Not to make an excuse, but they didn't start booing until he threw the interception that lost us the game. Again not making an excuse, but don't make it sound like they booed him the whole game.

I actually thought the fanbase remained fairly loyal to Henne until they just couldn't fathom a 3rd straight home loss against teams we should have beaten.

I agree 100%. In the end, this isnt the old U.S.S.R.

In fact, I venture to say that those fans should be praised for their passion. Its not like they are going out to the practice to watch their team fail. They are obviously fans to want to go hangout at the stadium when its hot as hell (YES even at night here) and watch a freaking training camp practice. There were more people there than at a Marlins game for crying out loud.

They voiced there opinion since after all how else can they voice it? Calling a radio show? Sending a letter? Show up to Davie with picket signs? Come on man.

They want this team to do better. They reacted in a way that they, at the time, believed they could let management know how they were feeling about the product on the field, at that time.

Is it right? Is it classy? All debateable. Can they do it in the United States of America? YES.

From my perspective I think the booing is many years of frustration from not winning enough games, fans are fickle(myself included) and want to see a winner. It is not a good thing for the home team QB to hear that at this point in the season though.

Henne could actually diffuse this whole situation if he came out and said the fans deserve to boo, even if he didn't agree with it. Dan Uggla did the same thing a couple months ago and now everyone loves him (though a 25 game hitting streak doesn't hurt)

I think Sanchez is more aggressive because he has a coach who keeps prodding him to be. And in that particular case, I don't know that it is a good thing. With the Jets defense and running game, I think they'd have been better the last few years if Sanchez was a little less aggressive. Henne has a coach that constantly preaches "throw the ball away" and "just don't make a mistake." Rex Ryan has a very different mindset and attitude.

I'm not a big Henne fan, but there are a lot of guys who have improved significantly after a lot more than 6 years of starting in college and the pros. Hell, the guy so many people are pining for and who is the subject fo this thread (Orton) started for 3+ years in college and 2 years in the NFL (with another 2 years as a non-starter) before he became someone that anyone here would have even thought about trading a 2nd or 3rd round pick for. Drew Brees started 3 years in the big Ten and another 2 in the NFL (plus a year as a non-starter) before he became a good NFL QB. There are many others.

DJ don't be naïve, they weren't bringing in Orton (had it happened) to "compete". Most likely Henne would have been competing with Matt Moore for # 2, if he wasn't traded before Orton's plane hit the FTL runway.

You heard "competition" but what that really meant was "slanted competition heavily in favor of Kyle Orton".

that is a very dangerous game, if he is....I'm sure that wouldn't make Ross happy. HC doesn't make war with his own fans......not a good strategy, that is unless you want to be fired for sure.

Kyle Orton wasn't coming here to "compete". That was fan and media imaginations running wild, like Mallett in the first round. Trading a 2nd or 3rd rounder and giving a multi million dollar contract to a guy who might not start over the puppy you have on the roster making 550K? Yeah, right.

It makes even less sense for Orton. He's due 9 million for this season. Why take a pay cut and change teams just for a "chance" to start in Miami when he could refuse to restructure and make his $$$ in Denver, or force them to release him and market his services on the open market?

Anything to deflect off of Sparano. He is the amazing teflon head coach in DJ's mind.

Dude, Henning was not the HC, nor did he make many of the final decisions. Those are on the head of the HC. Sparano signed off on them, and as such being the HC takes the responsibility for them.

In other words their front offices treat the offensive side of the ball with respect. Ours seems to look at it, and especially the QB position with snobbish disdain.

Yet didn't have the cajones to take one with one of their 1sts, or move up to take one. Looks like they feel no QB is worthy of the 1st round pick.

I think he's talking about treating the QB position with disdain by not trying to provide the players and coaches necessary to succeed.

But either way, investing a bunch of #2's is kinda dumb... 1st round QB win SB. Guys who fall to round 2 and beyond usually don't with some exceptions here and there. 2nd round picks (via trade or draft) is like trying to catch lightning in a bottle.

    1. We had no choice against the Bear did we? Henne had hurt his knee in the game right before that.
    2. What's wrong with bringing in Moore? Most teams have at least 2 experienced QBs on the roster.

Bigtime disdain. They tell Henne instead of going out to win the game, he's coached and told to just don't lose the game for us.

That's still not disdain for the qb position. You are saying because they didn't invest a first rounder when they've invested other picks, two being right below the first round, that they do not respect the position. Thats pretty ridiculous.

I didn't feel there was a QB worthy of our first last year. I went into that draft hoping for a QB, but once Newton and Gabbert were gone I was hoping we didn't use a first rounder on a QB. I also didn't feel either of those guys was worth moving up for. I expect that this coming draft will have as many as four QBs that I could end up giving a first round grade to.

And if these guys are still here, dollars to donuts they will take either an OLineman, or move down in the draft to take.....an OLineman. A leopard doesn't change his spots, and Ireland/Sparano hate the QB position.

The Jags gave their 1st, 16th overall, plus their 2nd to move up for Gabbert at 10th overall. We did not have a 2nd so how could we have outbid the Jags? Maybe our 3rd plus a 2nd next year? Maybe out 1st next year? Would you have given two 1sts for Blaine Gabbert or Jake Locker?

theres probably more QBs taken in the first round that don't win super bowls than in any other round.

now super bowl winners usually are 1st rounders lately, but for every Aaron Rodgers theres an Alex Smith.

Brady Quinn, Jamarcus Russel, Carson Palmer, Byron Leftwich, David Carr, etc none of these have touched the lombardi trophy.

and Drew Brees, a 2nd rounder, isnt that far removed from a super bowl victory. Overall i guess im saying that you shouldn't put too much stock in 1st round QB status.

I didn't say 1st round QB guarantee SB... There's always a risk. But in the end, 1st round QB are elite compared to their respective 2nd round + class and the SB are more likely. I would also exclude Carson Palmer from the list with the rest of those busts. Guy plays for the circus known as Cinci... Not really his fault the team is a joke.

Who says we went after Orton hard? The media? The fans?

If we went after Orton hard we would've gotten him while he could've been got.
We clearly weren't going after him as hard as people think.
Negotiating to bring someone in doesn't necessarily quantify as hardcore pursuit. Failed negotiations are a dime a dozen the past week.

It doesn't matter how I feel about Henne, I wasn't ready to give this regime any 1st or 2nd round QB until they proved they deserved one. At least this offseason they've finally shown that they'll make a better effort to ensure a young QB's success, so I feel more comfortable about using a 2012 1st on one (but I still like Henne and am optimistic we'll be able to use that pick else where..... which we should all be hoping for).

We may have went after him "hard" but obviously we hit a brick wall that we didn't care to break the wall down. There are so many versions of the story in the chase for Orton that went down that I just can't believe any of them in full. Nobody knows what exactly happened(except those actually involved) but, we do know the end result. This regime didn't think Orton was worth what either the Broncos or Orton himself thought he was worth. I am good with that. They have to live with the decision and it's their jobs on the line. So if our FO didn't think Orton was worth either what Denver or Orton thought Orton was worth, then I am fine with that decision. They have to live with it.

As for me and my opinion, not that it matters, I did not want Orton via a trade. Bring him in, as a FA, as true competition, sure! But the way it was happening Orton only wanted to come here if we basically guaranteed him the starting spot and committed to him via a long term contract. To me, if you make that move, that's a bad business decision. JMHO.

Now that is true, if they had truly wanted Orton he would be taking practice reps right now.

BTW, Jared Odrick was on El Sid's show and he backed Henne as well but said they were not quite aware of what the crowd was chanting.

I really think Henne needs JT to do something similar.

Completely agree. No matter what we think of Henne, bringing in a guy with the condition that he'll be the starter (after the effort Henne put in this offseason) is almost like a slap in the face to the entire team and a great way to have them not bust their *** for you in the future.
