If you've been following the practice reports like a crazed animal (like myself) you just might have noticed a wide receiver by the name of Patrick Carter impressing some of the reporters. Who is this guy and does he really have a shot at making the 53 man roster or practice squad? At 6 foot 3, 215 pounds, this is his fourth training camp, after attempts with the Ravens, Bucs, Seahawks. He also spent time with the Denver Broncos last year and the Hartford Colonials of the UFL, where then head coach Chris Palmer assuredly referred him to the Dolphins player personnel. He's a former college quarterback with sprinter speed and soft hands. Has his game developed enough to finally make that breakthrough in Miami? The following is taken from his predraft writeup with CBS Sports. 4.2+ speed? This video was taken back in 2007. He's thrown a TD pass at Dolphins stadium before. More than I can say for several of our qb's... Crazy as it sounds, I like the fact he has bounced around so much, most of the time speed guys are flashes in the pan. Hard to see a role for him though P13, like the Anthony Armstrong situation all over again.
plus a 37" vertical; 10.01 broad jump; 6.80 3 cone; 1.44 10 yard split. Impressive. This regime clearly sees how the lack of a 2010 speed impaired the offense and desperately needed to be addressed. How many sub 4.4 guys is it that we brought in? Edmund Gates Reggie Bush Patrick Carter Nic Grigsby And this isn't including the faster TEs.
I disagree... Marlon Moore has struggled so far. You'd expect Marlon to be the favorite for the 5th WR position behind, Marshall / Bess / Hartline / Gates. Roberto Wallace and Julius Pruitt are probably higher up, but that doesn't mean anything. You impress on special teams, you have a shot. This kid has the frame to impress on special teams. I also think we have a shot to keep 6 wr's this year.
agreed... speed kills. Sparano is already impressed with Grigsby and his second gear. Can't wait for the first preseason game.
Imho, Gates takes over MM's #4 Wr job, Wallace stays #5, though he can press Hartline for more playing time, and BM does typically miss games due to his playing style. Where would he fit in? Like the kid's heart.. he has to beat out Wallace for a real shot at sticking.
I hope Grigsby doesn't end up like one of these guys who impresses in preseason and is still thrown onto the practice squad, only to have him swiped away by someone else.
I think someone of his size/speed would be able to contribute on special teams. Seemed to do well as a gunner on punt coverage...
Is the team even in pads yet? LOL. I've been done getting excited about Robert Bakers running around in shorts for quite a while now.
Well, Mike Williams needed a few years out of football before he was ready for football. Maybe this guy is similar.
Bro do you know how many years I've seen players flash sparkling abilities and speed in shorts? Lets talk surprise players when we have something really to go on. All I'm saying.
Mike Williams was holding Mike Williams back. That's why I wanted us to sign him last offseason----> you could see the excitement and massive desire to finally make something of himself. The talent was always there, but someone forgot to screw in the light bulb. If Carter has 8/10ths of Mike's natural ability, then he'll be worth developing IMO...... IF he wants it bad enough.
Some players who are in top form impress straight away. Anyone else remember the reports of a young Bryan Cox impressing at the rookie mini camp shortly after the draft? Just shorts there too but he was flying around the field.
Carter is 'slightly' different as he hasn't exactly had an easy go of it thus far. Desire is always higher with guys like this. Moore and Wallace were picked up and remained with the team .... sometimes these guys need a wake up call like Carter got. We'll see next week where we really stand -- looks like they'll give Moore and Wallace every opportunity to prove themselves during camp. Gates and Carter together put pressure on both Moore and Wallace. Wallace showed he could play STs last year -- don't believe Moore can say the same, which puts him on the mark as the odd man out.
