The Dolphins still are trying to set themselves up to make another potentially big roster move, which is the reason they gave to Carey when making their demand for a pay cut, according to the Herald. I have to think that you don't tell a player that unless it's real. The problem is that if Carey agrees, I don't see an available player who would be a "big roster move." Who might it be?
Don't do it SB!!! Ireland thought Brian Hartline in the 4th rd was an exciting pickup...you are only setting yourself up for disappointment!
I sure hope the FO hasn't given in to Denver and Orton's high demands. There is no need for this franchise to overpay for a stop gap QB again that's had a recent good year or two to boost his perceived value. I haven't heard or seen us linked to anyone else major at this point. Leonard Davis is about it. I'd love for it to be another big time playmaker on offense though, but, it's probably going to be OL help.
I mean I could see them doing nothing as well, Carey should take a paycut.....but I think this round goes into the Orton handgun...
I dunno. The way this team appears to be run at the moment it'll be for a back up lineman (your choice of either side).
After seeing Hartline, in a 7 game stretch, being our best player on O I agree on him being an exciting 4th round pickup Padre. I don't see anyone out there I would consider a 'BIG" addition. So, I can't be disappointed.
Henne's advantage grows day by day over Orton, and Denver appears to like keeping him more and more. Unless Ross is listening to fans booing Henne and wanting Orton, I don't see a trade happening. Ross is an *** though, and who knows what he might do. I don't blame Tuna for leaving.
Oh, not bagging on Hartline as imho, his problem is health not talent, am saying what Ireland finds exciting, and what we find exciting, are two totally different things. IE..Fist pump for Ronald Fields...Malcolm Floyd..not so much.
Look I really like Hartline, the guy has good hands and more often than not seems to get behiind the D. He is also a solid route runner and has some smarts. Maybe not exciting, but a guy I really like to have on our team.
Gotcha. I really do not want another WR. I'm happy with who we have, and do want to see Gates get some snaps. I would like another RB, and another TE. I don't believe either will be a BIG deal, but a necessary one.
Sometimes you have to move out a productive player for one who offers even more production. I am mistrustful of Braylon Edwards, think he is a world class knucklehead, also think that should not put us off.
The tuna didn't leave because of ross he left because its what he does. He's done it to everybody else, why all of a sudden would he be innocent in this instance?
Hartline can hold it down until Gates learns the position better, I really wanted another G but I'm also a little shocked we have done nothing at the Saftey position. Since there isn't much out there, maybe they are gearing up for Orton or perhaps anticipating a big cut from someone.
Can't really see a big move coming, unless you count Shaun O'Hara or maybe Dashon Goldson as that move. I'd like to think they're freeing up money to sign Paul Soliai or extend either Kendall Langford or Cameron Wake; something like that.
That may well be true. However, if I'm a President, VP, GM, or any coach on a football team, Ross is the last guy I would want to be working for. "Crazy Al" may be considered but, at least he knows football or, at least remembers more than Ross will ever know.
Why? Because ross doesn't throw money at the team. No thats not true. Because ross interferes with personnel decisions? No evidence of that really. Ross f'ed up with the public search for a new coach, but seriously, he doesn't interfere half as much as other owners. You are exaggerating things.
One would think we are setting ourselves up for a big roster move but proven our history, I think it will be a small one.
i just don't see any 'big' moves left out there .... Could still get Davis at G or O'Hara at C/G ... or Edwards at WR ... but with Miller off the board at TE -- i just don't see much out there, unless we consider trades ..... we could trade with the GIANTS for Osi -- but not sure what we would gain outta that to be honest, unless we swapped Langford or Merling for him. It's a move we don't need to make though. Of course the Orton trade is still out there -- but doubt that Fox will want to lose him, and i don't see the benefit vs value of paying him 10+MIL a year. It's too much for his talent set. I am hopeful that the Colombo signing was to plug a gap at G and not T .... as much as i maintain that we overvalue Carey, he is definately better than Colombo. I doubt the issue is $$$$, at least this year -- 4 MIL is reasonable for a starting RT ... you want a 'big' signing .... talk Moss .... while not a big fan -- having him on the outside with Marshall and Bess, and move Hartline to a 'Welker' role and you'd have something there .............
Hoping it is Orton. He is the most impactful addition we can make at this point. You want to see a difference with one guy? Its at the quaterback position......Orton makes us a threat to make the playoffs....
I just started that other thread about us not contacting Soliai. I know this might sound crazy, but could we be thinking of moving him? I don't understand why else we wouldn't have worked out an extension. We've got Odrick looking good in camp. We re-signed Tony McDaniel. Everyone knows that the plan last year was to move Starks to NT. Something just smells fishy here. We can't possibly intend to pay Big Paul $12 million on the franchise tag this year, can we?
Perhaps we're just waiting to see how fit he is, but that shouldn't take all that long. And you would think we'd still have contacted Canter to start talking about numbers/years.
Carson Palmer immediately came to my mind as well. I don't think its THAT far fetched. Sure would turn things around with him at the helm. I agree that Palmer has been average at best since the injurey, but just imagine what he'd do with Jake Long protecting his blindside and Brandon Marshall, Reggie Bush, Hartline, and Bess to throw to. Add a top 10 defense, and now we're talking!
Something always smells fishy in dolphinland , but I highly doubt they are planning to move Soliai ...redo his contract? that I think will happen though . I think several players are on the near horizon to renegotiate their contract to be palatable to them and much more so for the dolphins ..just my opinion though .
Osi Umeniyora??????? It would kinda be like the Jets adding Namdhi, but it would make our D unbelievable with Wake and Osi coming attcha!
