It's a good point. I'm starting to think that VYs agent steered him away from here because of the coach/FO "turbulence" that could leave him on the outs next year with nothing to show for it..
We have lots of young talent to attract a FA qb, but the likely QB controversy (with Henne) along with the potential coaching change are pretty big turn-offs. You can bet that this would/will be the type of year where the QBs get "yo-yo'd" at the slightest sign of trouble just bc of the coaches' desperation (not to mention that it wouldn't be the first time for Sparano).

If he see substantial playing time this year, he will help us achieve a similar result.

I agree, what they did was sit on their hands, wait until ever viable replacement for Henne had moved elsewhere, down to Bruce Gradkowski, and signed a marginal #2 type of Qb who is simply not a credible threat to Henne's starting job.

Henne fanboys got their wish, those who said Orton was to expensive got their wish, we are on the brink of true crappiness if Henne does not develop and DTrain is not a feature back.

Van i agree with you on Orton. I just don't see him as the answer that would ever be good enough to take down teams like the (revamped) Pats and Jets (with Nnamdi possibly opposite Revis..yikes).

Seriously? Anyone who thinks this coaching/front office staff would have ever attempted to bring Young in are just purely not thinking. Young is talented for sure....but his head is just plain empty. Titans had to severely dumb down their offense for him and never let him throw much (check those 200+ yard throwing games...not many eh?). Not to mention the guy is a cancer to coaching staffs. Fisher could handle Haynesworth and every other troubled jackass the Titans had....but Young was the guy who pushed him over the edge. Think about that. Pacman never did it, Haynesworth never did it, his talented but mouthy RB never did it.

Edit: By the way, can this team now focus on our Guards. Sure we brought in Pouncey as one upgrade to the middle, but we still have 2 Guards that were involved. Unless we think Incognito is going to up his game and Jerry blossoms a lot from year 1 to 2.

The win vs Giants eliminated them from the playoffs.

This regime has never brought 5 QBs to camp. I'm not sure any team ever has. If they grab Orton now and have Orton, Henne and Moore that's trhee journeymen at QB and most teams wouldn't do that. You're acting like this should be obvious that the QBs will be Orton, Henne and Moore but the fact of the matter is most teams like to have a developmental QB on roster and that INCLUDES the Dolphins.

We're not trading for Kyle Orton. Period.

Either the Broncos were asking too much, or Orton's contract demands were too high, but we've moved on.

It's kinda sad to see so called Dolphin fans ready to give up on the season hours before FA even begins. Ignorance is supposed to be bliss, not misery.

Faulty thinking on that one CK, if anything Devlin can go to the PS and Brandstater can find his true calling, two UDFA type Qb's are no bar to anything happening.

IIRC in 08 we had Henne, McCown, Beck and Penny all in camp until the later stages.

Well we could still end up with Orton later on ala Pennington. We had Henne and a crap veteran when we had Pennington drop in our laps. Maybe we get lucky a 2nd time? Once he's cut...I don't see Orton being able to hold out for the contract he is now. I'm not for spending picks on a stop gap....but getting Orton for free would be a win in my books as long as it's a short term deal and this team pulls their head outta their *** and grabs a QB in the first next season.

I guess there's still a part of me that isn't cool with Suck for Luck. I want them to have grabbed SOMEONE to legitimately compete with and/or beat Henne. Matt Moore doesn't qualify. Kyle Orton does. Kyle Orton is the LAST one available who qualifies. If the Dolphins go to the season with Henne, Moore and Devlin, that will be a joke. I guess I'm not 100% cool with the team I grew up loving, being a total joke. There would still be hope for me if Kyle Orton were the QB.

Wouldn't you at least like to see a training camp practice, a preseason game, maybe a even a regular season game or two before you make such a far reaching assessment? Wouldn't you like to let FA BEGIN before you start calling the offseason a failure?

    You guys are killing me.

-I like Sparano, would like to see him keep/earn/deserve the job next year. I'm tired if blowing up the roster every 2-3 years. I see no problem with 10 wins saving his job and 9 wins getting him fired.
-I like Henne, but want to see competition. So does Sparano, Ireland, and Ross. Henne knows he has to prove himself in his 3rd year as a starter.
-It would have been pointless for this regime to draft a QB unless they had the means to get a sure thing that even the next HC wouldn't cut or trade away by 2013. Glad they didn't waste the pick.
-Henne is a bottom 3rd QB right now, and the only veterans available are bottom 3rd QBs.
-At best Orton is the 2nd coming of Rich Gannon.
At worst the Fins pay him 7M/yr on a new 3 year deal and he beats out Henne. Fins go 7-9. Everyone is fired and they are still on the outside looking in for the Tier 1 QBs next draft.
Most likely he'd probably only be the stop gap that buys Sparano just one more year, while we never find out what Henne could have been in his prime.

We were 7-9 with Henne last year. Think were in reality to good to "suck for Luck". Suck enough to be in range to trade up for the guys behind Luck....maybe.

Right now I hope they shift gears and use that cap room to pick up one of the free agent guards. Give Thomas/Bush/Grigsby/Hilliard and Henne every chance they can behind the OL.

Matt Moore does provide competition or Henne, and that's the saddest part of all.

Maybe they plan on running the Wildcat full-time with Thomas at QB???

Don't be surprised if Moore beats out Henne. I've seen a lot of Carolina games the past couple seasons and when Moore comes in to start, his numbers are much better than they are in relief. His career numbers are better than Kolb's with less of a supporting cast and a terrible offensive scheme. He's better than TJax.

I'm pretty happy with this signing and I think many people will be surprised.

He is also extremely accurate, got a quick release and a nice over the top delivery, and honestly from a skill set perspective, I don't see much difference between Devlin and Andy Dalton.

I think it's kinda sad to see such a blatantly insulting blanket statement anywhere on this site. And I think it's even sadder that it causes following users to PUMP THEIR FIST!

What if the Dolphins go 10-6, Henne ends up with a QB rating in the mid 80s range, but the team just barely misses the playoffs. Does Tony deserve to be fired then? IMO, no he wouldn't. Would Ross do it anyway? I'd guess odds about 50/50.

except that Matt Moore is not very good at playing Quarterback.

now...a 5 million dollar equipment manager? maybe he is pretty good at that.

I didn't consider it blatantly insulting. I'm insulted that you took it upon yourself to be the Insult Sheriff and decide what the rest of the forum should be insulted by. LOL. Also, if that is the worst use of a fist pump you have ever seen, then you ain't been paying attention. I agree with GMJ. Hell, I may even steal that line and make it a GMJ quote for my signature block.:tongue2:

If the team is competitive, Henne improves, and nothing else falls apart, Sparano should keep his job. But Ross wants sexy. So long as Sparano is the coach Ross will likely have a wandering eye. 50/50 sounds right.

    Just curious people..

I was just sitting here my heart in my stomach and wondering what it would take for some of you in here to actually recognize catastrophic blunders and if you did recognize it would you acknowledge it.

I'm not trying to be critical or down grading, just wondering what it would take

How many years do you have to see ?

    Is there anything ?
    bringing back Wannstetd
Another 3rd string QB to compete with Henne
    A plane crash.............?????

Think so? I was tempted to go w/ "FA hasn't even started yet and these so called Fin fans are ready to bend over and spread em for the rest of the NFL".

But I thought that would be over the top.

We won't know the results of any personnel decision until we see events play out. e.g. How can one say trading for Bush was a bad move until we see how he does? Not so hard to understand for me. No matter what moves we could realistically make, some fans will complain about them.
