There's been a lot of complaints of what Ireland has done so far, which I've come to expect on this forum. Although I don't agree with all the moves made (or not made), I think he has done well.

The draft is pure speculation at this point. I believe we had a VG one, and were able to fill needs (add in Edds & Odrick, if ya like). I do not think the Jets or Pats did as well but, that's yet to be proven.

In FA and trades, we did not lose much of anything. We upgraded with Burnett over Crowder, IF healthy Bush over last year's version of R or R, and maybe a bit with Moore over Ziggy. Re-signing McD gives trade options or great depth.

Jets lost B Smith, Edwards, Ellis, Pool, and Woody. They add Plax. I can't say that they upgraded over what they lost.

Pats did not not lose much. They added "Pat Albert and Ochocinqo, which may or may not work out.

When I add in all of our young guys developing, I sincerely believe that we have improved more than the Jets or Pats this off season. Is it enough? Stay tuned.

Damn, I thought for sure this would create a debate. Where are all the FO bashers?

I guess facts kinda put a damper on things.

Thought I'd read Baas signed with Giants.

Edit: He did, just googled him. Guess that is why they cut O'Hara.

well, burress could be a very nice target in the end zone for Sanchez, but not sure he's an overall improvement over Edwards.
Ochocinco will have a pretty good year, IMO. not pro-bowl by any means because he definitely has lost some ability as he's gotten older, but having Brady throw him the ball will only help.
Pat Albert will get the benefit of being only the 2nd or 3rd best Dlineman for the patsies. he will have spurts of success if he's only getting single teamed because Olines are focusing more on Wilfork.

getting Odrick back, coupled with Burnett is a big upgrade IMO. people seem to take for granted that Odrick won a starting spot on an already formidable front line last preseason. If he stays healthy, it makes McDaniel a luxury backup. We may not have made the shiny moves everyone was hoping for, but Ireland has been a front 7 on defense that is Top 5, IMO. and if one of these FA guards can solidify that position on our Oline, our Oline will for once be able to dictate against many opposing defensive lines. If we stay healthy, I see no reason we aren't competing for a division title. I think we still lose, but we'll be competitive until the end of the season.

I hear Odrick is still limping around camp. Not good. I personally don't count him in the mix. Everything I've heard about his leg has been really bad.

    Back in Miami
Let's not focus and what "they" have done.

I think we still have issues that merit addressing to make the Phins the best they can be.

The Orton situation which is the 600 pound Gorilla in the room I'm fine with. If we get him for what we feel he's worth then fine but I'm also ok with them staning firm and not getting him.

RB to me is a big problem right now. I hope were not done here.
Going into the year with a rookie while also hoping scat back Reggie Bush is capable of taking on a featured back role we could be in BIG trouble.
A vet back needs to be brought in even if it's resigning Williams or Brown.

TE: My biggest dissapointment is the non pursuit of Zach Miller. Regardless of somes take in here that a TE just isn't that important I have to heavily disagree. A true talented pass catching TE creates lots of problems for a defense and can loosen up coverage for the outside guys. We haven't had one in a long time and it at least seems like we could have cared less that a top one was available.

Those are my 2 biggest dissapointments so far.

Ireland's off-season is justifiably debatable right now. I like the Burnett signing, but Bush has never really lived up to his billing, and it's debatable how much of a feature back he can be. If Daniel Thomas doesn't turn out to be a gem, the running game could be pretty putrid. Likewise if they don't sign and trade for Orton you leave the team in the hands of Henne and Moore. One of them is going to need to step up.

But if we're going to do a comparison to the Jets and Patriots, then I don't think there's any favorite right now. Neither the Jets or Patriots have done anything that's blew me away or caused concern. To me, the Jets are currently trying to stay par with what they were. The Patriots have taken some interesting risks, but they are just that. Risks.

"Suck for Luck" seems to be the direction that the Gm and HC are taking us........

Just hope Ross isn't dumb enough to think that these clowns know what they are doing.

This is for people who see the obvious ...if you don't see it fine don't want to try to explain can't.

have to admit that who ever is in here next year has a nice defense to build around.

Friggin Dallas want to be's finally sick of it..........were toast.....

That's pretty much my point PG. I believe that we have gotten better than our competition has within the division. For doing that, I think Ireland deserves some credit in place of mindless shots.

GODDAMNIT, there's always a catch in taking shots but, only if you're serious.

Just curious but does our organization have something against signing an offensive player actually in his prime. A RB WR posibbly to push or actually upgrade Hartline. TE to do the same with Fasano, oh I forgot how great he was last year and he's an x Dallas friend of our clowns in charge.....

    Whats with ?
OL now for years aging oft injured X-dallas guys and our line is still in restructure....and the same ole pattern still going on (4 years) although addition of Pounce....

Just down folks really beginning to see were on a dead end street with a circle at the end.......

I'm jealous of all you who are able to see the good here wish I could too.......

    Rico here

My old friend I'm so tired of explaining stuff over and over and over and it's true you have a right to an answer, but Im tired and this might be the last post for some time because I see I'm just to bummed at seeing the same pattern that just is taking us down that same street of a frustrating, aggravating year like last.

No guns on offense RB ????we get rid of Ronnie and Ricky fine and we fill it with what an UNKNOWN and a scat back (good) thats supposed to carry the load for the first time, whos injury pattern is usually yearly with half the carrys. Hartline what we can't up grade, a couple good TE out there, no we gotta have more depth at OL .....they never going to figure out the OL.

    QB Henne questionable......Moore come on...........

Tired of it, it's like were on training wheels compared to the rest of our division......

Really? Are we not a better team than Buffalo? do we not have a winning record vs Rex Ryan and his beloved Jets?
I realize you're bummed out, but you're blowing all this out of proportion.
The only thing I'm bummed out about is not having a good solid option as our #3 RB.

Bradshaw.....Miller....Christ even resigning Ronnie..WR you can choose just want upgrade.......

It's like they're offensively stuck in the OL depth dept. going on 4 years now.

Defense is fine Burnett good but come on our Offense is pathetic and scariest thing is I'm afraid that who ever come in next year (crossing fingers) is not going to have the advantage of the good defense we have now by the time they find a QB and get legitimate starters in here and we'll still be fixing the OL........
    sick of it.

LOL.... Ohio we don't know if we have a #1 RB.
    There is legitimate concern there.

I'm not freaking out because a lot of RB's remain on the market.
If we do end up going into the season depending on the rook and Bush at RB though these guys can then flat out be called neglectful.

My opinion of Ireland's off-season is mixed. I generally liked the draft, but I'm not thrilled with many of the FA signings. I'm most happy about the FAs or trades that we didn't make.

Rico, Been a long time, hope all is well.

You're not looking at the "Whole Picture." I REALLY like Hartline, and belive he will be better than anyone we could have signed.

Chances are we will sign another RB. It may well be Ronnie. Bradshaw and Miller were too much to hope for.

ya and we won 2 superbowls and had the perfect season so what

How'd we do against Buffulo last year and they are getting better, but truly sad when it gets down to comparing us with Buffulo

Wish I could see things like you but there's just know way it overwhelmingly obvious to me.....

glad you think we need a #3 RB....Our #1 RB is he any good ? (how the F do we know)

sorry sobe ...40 years of being a Dolphin fan and these last 10 years are finally wearing me out........
we'll just have to wait and see if this is or isn't a train wreck

We need a running back badly. Can't count on a rookie and Reggie Bush. We have to nab a proven back who we know can get it done. There is no way I could feel comfortable going into the season with our RBs corp as is. Sign Ricky. Sign Ronnie. Sign someone.

So far, my friend, it's Henne. Call me crazy but, he led the off season workouts (to my surprise), and has gained the respect of many players for doing so. IMO, that is what was missing in Henne, a set of balls and some leadership. He did not have that, or the confidence necessary, to play the position last year.

Forget all the other valid reasons for an average at best season, he NEEDED to grow a pair, and take control of the team. IF he accomplished that, as I believe he did, we're in for a good season.

Bush, IF healthy, has a chip on his shoulder. Think his ego didn't take a shot by everyone calling him a bust? Guarantee it did, and I believe he will take it out on the rest of the league.

Our OL was actually pretty good, and Pouncey and health, will make it better.

I would add in the rookies but, who knows what they may do.

i agree with you on this WE only ween to be interested in the third tier players which is why se underperformed last year . just my observation. I can see not signing Randy Moss or T.O because they are done. I can also see why we did not go after McNabb but taking Mat Moore over Vince Young is like taking Eddie Moore over Anquan Boldin , at least in my eyes it seems that way.

In the two head to head meetings last season, we were outscored by the Patriots 11,000,101 to 3. And they have Tom Brady and we have Chad Henne. Having relatively equal offseasons to teams that are better isn't cause for celebration.

The fact they didn't address the QB position in the draft or via trade is the reason why no one is happy. But at least Ireland hasn't shipped out another 2nd rounder. Yet.

    ouch

thats the reassuring part Henne ?

Bush playing his normal roll with a real QB and a real proven RB would bring a little excitement.

Ireland has not only done little to improve the weakest aspect of the team Offense, he's actually screwed up and left us with little alternatives for a QB.....Boy Henne better be atleast average....

Sad part is They wasted such a special Free agency period we may never see again

I'm firmly in the Ireland being gone with Coach FG ....

There ineffective approach shows no real signs of much improvement.
And to think that they were telling us how aggressive they were going to be in FA.....

Ya and I'm going out and buying 100 tickets................Ross is asleep at the wheel but when he runs out of gas (money) he might.....might wake up and get someone in here who knows what they are doing or atleast more than us.......................

    were screwed again

Still think we need a boost to the offense. I think Dolphins may sign Ricky or Ronnie to help out. We have the room. It'll probably be Ricky if they do it, I think he'd be more likely to sign a one or two year deal.

IMO, Ireland has made some mistakes. The point of this thread was to name them. Raf has mentioned Sproles over Bush, a debatable point. Others have mentioned not getting Orton, a debatable point. I think we should have replaced Bell this year, a debatable point. There are many.

My problem lies with a number of posters saying the FO SUCKS, and giving no reason whatsoever, just a lynch mob mentality of hanging em high for no apparent reason. This is bothersome.

I think the #1 priority should have been upgrading the QB position, either via the draft or in free agency/trades, and that hasn't happened yet. Maybe a veteran a la Pennington will fall in our laps again. I sure hope so.

Jets kept S. Holmes, someone we don't have a comparison to. Plax replaces Edwards, and might be better since Edwards is likely to fall into the Commissioner's wrath at some point in the near future...may also be why there isn't a market for him. Ellis was a situational rusher for them, so not a great loss. Woody could have been replaced last year. We have our own Woody in Columbo now...You say they haven't improved over last year, and that may be true, but a) they also have young players that they hope will develop that are speculation at this point and b) Both the Pasties and the jests had better personnel to start with. Even if your in the Henne is as good/bad as Sanchez group, their OL from last year was better than ours, their WR group was better than ours, their RB group was better than ours, their TEs are better than ours...I'm not conceding the season to the jests or pasties, but the fact is that they have better personnel overall and better coaching than we do, right now...

So our additions might bring us closer to them, but not better than they are. I'm not against anything they've done, but I'm a bit miffed at what they haven't done, at least in regards to TE, WR, RB, and S...the last two days have seen some changes in the OL, so I'll reserve judgement on that area, but what about the rest...
