This is something I've wanted for years. For me, it makes sense for teams to be able to target who they want/need after seeing what they get in the draft, where they have no control. Mike & Mike mentioned that the NFL may consider it but, it is unlikely.Would you rather have FA in May as opposed to March? One other thing to ponder. IF FA came first, how would it have affected our draft picks?
The combine is mostly a waste but, the NFL will never give up the attention it receives, and it is a place for teams to meet and discuss trades, etc as well.
Have the combine be 2 weeks before the draft. Then have a week and a half to do indivisual workouts/interviews. Make it frantic and fun.
It might be fun for you, but do you really think anyone in an NFL front office would say that sounds fun?
I like this season's FA period. It feels almost like the draft does with everything packed into a shorter time period. Football could really capitalize on this excitement if they bottled it into a a narrow window and sold it like the draft.
Yup, combine's not going anywhere. It has a symbiotic relationship with the draft. Each helps give the other more notoriety & attention.
