Maybe Jared Gaither's price has crashed in the slow-down of the FA market if his back checks out. Now that's a decent reason to move Carey to Guard.
there is the big move...via ben volin The Dolphins have reportedly opened long-term contract talks with DE Kendall Langford. Langford is slated to earn $1.4 million in the final year of his rookie deal. A key piece in Miami's sixth-ranked defense last season, Langford graded out as a top-five all-around 3-4 defensive end, according to Pro Football Focus.
Don't forget the draft pick. Starks is expendable right now after re-signing McDaniel, Langford on deck, and Odrick looking good so far. How about Osi & Manningham for Starks, Hartline, and we give up a mid round pick? It aint happening but a guy can wish cant he.
Opening talks with Langford qualifies as big news? I love Langford and I'm glad, but if thats considered big news, we're doomed for the remainder of FA.
The loyalty to Hartline continues to baffle me. Bess and Marshall are our receivers, everyone else should be helping them to get open. If Manningham can do that better than Hartline then come on down.
Our front office is pretty secretive, there could be a lot going on that doesn't reach the papers and blog sites.
It would make no sense to start Colombo. I think they may be checking Gaither. That would be an upgrade, no doubt.
Everyone gives Hartline too much crap. Hopefully he improves again this year to silence all the bashers.
I don't know if he failed it or they just weren't willing to shell out huge cash for him with those injuries.
Gardenhead prediction: Carson Palmer. Why? 1. Mike Brown just traded Ochocinco. He's been demanding a trade for years. Mike Brown's been denying for years. This is significant. 2. Mike Brown very well might blink in this standoff if he thinks he can improve the team THIS YEAR. If we can send a top-knotch D-lineman + our 2012 First Rounder, that might be tempting. 3. Ireland/Sparano are pretty desperate for a QB and might give Mike Brown an offer he can't refuse.
A top notch D player and a 1st Round QB..... What, we figure out how to dial back the clock and get Palmer from 6 years ago?
There's two ways to look at the Soliai issue... He plays a position that takes some time to develop into an elite players. Very few guys come out of college as great NTs in the 3/4 scheme we play. That said, he finally blossomed last season. He's primed to be attractive to some other teams. It's unlikely that we want to keep the tag on him, but given the uncertainty of the labor issue, placing the tag on him was prudent. He just might be being dangled...as you said. However, he due to his heretofore immaturity as an NFL pro and the time it's taken for him to develop, perhaps they may be thinking he may not quite be there yet, that his immaturity can/will rear it's ugly head at some point this soon...It's really hard to say about him. If he continues to play like the beast he was last season, we're in good shape. If he bombs out, we're only in if for this year ?? I don't know... Could also be that his agent is taking a hard stance and wants some outrageous figures as well.
You know, if they are dead set on replacing Henne...Palmer is just about the only guy that is 'available' at this point that even comes remotely close to being worth that amount, but again, they have to be sure about him and either pull the trigger or not...don't drag anything like this thru the media grinder like they did the Orton issue... And I believe they are desperate enough, both Brown and Ireland/Sparano...
you canĀ“t underestimate how great a move it was to put the franchise tag on soliai, although it was the only move that made sense
I'm not advocating this move. But I think Ireland/Sparano know that if we go 7-9 / 8-8 / 9-7 and miss the playoffs again, they're toast. Why not mortgage the future for a QB that is not named Henne?
Of all the QBs available (and that includes the one who have already found new homes) Palmer would be my top choice. But no way would I give up a #1 for. I do think he has a good bit left in the tank. I also think they Henne could learn from him. Palmer is a perfect example, IMO, of a guy who could benefit from a change of scenery and would excel. I still think Henne can get it done, but for him to play behind Palmer for a year or two may do him some good. Unfortunately, it seems that the only way we could even make Brown flinch is to dangle something hard to resist. I doubt that will happen. But Carson would look in a Phins uni.
First I don't see Brown moving off his stance regarding Palmer. Second I don't think Ireland is on as much of a hot seat as some tend to think. A sure way to get fired is to overspend on a band aid approach imo , and to limit the next regime from properly addressing the QB chasm. If Miami manages the cap with moves like Carey , Soliai , and Long Marshall , and Dansby perhaps and puts themselves in a strong position to act on acquiring significant players when/if they becaome available and we have almost all holes filled except for QB , I believe that is a better way to ensure you have at least another year. This should have been dealt with ages ago , it wasn't and can't be magically fixed..... so do the right thing even if it means we still don't have the QB we need to make deep and consistent playoff runs. Just my opinion though. Cheers !
I have actually seen that rumored, and they reportedly had interest in him in the past. However, fwiw the Giants have apparently now rescinded Umeniyora's ability to work out a trade with another team.
we should've locked him up mid way through last year. I didn't think there was any question to what his dedication would be like after the tragedy his family suffered. At least we have him for a year.
Aubrayo Franklin, who is very similar to Soliai, found no takers and had to sign a one year deal with the Saints, who did not need a NT. I do not understand why, other than reports that he only played well in a contract year. From what I've seen, Miami does not want to go long term with Soliai until he proves to be more than a one year player. That could change to free up cap space but, appears unlikely based on who is left out there.
All I'm saying is that Padre is going to look like a freakin' genius when we wake up tomorrow and Chris Johnson is a Dolphin.
