Rumor: Miami talking to Braylon Edwards

What can Braylon Edwards do that Brian Hartline can't?

I guess Todd, we really cannot take seriously those who put forth the idea that Hartline is as good or even better than Edwards. They must just like to argue and debate, for the sake of doing so, no matter how absurd and lacking in true merit their side of the argument is.

Penalty numbers are from PFF. Edwards led the league with 8, Hartline had 0.

Ironically, PFF's subjective rating of Edwards much, much worse than Hartline overall. This must be an egregious failure of their eyes to see reality.

No insinuations at all, I'm saying that Hartline does.

Thus far, there hasn't been much statistical evidence supporting Braylon being any better of a WR.

Yes, the fact that I don't assume the QB is capable of something he's never proven to be capable of makes me obtuse. What would make me obtuse would be devolving my argument to personal attacks.

I've been the only one thus far to actually support an argument with something other than "I can just tell with my eyes", "here is a highlight reel from college", or "if his size and visually appealing frame don't do it for you, you're just obtuse". But your point would make great fodder in the Stringer Bell sub-forum.

I just signed up to point out how dumb some of you are to even try to defend saying Brian Hartline is better or equal to Braylon Edwards in anyway. This statement is just laughable and utterly absurd.

Lets take a look at Brian Hartline's best season in the NFL.

Hope we do something soon. Zach Miller, Braylon, Shaun O'Hara, Ricky or Ronnie returning.

The other teams in the division have made some big moves with OchoCinco, Plaxico, Nick Barnett. So far we have a guy who may or may not be better than Crowder. They promised us changes and big moves.

Not sure I consider Bush/Thomas replacing Ronnie/Ricky as big yet, considering neither has a history of starting in the NFL. Even is Bush starts every game, Thomas is uncertain.

No offense, Stringer, but the debate was more about Edwards being a better playmaker instead of arbitrarily trying to prove who's the better receiver.

You're the only one? So you're dismissing the twenty 20+ yard TDs of Braylon's that I listed compared to the zero 20+ yard TDs of Hartline's? When speaking of "playmaking ability", how is what I said not considered "supporting an argument"?

What pro-Hartline support regarding big play ability have you provided to counter this? I provided the concrete stats to back everything up, but I don't need concrete stats to know that Braylon is a better leaper, more physical, more athletic, has better balance & body control with the ball in his hands, has better body control & tracking ability when the ball's in the the air.

You want to talk about routes? Sure, I'll give you that---- Hartline is a better & craftier route runner. That's great........ if we didn't already have Bess & Marshall.

Can Hartline dominate a DB or two when the ball is mid air? make the acrobatic catch? create a big play/chunk yardage by running over defenders? juke defenders for quality YAC without falling down half the time? No, but Braylon can.

When Hartline has the ball in his hands, does every fan get excited with the possibility of a big play/TD? Nope, but they do with Braylon.
When an offense needs a huge play or score, does Hartline fit the mold of the type of receiver who comes to mind? No, but Braylon does.

If the Pats are bringing pressure, is Hartline a guy you can throw jump balls to in single coverage? No, but Braylon is.
If Marshall's drawing extra coverage, is Hartline a guy capable of really exploiting single coverage opposite him for big plays? No, but Braylon is.

If Edwards were playing in place of Hartline:
    - Miami likely wins the Browns game. Haden INT is likely broken up, and the post route in the endzone is likely caught by Braylon.
    - Miami beats the Jets. His speed and length likely converts the first barely missed long pass that Hartline was just a hair too slow to reach. His 67 yard TD against us would also be non-existent.
    - it's likely the completion isn't coughed up vs the Steelers resulting in a Roethlisberger TD.
    - it's likely that Marshall's YAC wouldn't be the lowest on the team (despite being one of the league's best playmakers) with coverage now less draped all over him.
    - the incomplete fades to Hartline have a much better chance of resulting in 6.
    - the ground game might be a bit more effective with defenses having to respect the deep half of the field and Brandon's & Braylon's big play ability.
    - we wouldn't have needed to play Moore, Wallace, or Pruitt during injuries etc...... which means there's a good chance we beat Buffalo and Detroit whom IMO seemed like the inferior team.

Hartline might be a better route runner, but his presence certainly doesn't positively impact the offense's success more. So what if he runs good routes and catches x amount of passes for x amount of yards and very few TDs. How does his existence impact the rest of the team? What does his presence do for Marshall? Nothing. It impairs it IMO. Brandon's production is the one we should be worrying about, not Brian's. If Brian's presence doesn't allow Brandon to play to his max potential, then he should be upgraded plain and simple.

Possible, it looks like they do have some time, don't think the Jets care about Braylon anymore now that they got Plax, even though he's older and was out for a while(Look at Vick). Not sure about Miller/O'Hara/Ricky, Hope they keep up talks with those players though so they don't miss out on all of them.

Don't get me wrong though. I like Hartline a lot for the kind of receiver he is, and as a #4 I feel he's a massive asset to our team. However, I don't think he's an asset as a #2. I'd like to see him in more of a complimentary role rather than a primary role is all.

With NE likely switching to a 4-3 while also adding Ocho, IMO it would make sense to bring in a guy who can help the offense convert passes under the pressure (or collapsing pocket) of Albert and Vince, a player who also offers us some scoring capability to counter Ocho's affect. Edwards would be a great candidate for this IMO.

I'm scared about throwing jump balls up to Hartline if Henne's pressured or blitzed, but I welcome it with Braylon.

NY loves to bring the pressure b/c of their coverage ability, so I'd like to see us counter that by bringing in someone NY has to respect.
That's 4 games where an added playmaker could really affect the way NY & NE play us and positively alter the outcome.

I don't see how Braylon would prefer to play for a team Zona over Miami.
