It's amazing that we have to find out that our franchise Nose Tackle is in shape or not after an unmonitored offseason through someones amateur pictures rather than our crack local media.

Yes I hate to say he looks slim given his size, but he certainly looks slimmer than I recall.

No kidding. He looks to be in the best shape of his Dolphin career. Lets hope he can keep it that way. Frightening to think how good he can be if he gains a little more quickness. We sure need to hope that we have someone to groom behind him and relieve him of some game snaps. I guess that will come mostly from Starks sliding over, when Merling and Odrick rotate in.

He says he's weighing 342 and was working out in Utah with Ngata and a few other Polynesian players. It sounded like they were pushing each other pretty hard and he took the franchise tag to heart.

Judging by the photos' shallow depth of field, whoever took them isn't an amateur. Sorry but being in a similar field, that quote bothered me.

Didn't you hear? Everyone with a dSLR is a Pro now!

I do agree that these were taken by a pro though because the faces are properly exposed and the focus is spot on.
I do question why there's motion blur on the ball that Marshall is catching. With the amount of light out there,
you should be able to get 1/500th easily. That would be more than enough to freeze the motion and make the ball
nice and crisp. Maybe I over analyze photos too much?

Your right on...as well.....anyone wanna guess how much it costs for the lenses those photos were took with? Id die to get my hand on one of these....400mm f/2.8 IS Canon L series....oh....bout $8-9$ G's......bright sunlight is a ***** to take good pics in ...now throw in white helmets and jerseys......

Id love to have that job

I have a Canon 40D.....I reallly want to get the new 50D....but....cant afford it right now.

As well....the motion blur could have been done on purpose with a slower shutter speed..maybe as an artistic touch?

Actually...taking a look at it.....he probably had the AF set to Spot Metering and was centered right on Marshall....( I think I explained that right....right?)

    Here's my gear list:
Gripped Canon 7D usually rocking my Canon 24-70mm f2.8L
    Also have Canon 70-200mm f2.8L mk1 non-IS, Canon 50mm f1.4, Sigma 30mm f1.4,
    Canon 1.4x TC II, Canon 580exII Speedlight, PocketWizard MiniTT1, 2x PocketWizard FlexTT5,
2x Elinchrom Style 400 BX strobes, Paul C Buff Mini Vagabond, 2x Paul C Buff 64" PLMs,
other misc crap items (CPL filters, hoods, reflectors, cheap ebay triggers, lightstands, backgrounds, etc)

I've also got an old gripped Canon Digital Rebel XT (350D) laying around with the kit lens. I just sold my old
gripped 50D, because I've got a few future purchases planned.

Future purchases: Tokina 11-16mm 2.8, upgrade to Canon 70-200mm f2.8L mkII IS, whatever Canon's next full frame body is.

Luckily I've finally started to turn my hobby into a paying gig to help pay for itself. I started second shooting some weddings last month and I'm looking to start
second shooting with another wedding photographer next month to help fill in more gaps. Not sure I ever want to become a primary wedding photog as there's
just so much stress involved in that. I've been trying to work my way for some press passes to local sports events as I used to do a bunch of high school football
    games.

It'll never be my main income source as I can never match my programming salary as a photographer, but I'm happy if I can have it pay for the gear I keep buying. :D

Anyway, derailed this thread enough, feel free to PM if you want to continue talking about photog related stuff.

I wished they'd leave the EXIF data in the images, but I guess they want to save a few KB here and there. Looking at it closer a second time, it appears the ball is just soft focus because
of the shallow depth of field as previously seen. The ball just appears to be closer to Marshall than it is because of the compression from the zoom and wide open aperture. So in other words,
it's not motion blur at all.

There's no EXIF detail in the images, so we don't know. I will say buying a dSLR isn't going to automatically create good pictures. It
would also help to know what kind of pictures you'll be taking the majority of the time.

With that said, stay within your budget, but I would have to recommend Nikon at this point (yes I am a Canon shooter) because
their AF system is so fast and they give a lot of bang for the buck with their bodies. I would also suggest buying used as long as
you can find a decent priced Nikon D80 or similar body with less than 10k clicks on the shutter. I would then recommend buying a
Tamron 17-50 f2.8 as this is a very good all-purpose lens. You won't be able to get these photos as the lenses used for these
is about $8-10k because of their reach and aperture.

And if you don't have a CLUE about any of the terms I used above, I recommend just buying a nice P&S camera (Fuji F550exr)
and enjoying the simpleness of it all. Then if you really want to get into photography with a dSLR, take some classes to see if
you'll enjoy it. I see it too often that people buy dSLRs and stay with the easy (green) preset and keep asking why their pictures
suck. Most of the time it's not the camera, it's the person not having an artistic eye or not understanding what the settings really
    mean.

Didn't mean to go off subject so much there, but I just want to save you money in the end.

And if you want to learn by yourself without the classes, then check out these books.
    Understanding Exposure
    Understanding Shutter Speed
    And coming soon, Understanding Flash

Also fair warning, it can become a very expensive hobby very quickly.
