the truth is kolb money back and forth the deal kolb signed is not that big for a starting QB in this league, its just the pressure of would orton really outplay henne in camp, when he is late and henne had all offseason to practice with the guys
look at this guys : Jeff Darlington But a source just told me Matt Moore's original top destination, b/c of relationship with John Fox, was Denver. JeffDarlington Jeff Darlington Again, I don't want to get too deep into conspiracy theories. But my sources in organization are being very quiet about it. Just...weird.
this orton thing won´t stop BenVolinPBP Benjamin Volin RT @MichelleBeisner: Just spoke with a reliable source in Denver.....There was NEVER an official offer made by the Dolphins for Orton!!
Just like we never actually put together a contract offer out there for Harbaugh. Seems Ross learned how to appease fans by faking and Sparano learned at his feet.
So we want Orton but we balked at paying him like a starting NFL Qb? I can't really blame Orton, I wouldn't give up millions of dollars for a training camp competition either. He's has much more success in the NFL than Henne or Tebow, I wouldn't take a paycut if I was Orton either. Orton has had more success than Kolb too and Kolb just got 20mill guaranteed money from the insane Cards, that probably did us in for this deal.
The elite LG, IMO, can only be Justin Blalock. I'd be happy to see us sign him and move Richie to his more natural RG spot.
Just because the Cardinals overpaid for Kolb, does not mean the Fins should overpay for Orton. When it was a 4th or 5th ok, but a second AND Kolb money **** that! I like Orton and all but he is not worth it.
Sounds about right to me at least, would love to have Orton in Miami but if he wants 10 million per, he just is not quite worth that number. That would be what..500k per Td? That is Elite Qb money imho.
A lot of people don't think the 2nd rounder was in play. There is, however, coming from a Miami Herald sports writer, information that the deal is not dead and talks are ongoing.
I wanted him to be a dolphin so bad.....pay the man. Chad you got this year to prove yourself please get us to the playoffs
The figure floating around up here was a 4 year deal for $6M per. That was after the Kolb deal went down. Apparently it was all but done until the Kolb deal went down and then Orton got jealous and hiked his demands. I don't know what the pre-Kolb contract figures were.
He still may. Perhaps the Moore guy was drafted to be #2 to Orton once Henne's butt is kicked out of Miami.
I can't disagree. The Kolb deal was ridiculous. However, a 4th or a 5th isn't ok with a 4th round veteran who is a solid pocket QB. That's a slap in the face.
Only read the first couple of posts in this thread, so if there's something else posted prior to my posting, keep that in mind so with that being said... I'm GLAD this deal is dead and I hope everyone will look at this from this particular point of view. Remember all of the posts...all of the comments by Dolphins players during the lockout PRAISING Chad Henne and his leadership during player led workouts? Remember all of the comments from the players at the new found level of respect they had for him? Now, can you just imagine how this team would have reacted had this trade gone through? Kyle Orton pops into the Dolphins locker room, presumably traded to come in as the Dolphins starting quarterback...after the summer in which Henne stood up and beame their leader...the man the team looked to...the man who was taking charge and leading the team...only to put into a position of, "hey, thanks for what you did this past summer, but take a seat, we got a new stud in town"? The team's moral would have been CRUSHED!!!!! There would have been internal bickering within the locker room and a team divided has ZERO chance of succeeding on the field. I told everyone that the lockout could indeed be a blessing in disguise...for the team to come together and become a strong cohesive unit. Had this trade happened, all of that work the players did on their own would have been destroyed.
I don't think any of this would be an issue at all if Orton looked better in camp. Players follow the guys they think they can win games with. Organizing workouts is awesome but if Orton outperformed Henne in practice and camp the team would gravitate towards him and there wouldn't be any issues with morale. You run into morale issues when players don't perform on the field and the front office sticks with them over a player the team sees performing better.
Which, incidentally, is why Denver wants to trade Orton in the first place. They know he'll beat Tim Tebow. They know that John Fox will have no choice but to name him the opening day starter or risk losing the locker room before he's even had a chance to win it. Their problem, ironically, is that they can't play the promising rookie because the incumbent starter is too darn good. If Miami still wants a piece of Orton (and there's plenty reports saying they do), then it needs to be done quickly. As soon as Orton has established himself as the best QB on their roster in camp, Denver will have a hard time dealing him away.
I never understood the Tebow pick, Tebow needs like 3 years to be as good as Orton is now. Thats not saying Orton is great but why draft a guy that has major throwing issues and needs to work for years just to be as good as a guy you already have? Not sure what Denver is doing.
Well, it was Josh McDaniels' idea and the guy managed to make more downright awful decisions in two seasons than most bad GMs manage over a full career. I still think that spending a 1st and 2nd round selection on Alphonso Smith only to trade him away for Dan Gronkowski a year later ranks as the most boneheaded move I've ever witnessed. In the case of Tebow, McDaniels' has left Fox and Elway between a rock and a hard place. They know that Kyle Orton is a better quarterback right now and that Tebow is raw. But their fanbase doesn't just want to see Tebow play - they crave it. And while Orton's good, he's not quite good enough to make that craving go away. The same way we want the next Marino, they want the next Elway, and since Orton's not it, expectations in the rookie skyrocket. There's a lesson to be learned here: If you do have a decent starter, don't draft a 1st round QB.
Well if you start letting the fans dictate who you start you're a goner. I'm kind of surprised that Elway would actually buy into Tebow as a starter. I don't think Denver has attendance issues so I don't know why they would feel the pressure and if they did they should have traded Tebow in the offseason.
It is the hardest position to accurately evaluate IMO. For scouts or fans. Especially projecting them from college to the pros.
Denver fans have gotten together on the Broncos Forums and have some offerings for an Orton trade. Take a look.
Damn I thouht Dolphin fans were down on their QBs. Still think it happens soon. BTW, somebody better fix that Snoopy Sno Cone Macine, those boys sound hungry.
1 bucket of KFC for all the Denver fans to split? I'd at least ask for baked beans & slaw too. and a biscuit.
There's another thread of people threatening to not watch the team if Orton starts. This is really getting ugly.
