@Fauxjohnmadden: BREAKING - Brandon Marshall begs wife to stab him again because that'd be less painful than playing with Chad Henne and Matt Moore.
We were 7-9 last year but finished 0-3 and were getting worse as a team through the end of the year. The team absolutely gave up in Week 17. That's the kind of thing that can carry over to the new season. New offensive system, not very much time to learn it, even Davone Bess says that puts them at a disadvantage. Worse running back components than a year ago, if that can be believed. A little better WR components but the same QB which means more defenses that face us will have taken pages from last year's tape on how to beat Chad Henne. And have we made any moves on defense that should improve it? Because right now they look the same, AT BEST. If Soliai and Wake come down off their career years, then they're probably worse. Team has no confidence in its quarterback. The main difference is just Dan Henning to Brian Daboll. And I don't have any illusions about that being the miracle everyone hopes it will be, especially with only one training camp to learn the offense. Meanwhile the other teams in our division actually look like they got better. When you sit idle in the NFL, you get left behind.
One thing to keep in mind is the CBA dictates that teams have to spend 99% of the cap this year. So there are going to be over-paying on short-term contracts. What Miami is doing makes sense. I haven't seen what the signing bonus is but my guess is Miami takes the cap hit this year (which they have to spend the money) and Moore will have a low cap number next year giving Miami flexibility. Looks like wise decision making to me.
You sound as if this is something new. If I'm not mistaken were looking at this crap for years my friend.... PS your avatar says it all for the why I feel.
So there's no bad decisions, just unforseeable consequences. Must be an interesting world view and I mean that in a completely serious way.
What makes you guys think that Henne will mysteriously stop panicking late in games, look completely befuddled half the time, and become a winning QB? He ran the same team Pennington did , and was outperformed by a QB with a broken arm. So, what is this great arm of his going to do? With Pennington we were a playoff team , with Henne we sucked, call me crazy but is the evidence not strong that Henne is no the answer? There's no way in hell I'm going to pay out money to watch them this year. I always go to 2-3 games a year but last year wa the most boring and disgusting football I've ever seen the Dolphins play. I even stopped throwing things around the house, I just turned it off. Why even get mad, if the Dolphins don't care about the product they put on the field why should I? Henne might actually improve or make a turn around but to go into a season with no competition and basically rewarding Henne with the starting job for failing miserably is complete bull****. The fans will speak with their wallets. First Sparano gets a raise (for losing every damn home game) then we keep the QB!?!? FU Ross!
I don't see why people shouldn't be allowed to be negative if they want to. When your franchise has no clear franchise QB since 1999 and hasn't won a playoff game in 11 years, I think the fans earn their right to frustration, even before training camp. Does anyone honestly believe Henne and Moore can compete with the likes of Brady and against defenses with Revis, Asomugha, etc.? Now we all HOPE Henne has some magical improvement and can do that, but Henne history since college (Michigan losing their biggest game against Ohio State all 4 years, choking in the stretch in 2009 and 2010 with playoff hopes alive) and Dolphin history suggests otherwise. I'm not going to keep my hopes abnormally high, because it will most likely end in disappointment. Of course there's a chance the Dolphins will make the playoffs, since everyone is 0-0, but it's unlikely. I'll believe it when I see it.
Honestly, I'm just excited for Football. It's hard for me to talk negatively about anything until I see the results. I don't think the deals that have been struck so far have made our team better, nor do I think they will sink our season. I'll let the season un-fold before I make those decisions. I'll either be furious and want to see a new regime or I will be in bliss looking forward to the playoffs. I get that everyone wanted to see a new QB here this year and after watching Henne last year, I was hoping for some competition as well. What if we are all pleasantly surprised though. What if: Henne puts some pieces together and actually plays better/smarter football in his 3rd yr? Daboll is actually a very good play caller (not out of the realm considering the lack of talent in Cleveland last year) Gates ends up being the deep threat we have been looking for forever The combination of Bush and Thomas make the Dophins back-field lethal Our defense converts on 50% of all intereception opportunities (imagine if they did that last year what this defense would look like) Cam Wake surpasses his sack total of last year. The offensive line actually gels with the addition of a viable center (Pouncey). I know it's tough with FA being somewhat lame for the Phins this yr, but we do have some things to latch on to that give this team hope. That's where my head is at. I'm not ready to call this team a playoff contender, but I'm also not ready to call them sunk.
Not necessarily a world view, just talking about team sports in general. In the world view of things there are a lot of foreseeable consequences.
I just hope that our new QB coach, (last years WR coach) teaches these guys to throw the ball instead of catch the ball.
Penny had a running game, Henne has not. Penny was a very good QB, despite his broken wing. We got to the playoffs thru trickery (WC) that year and scheduling quirks, not great QB play. Penny had the experience to run the offense and check off probably more than Henning would like to believe. Henne was instructed NOT to check off. The offensive play calling was screwy at best, there wasn't anything that resembled a running game, no speed at the WR position and a journeyman TE (at best). He also had an egg-shell running and blocking FB that somehow looked great the previous year... Completely different circumstances...
Do we know for sure how Henne will do this year? No one does for sure. So why worry about it before the fact? Do we know how well Bush will do for us? Do we know yet if Thomas can be a solid workhorse NFL runner? Do we know which teams will get hit the hardest by injuries to key personnel? No, no, and no. So why dwell on a gloom and doom outcome so early in the process? Also, we still have a lot of free agency to go through. I doubt we are done signing players.
And how does team sports differ from the world view? With the same logic, one could argue that it's completely pointless to go voting as you can't know the results of a proposed policy unless you've seen them play out. I mean, if I can't even judge my favorite sports team on the signing of Reggie Bush, how on earth can I judge the economic policies of a politcal party?
What if pigs flew, or hell froze over, or whatever other unlikely scenario your mind can conjure up? What does it feel like when you lose and you haven't even played your first game? I'll still watch, I'm a glutton for punishment, but I'm bracing for the worst so if we win any games it will be a "pleasant" surprise. I really had hope this year that the Dolphin FO realizes that they are about to lose the SO Florida market to the Heat and would make something happen this year to make them relevant again. I see it will take more pain and disappointment and empty stadiums to bring heads out of asses. I'm still in shock that this was their answer. ( Matt Moore!!!) Well, at least my year will be longer as I won't be longing for the year to begin, so I guess I'll live longer?
Matt Moore is the brides maid, but not the bride. The hunt for our star QB will continue right in through next years draft. The 2012 draft is QB heaven and the FO knows it. With Pennington becoming annually broken, and Thigpen now gone, signing Moore was a move they needed to do, but probably didn't really want to do. I don't mean to be a 'buzz kill' here but our expectations of this season needs to be realistic. With replacing the offensive coordinator, QB coach, both RB's, and two QB's we may need to curb our enthusiasm a bit. It takes a long time to build the dynasty variety offense that we older guys have grown accustomed to expecting. These are solid moves for a team totally re-building their offense but lets be realistic with our expectations. Don't expect to shine the chrome before the car is running. We have a looooong road ahead of us.
Yeah a rookie that's not even taken a practice snap less than 2 weeks away from his 1st game, he surely is going to be the difference.
I can't believe the townspeople are about to revolt because we didn't elect Kyle freaking Orton mayor. Have a beer...its Friday. Sent from my DROIDX using Tapatalk
Its impossible for those guys to take off the aqua & orange colored glasses. They will never see anything but perfection from the Dolphins in their "la-di-da goody goody in Dolphinland" world.
I'm not a huge fan of Orton, but you honestly believe Henne is better than him today? Not a year from now. Today?
I've come to the conclusion that you hate Henne so much, that bringing in another QB, who isn't head and shoulders above Henne -who will be going into his 7th season, while Henne is entering his third (as a starter), is blinding you to the fact that we won't be much, if at all, better with Orton. Can you honestly tell yourself that Orton is a franchise guy? A guy who can seriously get us much closer than Henne? I can't be convinced of that. Why not let it be Henne, who may well have a break out season. And if he doesn't, then great, we can put ourselves in the Luck sweepstakes. It took Brees several years to break out. It takes MOST QBs several years to break out. To trade picks and players away for a guy who isn't exactly going to strike fear in the hearts of the Pats, Jets, nor most (if any) of our opponents is folly. Watch out folks Orton and the Dolphins are coming your way! Yeah, that's intimidating. Stick with Henne. I think he's going to have a very good season.
Henne has shown a spark at times and others he has fallen apart. I still remember the Jets game in '09 where he had a terrific game and led the dolphins to a victory. That game was Henne's victory between the Ginn TD, Fasano TD, and keeping it alive on the last drive. I am willing to give Henne a chance to bring that QB back out and prove himself.
I'm just glad that we didn't break the bank for an average qb like Orton our god forbid what Ariz did with Kolb. There really was nothing available this offseason. We get to see what Henne has this year, and either he pans out with a now OC or we move on next year and draft a guy in the 1st out get a free agent.
Look on the bright side. Either Henne somehow improves to where he doesn't choke with the playoffs on the line and takes us to 10 wins...or he does and the Dolphins win 6 or 7 games and hopefully get a good position to draft a QB in the first round for the first time since Marino. Not sure they'd get Luck, but they could maybe trade up. Too soon to talk about that, but it's what the future holds if Henne stays the same. Either way we can have some optimism in 2012 with an improved Henne and overall team, or a good draft pick in a solid QB class. But I guess there's also the scenario where Henne blows it again, and Ireland stays and actually trades back in the draft and they don't pick a QB in the 1st round...
I posted that Drew Rosenhaus said this very same thing, and now I am condsidered a hater. Watch out, or you will be the next target. This afternoon Ireland has a chance to redeem himself. One last chance at 6pm. Lets see what he does and if we still are stuck in neutral, instead of being agressive, then even you "goody goody in Dolphinland" homers will have to admit that this FO failed in this most important FA season. Reggie Bush is not the answer to our offensive woes.
Amazing....2 or 3 weeks ago I was murdered on here for posting that Drew Rosenhaus had said this & he predicted it, but now people are seeing the truth, FINALLY.
Wow Pads, that sounds a lot like what I would have said......People around here finally seeing the light.
