Expect alot of Zone blocking in first month or so of the season would be my guess for any teams with new players on the OL. If I'm right about us going to the Spread as a major part of our offense, that actually works hand in hand because zone is used in the Spread rushing scheme in a big way. I personally like more traditional schemes with strong counter games and a pass attack that attacks the whole field. We currently have a 58 game winning streak going in So Cal at my HS against teams that primarily run the Spread. We've never lost to a Spread team in fact!

Former Cowboy Davis would have to be on the list. Ohara would be valuable as someone that could tutor Pouncey, even if Ohara was playing OG / C.
I don't care where they put Pouncey in terms of C/ G I just don't want them not being decisive.

Pouncey would be better served as a G for the 1st year .... so he can learn this year, and next year be able to make the line calls.

As much confidence i had in us drafting him ... i don't have such confidence in his ability to walk right in without the benefit of OTCs, etc to learn the line calls.

Heck, maybe this reopens the 'Incognito to center' debate we had much earlier in the off season for this year.

RT @JasonLaCanfora: Falcons agree to terms with LG Justin Blaylock. Big move for their OL. Kept Clabo and Blaylock and only lost Dahl.

Exactly, just do it quickly and do not look back, that has been Sparano's Bane.

It bothers me that Pouncey will have to make the linecalls in less then a month as well as learning to play Center in the NFL and going up against NE's Wilfork and Haynesworth, that is not a recipe for success.

Can we sign another skill position guy please?

Sure sure. But we know he can;t resist shuffling the line.

And how did Pouncey get listed on our official roster as a G/C?

Pouncey will be tried at guard sooner or later. It's Sparano's M.O. to shuffle everything between the bookends.

I'd say TS knows he needs more bodies on the oline, and he wants to get them all here early to avoid the shuffle. No time to experiment this year. No coincidence he's getting who he can as early as he can.

A guy near the tail end, coming off a season where he missed most of the games, to back-up our injury prone line. Fantastic.

Ohara is not going to be our starting center. He'll be another versatile backup to play when injuries hit. Pouncey is our stud. leave him at center so he can learn.

IMO, you wouldn't sign a Pro Bowl C just to move him to G.

As long as Jake remains on PUP it gives one of the backups, (Barbre?) a chance to make a case for being kept as a backup OT. The other 4 I agree with you Kowalski. After this week, they need to be settled and allowed to jell together.

Actually, when Dahl signed with StL, I figured the Falcons would push hard to resign Blalock. They kept 4/5s of their OL intact with only the easiest one to fill, RG, left open. Good move by the Falcons.

Most of the time I'm prone to agree with you and Miss Former 34DDs, but IMO, if you sign a current Pro Bowl C, it's not to be a backup.

I think they want Pouncey to develop long-term which isn't a bad thing at all. Having a guy like O'Hara for Pouncey in the same way that Smiley assisted Long early on would be a good thing. That's not even mentioning that O'Hara is a very good player when healthy and considering he's a good player in space I think he'd make a good addition at LG.

Any updates on when Long will be practicing?

I certainly think you might if you just spent a high 1st round pick on a C.

If you personally think that would be the better option in the 'here and now'. then I can certainly respect, though disagree with your opinion. IMO, the better option would be use the Pro Bowl C at his natural position, the one he personally considers his natural position, and let the kid get his feet wet at LG. Sticking Pounce between the current All Pro LT and one of the most recent Pro Bowl Cs would make about an ideal environment for him to spend his rookie season.

I don't think moving a Center to Guard is a big deal. Not like moving anyone to Center, or in either direction between Guard and Tackle. You've got to be cognizant of the players skill-set and what you'll ask of him, though. If a guy ended up at center because he's not a great pass protector, then you don't want him playing at guard with all the 3-techniques of the league teeing off on him.

I would tend to think O'Hara would be fine at Guard. He was a Guard when he played for the Browns.

Why do I get the feeling that if they sign Shaun O'Hara it will be to have a straight up competition with Mike Pouncey at Center, so that Joe Berger can compete at Guard?

This is the Dolphins. They have a certain way of thinking.

I have suspected all along that Pouncey will play LG, know what Sparano said, but think we see him at LG with Richie at RG and then insert O'Hara in at Center.

Sparano was pretty forthcoming about Pouncey playing Center.

everyone needs competition besides jake long cause there isn´t any for him, berger is more of a LG or RG ?

Maybe that was because he didn't have O'Hara yet. What is going to say? Pouncey is our C unless we sign O'Hara? Tony does some odd things with the interior OL, so it would not surprise me however he decided to line them up, if we do get O'Hara.

We signed Berger as a G. I don't think he played C before 2009 when Grove got hurt. At least as a full time starter.

That's what I'd do. What better way for Pouncey to learn than between an All Pro LT and one of the current Pro Bowl Cs? Everyone's been saying we need a LG who can make the long pull, comfortable in space, block on the 2nd level.

It's not exactly a big secret that they've been looking at Guards in free agency. It's quite possible that Pouncey can end up at Center, but they're going to put the best five they can on the field, and acting as if their movement of players on the OL is just random or nonsensical is really being obtuse.

It apparently isn't random or nonsensical to Tony, and he's the decider. If I find some of his decisions odd, well that is just my personal opinion. You can't use obtuse either. That's my word. I am Andy Dufresne, not you. :tongue2:

Personally I don't care what he plays, as long as he plays the same friggin position and doesn't get Pounced around which seemed to be one of Coach S, specialties. Musical O-linemen

Especially if he is going to play C. Big difference in playing G and center.....

Yep, say it out loud Mr C:

Richie Incognito has spent most of his career at RG, so we will put him at LG, we need a LG who is more mobile, so we put our #1 pick at Center, now we have a UDFA playing RG, but we may replace him with a 7th rd pick who the Jets waived in 2008, but the RG we drafted last yr in rd #3 is not good enough to play yet..so we are looking at a 34 yr old Center?

    Uhmm..

  37. MrClean

Tony admitted he did too much of moving OL last camp, trying to find the best match. So he is going to try and get the starting 5 settled early this year and just go with them. I recall reading words to that effect a while back anyway.
