Hmm, our defense was probably better with him in the lineup then without him. He makes sense for a team like Buffalo.
I bet a dollar he's the defensive player we were dangling to Cincy in the proposed Carson Palmer trade. Anyway, am I the only one who wants Brandon Siler on this team? … Am I the only one who knows who he is?
No doubt. Ireland is killing me with his bone-headed moves. I am trying to stay positive, but he is making it difficult. Steve
I'm not ready to pronounce lunacy onto this move until I know who he's being replaced with. If it's Kevin Burnett, I don't know that I'll be very happy.
BTW, didn't Moore get a 2.5 million dollar deal, about what Crowder was going to make this season? Are they pinching pennies that tightly?
It's not like he's a quality starter or anything like that, no sir. He totally wouldn't be a better option than Burnett, absolutely not. Nope. No way. This team isn't winning the Super Bowl this year. IMO, you take the guy whose best years are in front of him. That is Siler, easily. I wouldn't go crazy if they didn't sign him either, but I sure would be frustrated if we were counting on Tim Dobbins to start.
I mentioned I wanted UFA LB Stephen Tulloch in another thread. He had 160 tackles last year. Crowder had 39. Not sure if he wants to stay with the Titans though, if not, maybe we can snag him. Steve
If it's Kevin Burnett, I'm going to be a very happy camper. I just find it odd that there have been no reports about any immanent LB signing and we're parting ways with Crowder already.
My initial impression is if they needed money, they could have done something that makes sense, like giving Paul Soliai a contract extension, but are instead choosing to do something that doesn't make sense...cutting the smartest player on the defense. Just my initial impression. They could sign Nick Barnett and then I'd probably be happy. Kevin Burnett, no so much. I know Takeo Spikes is already gone to San Diego. If the plan is for Dobbins and Edds to take over...#suckforluck
If Dobbins and Edds are going to be the part-timers, this teams thumper is going to suck. Dobbins can't figure out angles while Edds, as talented of a cover player he is, is an absolute pansy going downhill.
man i hope this is not because we needed $$$ because of the moore signing....there must be something....PLEASE
The Soliai thing just boggles the mind. Get him signed! Not only is he the type of young, ascending guy you should keep, his cap number is clogging up the system. Don't understand releasing Crowder unless they have a clear upgrade in mind. If they are planning on an Edds/Dobbins combo, I just don't know what to say to that. It's insanity
Dobbins is even worse in coverage then Crowder, and with Channing there could be a health element as well. Not a fan of this move as his "replacement" Edds or Dobbins, do not figure to be any better.
You really like Burnett that much? Crowder knows the defense and is a smart, communicative guy. He was one of the reasons the D was so good last year. Burnett doesn't know the defense and would have a shortened training camp to learn it. There have been reports of inquiries made about Manny Lawson though. Maybe this is about Koa Misi shifting over after all, stupid as I think that is.
Why does Edds name keep coming up? I thought he was more a nickle/LB tweener coming out of the draft. I didn't think his skill set or body was meant to play MLB in a 3-4. Did he 'roid up in the offseason or something?
I'm actually with them on the Soliai issue. I wouldn't extend the guy either unless I'm damn sure that last year wasn't a contract year thing and he has finally come around to play football professionally.
i dont think its that easy to work out a deal with soliai, maybe they work on it for some days but just out of the blue, this will take some time
I think Burnett's solid in terms of run stuffing and has proven that he can rather consistently create big plays when allowed to take enough snaps. Crowder might be the smarter, more vocal leader type of player, but with Dansby on board, I'm not sure we really need two of them. I'd rather take 4-5 additional sacks, to be honest.
I'd like such a move depending on who replaced him at the Sam, I've made no bones about thinking Matt Roth would be a good refit back in Miami and it would up the athleticism on the Lb corps tremendously imo.
I think you'd better get ready for it. They HAVE made inquiries to Manny Lawson, and they just saved a lot of money by not trading for Kyle Orton. We all know that it's tough for Lawson and Misi to co-exist given the same skill sets, so this could definitely be clearing the way for it. I'm with you, stupid move, but they might do it. One of the things that has been missing so far in their free agency has been trying to snag a pass rusher. They seemed really intent on it before but Ray Edwards went off to Atlanta, Antwan Barnes re-signed in San Diego for like 2 years, $3.5 million or something like that (ridiculous, we should have bid on him). Mathias Kiwanuka re-upped in New York. Unless they're waiting on the situation with Osi Umenyiora to come to a head, then Manny Lawson is the only guy left that they had interest in as an OLB.
790 played sound of Crowder AFTER practice today... he said among other things..."One day, I will probably be cut as well." almost exactly 2 hours later...he was cut.
If we are looking at under sized MLBs, I would much rather have Stephen Tolloch. He would actually fit the thumper role. Cooper is average at best.
Hard to believe that just a few short days ago I was actually excited, today they are scaring the hell out of me... Steve
Makes sense for both sides, would kind of suck seeing him in buffalo but he won't have that many options.
