thats fair , no excuses, the players want to be led, hes got to figure that out, a week of practices we should have a pulse on whether the team bought in.

Hyde is going into practice now to post his thoughts on what he sees on twitter...Iam sure he is looking at this closely..

I think those players would have made the fans happier, but you have to consider the systems and the players. McNabb would be going to different system and would probably have struggled. Hasselbeck, whomI liked the most was horrible all season until that one good game in the playoffs. Young was a guy they studied a ton and at best he was a question mark. Delhomme, I would put behind even Moore. Really from that list I see names that the fans would know better, but not necessarily guys that would make the team better. Obviously it comes down to evaluation, but I don't see how any fair evaluation would consider these guys as head and shoulder better than Henne.

Everybody would, but the odds are really poor and no better than what you already have with Henne. It would be great to throw your whole paycheck into the lottery and score that fluke win, but it isn't a very smart strategy.

I hope that is how they see it as well , it is how I look at this situation. Orton was an option for me only at the right price , acquisition cost and salary wise.

If we couldn't get him at that "right" price then unless a viable option unexpectedly presents itself , we build the talent , get experience for the young talent and we make no excuses about making the addition of the right QB next year priority number one.

There are a couple QB's besides LUCK that can be the right one in next year's draft and if this team builds it's talent base , get's contribution from their young talent , plays hard , get's better coaching and improves on entertaining the fan base this regime has a chance to return en masse.

They could point to the positives and say what we need is a QB and we can get player in this draft and we will. Ross would then determine if he buys that or not and I feel he really is behind Ireland , and may also be good with the coaching if the above happens.

It is almost bargain shopping time , there will be real significant players available at bottom barrel prices in the next several days. How well the Dolphins manage this is paramount imo . If no QB is or was there , then we bite the bullet but be supremely assertive ,aggressive and smart in the next week or so .

I have been on the right QB stump , bellowing for long enough , however if we can't make a move now that really works , we wait , but we don't stop making this team better , and the next week will offer many many chances to do so . I want to see Miami be in the top half dozen teams taking advantage of this rare occurrence.

The starting point of this little discussion wasn't "better than Henne", however. It was serious competition. All of the guys I named might not have beaten out Chad Henne for the job, but they would have provided a significantly more serious competition than Matt Moore. Matt Moore loads the deck in Henne's favor but keeps the option of an Orton trade open, so I do see why did went that way. But when the Orton deal is finally dead, we can't say with a straight face that we got the best available quarterback do the job. We can only say we got the best available one that still let us try to pursue Kyle Orton.

I thing one thing being missed in all this is, and I have to say it again, this isn't JUST about Kyle Orton. That's what everyone wants to focus on but I don't think that's right.

This is about Kyle Orton, Donovan McNabb, Matt Hasselbeck, Kevin Kolb, Carson Palmer, Tarvaris Jackson, Marc Bulger, Blaine Gabbert, Christian Ponder, Jake Locker, Colin Kaepernick and Ryan Mallett.

This is about getting someone to legitimately compete with Chad Henne and/or take his place, which is something they didn't do, and despite conspiracy theories to the contrary, look like they won't do.

While I wanted competition, I wasn't willing to give up the future to get it. I see Henne as not good enough, but I also see every other option as not good enough as well. And that included the QBs in the draft at least factoring what it would have cost to move up and get the various QBs. So my primary concern was not giving up the future. It would have been nice to have competition as well, but adding another not good enough QB isn't worth that much to me.

I wanted Jackson of the FAs, and I would've liked Ponder or Gabbert had we traded up for them.

I could've lived with McNabb, Orton, Locker or Mallett.

I wanted no part of Kaepernick, and especially not Kolb.

    I kind of agree.....but....

I dont think they wanted to make a QB move that would be costly unless it was a huge upgrade over Henne. And frankly.....while I know your opinion on him, none of the available QB's clearly respresented that. We would have taken Christian Ponder at 15 had Minnesota jumped the gun...and really...nobody saw that happening. Would you really have wanted Tavaris Jackson? Orton is looking for Kolb type money..otherwise he would rather just play it out in Denver and enter 2012 as a FA. You yourself hated Jake Locker.....and Im not going to go back to Ryan Mallet...I agree with you on Ryan Mallet.....that we didnt take him in round two could be a mistake.

Given what was available......really....I think we have done a good job at not panicking. We still dont know how the Orton scenario will play out....so....you cant declare that one way or the other yet.

The one QB I would have loved to have seen here was Matt Hasselbeck....but he ran the West Coast Offense..and never really seemed to be in the discussion as far as Miami is concerned.

I cant see Chad Henne being worse then he was last season....and clearly they have put better weapons around him. Henning and the system last season was horrible....HORRIBLE. There is every reason to believe Henne will play better then last season. Will he play good enough to be our future franchise QB? I think so....but I also can recognize that a great many people who know more about football then I do....do not. But he has very good work habits....he studies very hard...he doesnt create issues in the locker room. At worst....I think he can hold down the job and be a good role model for a QB we will likely draft next season. I did not want to part with anything higher then a 4th round pick to get any of the available QB's.....because the QB's available in the draft if we have a bad season...have a much better chance at being a franchise QB then anything available to us this season.....

Well, I'd say Moore has far more of a football IQ then Henne, he said SF and SD were interested in signing him.*

*He choose Miami because he knows Henne is such a low level Qb he has an honest shot at replacing him either prior to the season, or during the season, in SF or SD he is 2nd or 3rd string.

Everyone has their QBs that they approve of and the ones they don't. Does it pain me to list Kevin Kolb right next to Kyle Orton and Vince Young? Sure. The point is they didn't get anyone. Matt Moore is a backup, everyone knows it. The Dolphins know it, they gave him a backup's contract.

So if they don't pull a Kyle Orton rabbit out of their hat after all, they deserve a lot of criticism.

If you look at the teams most pick to be in the Andrew Luck derby....

Washington and Seattle are the most likely to take Luck. Seattle may also be there....and Matt Barkley could be their choice. Which puts us easily within reach of Landry Jones.

Either of those three seem to be a much better option if Henne doesnt pan out........then anything we could have done this season.

But...how? Logically....how do they deserve criticism...because there was not one option out there that they clearly whiffed on.

You don't have to be a QB guru to realize that Matt Moore is poor competition for Chad Henne. Bottom line is after Ireland, Fist pumper, and company were spared early this year they insisted they were going to bring in serious competition for the QB position. They lied.

Wow....Upper tier QB, yet two teams have/want to get rid of him ?? I don't think 20/12 3500 yrds gets us to the playoffs with NE and the jests here...Of course, I wouldn't have made the Kolb deal either...

And this is how the 3 year plan turns into a 4 year plan, and then turns into a 5 year plan, and so on and so forth.

always been a 4 year plan with folks who understand how bad that 1 and 15 team was..You wanted to be in the playoffs 3 years after that 1 and 15 season?...Thats not rational, and there isn't much evidence in history that could back such lofty statements.

So you're saying a four year plan here? That means you expect playoffs this season at a minimum right? If that doesn't happen after this season will you finally acknowledge that the FO and Tony Sparano are not doing a good job?

Once the season is done I will evaluate the team and its performance and all variables accordingly, for example, if we happen to win 9 or 10 games, but yet we miss the playoffs with that amount of wins, does that mean I should just give it all up? no it doesn't...I expect this team to compete for playoff position this year.

So to answer your question, is it playoff spot or bust, no it isn't, to me that's a shallow way to analyze this game and a teams progression.

While i don't subscribe to the Orton is great mentality ... i do believe that bringing him in would solidify at 10+ win season barring a siginificant team injury ....

what i would not do though, is pay him 10MIL per season for those 10 wins ... that amount isn't worth the extra 2-3 wins over Henne (worst case). Henne has been blasted for last year -- and as Todd has reiterated on mulitple occassions ... it wasn't all him. I am confident we will see a different outcome at the end of this season than last with Henne at the wheel -- 1) because of last year, 2) different OC, 3) many more playmaking options ... all point to a better end result; even IF Henne is as moderately talented as many believe on this board.

i do agree that we do need an experienced back-up, and not sure that Moore is that guy .... equally, not sure there are significantly better options left.

i would have rather taken a flier on Young at 5.5MIL

Even when they've been 7-9 they've been mathematically alive for the playoffs well into December. Is that your definition of 'competing for a playoff spot'? The same logic was used to keep Dave Wannstedt around after the 2003 season. I mean he didn't make the playoffs but he won ten games. He was competing. We know how that turned out.

And what are you saying about 'giving it all up?' Now you sound like you're just trying to be dramatic. I didn't realize Tony Sparano not being a good coach would be such a traumatic experience for you.

Let's hope they actually draft a QB in the 1st round though, and possibly be aggressive to move up if Henne has another mediocre season. We've wanted that since the 90s.

Miami media & their football knowledge/ scares me..... It's very weak. Omar Hyde? Give CK the job....Seriously ! 10x's more talent!

Competition? Find a new starter or let Henne be the guy. Do you want a controversy? That will divide the locker room. This year, not good.

Henne's biggest issues are he's lacking confidence from the coaches, ( i seriously doubt TS ability to develop a QB) cause the biggest problem was play calling. ( and whos the QB coach)

Second, they have him playing scared. I think they don't play to his stregths. You want to get serious, give your QB some talent, ( Bush ), shut up Marshall ( head case in the locker room), and get a new offensive co....oh, done.

I guess I'll stand alone on this topic, but then again.... Im not interested in following the popular opinion.

My even bigger issue.... Who is building the coaching staff on the offensive side of the ball?

Well TBh with you I believe Henne is miscast, what he should be looked at is as a good Qb in a running offense, who can convert 3rd downs and deals with blitzes well, I think his arm strength causes people to think he is something that he is not.

Basically, he does not have the cockiness to be the qb who can throw the ball deep.

I've wondered too, why the big disparity between the defensive staff and the offensive? It's like our defensive staff is Pro Bowl quality and our offensive staff are Practice Squad types.

No holding back, we viewed Miami's O as one and done. Unload 1st Qtr and unable to adjust. Offensive IQ was below average. Will that change..... With the new OC? It will...if TS let's his OC coach and not force him to play not to lose... Prevent O.

I can agree with that actually....Henne does have the demeanor of a game manager.......not the attitude of a gunslinger....problem is...he doesnt break the game down mentally to be an effective game manager.....his arm buys him latitude, yet he wont use it.

This is the mentality Henne needs to have...seriously.......this is the best breakdown of a gunslinger attitude I have seen....

Ah, but if it works and they just grind opponents down it will then be 'pounding, powerful, running game"

IDK tbh, I've watched every snap Henne has taken as a pro, and it strikes me with a running game he is just a different Qb, suspect once the league figured him out, Henning had no plan B, also think the routes the Wr's ran, and the lack of effective outlet options, pretty much turned the offense into a dink dunk take no chances affair.
