Washing out on a physical for the Raiders sort of tells his story, after a yr off at that.

I think it has to do more with Carey. He needs a resolution, either be gone as our RT or finish out your contract as our RG next to Pouncey. I still think he should be the LG, but hey Incognito is strong at LG outside of his inability to pull.

If they were to switch Pouncey-Incognito it would be perfect but they don't want to do that apparently.

    LT- Long
    LG- Pouncey
    C- Incognito
    RG- Carey
    RT- Gaither

    Would be ****ing ridiculous.

If Gaither is 100%, and personally I like Murtha/Garner and think Colombo will do fine for us, but I suspect there are 3 reasons why Carey moved:

-lack of RG talent they trusted, meaning JJ disappointed (thought they were not happy with him in 2010), and Feinga and Barbre were not impressing
-More talent at RT, three good players to sort through
-They want to go jumbo on the interior Oline to counter the pats and jets I'd guess.

They're going jumbo because they have to face about 12-13 3-4 teams this year and they feel that if the NT is contained, Incognito-Carey can absolutely destroy the inside.

My one regret is that we won't have the ability to pull from LG as well as I'd like. Colombo can still run block at least...

Hopefully Sparano comes to his senses and starts Nate Garner at RT.

Well we also face so many 4-3 "under" looks, for example the Pats are looking at Raheem Brock, the RG has to handle a DT on their nose.

How was Murtha last year aside from the blown assignments etc...

As in his actual man-to-man performance?

    :dunno:

He and N Carrol's PFF performance has not really come up this offseason, McQuistan was mentioned as a lower third of the league RG,otherwise..not much said really.

If they would just make the stupid switch with Incognito-Pouncey the line would be nearly ideal outside of RT.

I hear you. I have absoloutely no faith in Columbo as our RT. He has been banged up for the last 2 years and if we have learned anything from Grove and Smiley once these guys in the trenches start getting hurt for long stretches they don't seem to recover fully. Ever.

Just curious, could Carey have practiced at guard because Fiega missed practice?

    Just a question.

If Miami attends with a line of Long-Incognito-Pouncey-Carey-Colombo...is that line really more athletic than the Long-Incognito-Berger-McQuistan-Carey line? I thought that was one of the goals this off season, make the line more athletic. I guess Pouncey is more athletic but now the RG/RT situation gets decidedly less so.

    How about:

Remember that we're still in the first week of training camp. Nothing is etched in stone at this point so why bother getting bent out of shape over who plays where? Rey Feinga was the first team RG a few days ago, lets all panic.

It better be Garner or even Jerry at RT then. But considering how clueless this staff is, Marc "Turnstile" Colombo will be the starter...

I think that improves the RG, however it does make the RT much worse.

I am hoping either Colombo is healed or he was signed to give him a chance until Gardner or whoever they sign tomorrow can practice.

Isn't it obvious, guys? Jake Long was always "only a RT." Clearly, we're moving him over there.

Also, can we talk to the honey badger guy about doing a video for Incognito? I just want to hear "Richie don't care!" as he punches some dude in the throat.

Just watched Tony Sparano's presser. He said that Colombo and Murtha will be battling for the RT spot. No mention of Nate Garner.

We better come to expect this on opening day.

    Long
    Incognito
    Pouncey
    Carey
    Colombo

He said they thought about the move for Vernon before and talked to each other about it. I think in their minds a few dominoes fell into place. Marc Colombo was released giving them a chance to upgrade in their mind (maybe not upgrade the RT, but upgrade the right side with those two over Jerry & Carey). They saw it as a chance to get a cheaper option at RT & reduce Carey's number. And I think they didn't like the price tag or film on Leonard Davis and Shaun O'Hara wasn't interested in coming down here to play RG.

Has anybody even seen Colombo practicing? Does he look like he's in early 2009 form or is he just injured/struggling like he has been for a while now?

They better have Wake rush them constantly for the next 2 weeks. Make sure they can handle it.

Would make sense if they went after Leonard Davis and moved Carey back to RT as well. That would be good use of Carey's cap savings and you would create leverage to make such a move.

This quote from Sparano probably has a lot of validity imo "he’s a smart player and smart players are good inside. That’s critical right now with Pouncey in the middle of he and Richie surrounding him with good people.”

I'am in favor of the move, and have been very critical of carey the past two years, I know he was injured last year, but when you rewatch a lot of stuff and isolate, I thought he was becoming a liability out there..

I think Garner wasn't mentioned because he isn't allowed to practice yet I believe?

Sparano mentioned Garner at the start of the press conference , when he was referencing players that he was looking forward to seeing today , as they could not practice till now. Not sure if he gets reps at RT but i would be surprised if he did not.

I've said for several years that Carey is a very good RT who could be a pro bowl guard. Guess now he gets the chance to prove it. I usually said it around draft time though when a good RT prospect was available in the first couple of rounds. Not feeling it yet about Colombo being the starting RT. Hoping his knee is all the way healthy again though, which we know it wasn't in 2010 what with him having it scoped in August. It is a minor miracle that he could start 15 games, and be even modestly effective.

If they think Carey is better at RG, that's fine. But I would like to see Garner get a shot at RT.

Health is a key as is conditioning , I certainly get the feeling that Sparano thinks Carey's effectiveness will be much better at gaurd going forward than at tackle , and I have to agree with him. Now it is up to big Vern if he enjoys a real nice second half of his career or not imo. I really hope he cares enough to make that happen.
