Plexico Buress to sign with Jets

Well, could go either way for them, one less Wr on the market but Edwards, Jones and 1 other premium type Wr is still on the board

My issue is IF we were infact talking to Edwards why didnt we make a call to Burress, who is a better all around WR and frankly no more of a headache then Edwards wouldve been. This offseason continues to baffle me. Trade for Bush but dont sign Sproles, Matt friggin Moore? Go sign another interior OL then we can all hope Henne makes strides, if not? Hello .500

They swapped their vertical threat for a possession WR. It's going to change their offense and make it less vertical. Won't have to defend as much of the field anymore. But Plax is a beast near the endzone...

I could list off a couple reasons:

    - Edwards is a vertical WR. We piss possession WRs already...

    - Edwards has played football the last couple years. Plax has been locked up...

Plax was. Right now, he's a guy who's been in prison for two years. Like Vick when he came out, Plax will have lost a little something on the inside.

Plaxico doesn't scare me. A 34 year old WR who just got out of jail two months ago doesn't scare me.

Any time a division rival signs a 33 year old wide receiver who hasn't stepped on a football field in over 2 years because he was incarcerated for shooting himself in the leg, I'm a little ... indifferent.

Id take Edwards over Plex, but again, Plex is not going to give the coaches any headaches.

Edwards is ridiculous though, he acts like your typical Diva WR and produces only when he feels like it, and if you check the stats he doesnt feel like it a whole lot. The Jets obviously perfer Burress over Braylon and sadly they are prolly right.

Burress is a giant question mark. The jets had to make a splash because they look very stupid after not getting asomugha. This could end up being a good move but Burress, IMO, is only good for jump balls. He never really did any of the other stuff all that well. He became a stud on the giants because thats all Eli would throw, but im not convinced that hes actually a stud.

i'm sure it was more a $$$$ oriented decision for them .... can't imagine that PLAX got that big a payday ..... Edwards would want some mad $$$, which is why even IF we were to sign him, it won't be right away.

i'm indifferent about Edwards .... another classic uber talented dude, who just doesn't play 'all in'. Marshall may have alligator arms at times, but you can see his effort and passion on the field. I think Edwards is better than Wiliams .... so at least happy we didn't go that route. i also don't associate speed and deep threat with Edwards like a lot of others do. I see more Irvin in the way he plays - not Holmes.

Sure hope Gates makes some strides this year quickly .... or maybe the head turner thus far Carter can step up from his previous trials and stick. I'm also looking forward to seeing Foster and what he can do if healthy.

Our 4&5 WRs are going to be interesting this year .... Marshall, Bess and Gates should be locks ... Hartline might actually have to fight for a job, and then you have Moore, Wallace, Pruitt, Foster, Carter, and Livas. Livas is a return specialist - so that is probably his only hope of sticking. Carter is turning heads, and Moore, Wallace and Pruitt have been to camp with this regime before.

The Jets and Patriots are being very aggressive in FA market, while the crickets in Miami is deafening.

Edwards was a different receiver with the Jets than he was with the Browns. There were little concerns about his on-field behavior in NY, and in fact he won over a lot of his teammates. He's also regarded as one of the best blocking receivers in the NFL, so I don't particularly buy into the "produces when he feels like it" comment. His stats weren't astronomical with the Jets because they had numerous options (Holmes, LT, Keller, Cotchery), a run-first team and a fairly inaccurate QB.

The only reason the Jets prefer a 34 year old receiver who has been out of the league for 2 years over Edwards is that they're up against the salary cap and are making Cromartie a priority. Burress is a much cheaper alternative, and they're rolling the dice that he can at least come somewhat close to what Braylon gave them.

And he didn't do anything his first year either. It's highly unlikely plaxicco will be able to do much this year. He may have a few flashes this year, but that will be it.

This is 100% on the money Braylon is a better wr option atm but his price is too high for the market. Also I don't think people understand that Braylon has never played with a good NFL QB. People are afraid to pay him because hes had issues in the past why risk long term money on him when you can get plex on the cheap who can have major upside.

He's a huge 6-5 and 230 with long arms. And he's a tough guy who will play thru pain and isn't the diva that Edwards is.

He might leave a little something in prison, but it's not as if he's stepping in at QB. He's stepping in at WR. It'll come back to him pretty quickly. Hell, he really didn't practice much during the 2007 season with that ankle injury -- just played on Sundays -- and had an excellent season.

They've already got a deep threat in Holmes and a seam-busting TE in Keller. This is a good fit.

This isn't 100% true he had a 93.7 QB rating with 1 throwing td and also ran for 2 tds with no turnovers he just wasn't used because he was slept on.

The Jets have lost more players to Free Agency than anyone, they resigned Holmes and added an aging question mark. Thats it.

Then the B and B combo aren't exactly crickets. If the 10 to 15 touches a game projection for Bush is correct, that could be very significant. And replacing the often hurt Crowder with a 3 down player is big.

Yeah, I'm starting to get pretty frustrated with our front office for not doing much of anything to upgrade this team - specifically on the offensive side of the ball. Now Heap is meeting with the Jets, and we (our front office), from all we can tell, are sitting around sucking their thumbs while watching everyone in our division take steps to put even more distance between us and them. (Well, except for Buffalo)

Are people upset we didn't go after this guy? There's a reason Jets only gavehim him a year contract... There not even sure. Just bc their free agents doesn't mean we need to go after them all. I rather have all our wr over plaxico... I won't be surprised if he shoots the jets in the foot.
