@Jay_Glazer First Tiki sighting. Tiki Barber worked out yesterday w the Dolphins. Heard he looked good, Fins 1st wanna see how their current crop does.
Doesn't hurt to bring a guy in for a workout. Tiki was an above average RB when he was in the league...after he fixed that fumbling problem that is. Word is he's in good shape. Yeah the guy is a dick and a bad teammate from most reports, but if you think he's got anything left you take a look at him. If they offer him a contract then color me confused with Ronnie signing for $1 million and Ricky still available.
I agree with all of that, especially the bolded portion with the red for emphatically agree with. Unless Ricky really and truly has absolutely nothing left in his tank.
Eh, kick the tires, no harm no foul really. Why is it that people are on this hair trigger state of overeaction to virtually anything that happens so far?
I don't want to replace an old RB with an older one. Having said that, I think callling Tiki "above average" when he was in the league was selling him short. He was twice the back that Ronnie ever was.
I fail to see the problem here. We worked a guy out who is smart and used to be a pretty talented player. And, as far as Ricky goes, maybe they don't expect him to play any better than he did last year (which was ok, but not great). Or maybe they are just done with him after that radio interview he did where he trashed his coach and quarterback. I've always been rather indifferent to Ricky. While his life changes seemed clearly to have been for the better, I always felt they came with a strong touch of self-righteousness. He has the attitude of someone who has seen the light and pities the rest of us, and he does a terrible job of hiding it. It got old real quick for me.
Sorry if it seemed like I was overreacting. I didn't mean to come across that way. I was just agreeing that I too will be confused if he is offered a contract with Ricky still available. I also put a disclaimer in there. Perhaps the red font was too much?
Keep him in mind in case one of the current crop gets injured BUT there best be an option C because Tiki has not played in 4 seasons. He is an injury waiting to happen.
I was watching NFL network the other night and they were talking about him and how he wanted to come back to the NFL. Saying that, they also said he went into a mental depression since he left the NFL because his wife left him and he missed football. He said he literally did absolutely nothing for an entire year. >>>I Wouldn't want 2 mentally insane people on my team...
Seriously??? Alone, on his own? You're not supposed to leave a man his age to wander off on his own!!!
Let the flames begin, but I am sick and tired of the Dolphins bringing in over the hill, washed up or marginal free agents with problems as stopgap solutions.
I posted last month in a thread on running backs they were going to look at him. Actually had a correct heads up tip about it. If they sign him it needs to be on a incentive basis.
Hmm... after some of the reactions, perhaps we shouldn't allow the media to see who we worked out and only let them know who we actually signed. That might help out the fans? Nah, probably not.
They could bring you in and try you out as the head cheerleader. As long as they don't sign you, I wouldn't give a ****.....
Salient point by Glazer. Even if the Dolphins don't sign him, say some other team does. Say that team is on our schedule. You get a look at just what he can do, in what shape his body is in before any 'football' got to him, preexisting injuries, etc. Information is power. It never hurts to bring guys in. We kick tires on dozens each year. Take a chill pill.
Most people don't think it's possible for me to like any move the Dolphins make this off season but the fact of the matter is when this possibility got brought up months ago, I was OK with it, and I stand by that. He'd probably come at the veteran's minimum, and that's if Daniel Thomas continues to look unimpressive in camp. I'd be on this one if I were them, just being honest. I think it's a move that has a chance to pay off pretty big dividends. He was dominant the last time he played. Miami employed Ricky Williams after a layoff, why not Tiki Barber?
Theisman told a funny story about playing on a field that also doubled as a rodeo ground, he dropped his mouthpiece on the turf, picked it up and put it back into his mouth..and wound up with hoof in mouth disease...
At this point in FA, Ireland needs to quit effing around and bring back Ricky. I'm beside myself by this news.
Really? A guy two years older than beloved Dolphin Ricky Williams? Are they trying to get the fanbase to hate them more?
If the workouts with other options don't go well and Ricky is still there (he most likely will be) then they will probably try to bring him back. It doesn't hurt to try other options, especially when there has been zero news about other teams being interested in Ricky.
I was NOT a Daniel Thomas fan when we drafted him. However, I thought he looked good in camp? You're saying he's been unimpressive though. What have you heard (I pretty much get my intel here on this site, and bias is rampant one way or another, so just curious)?
I understand your point. But Barber doesn't need 300 yard or so to be the #1 rusher in Dolphin history.
So this is more personal for you then. I can dig it. I wouldn't mind seeing him get that record, but what's best for the team comes first for me. I am not saying that I will agree with whom they sign or don't sign, but it's their careers on the line, not mine.
ATM it is hard to tell as he is a big back who doesn't run away from people, he runs them over and there has been none of that as of yet, really need preseason games to see what he has.
I still have yet to see a good bit of footage of him "trucking" defenders. I made that statement in another thread a while back that I don't see him "trucking" anyone in the NFL anytime soon. I just don't see the power comparison between him and Brown(when Brown first came into the league). JMHO.
We'll see, this is one of the dangers of trying to see what a player did in college, then trying to say he will do "X" in the pros you sort of have to see it for yourself so to speak.
I’m just the opposite. After the beating he took in 02 and 03 with over 800 touches and around 4,000 yards from scrimmage, I think he deserves a little more respect. But hey. It's only a game.
