I finished middle of the pack last year 7th of 12, predominantly due to my poor RB corps.

I drafted Ryan Mathews, Beanie Wells and Michael Bush as first three. None panned out.

Anyways, here are my keepers, 3 total.

    1. Peyton Manning
    2. Hakeem Nicks
    3. ??????????

Now, I just traded for Brandon Marshall, giving a 3rd round pick and exhchanging 4th rounders with the guy who won it all, so I lost a 3rd rounder but moved up 5 positions in round 4.

    Here are my current RBs:

    Ryan Matthews
    Beanie Wells
    Michael Bush
    LaGarret Blount
    M. Goodson (out of desperation)

Sooo, I have the following picks.

    #7
    #15
#18 (traded Larry Fitz last season for this 2nd rounder)
    #37

    A few questions:

    1. What RB should I keep, if any. I am torn between Wells and Matthews. Wells is given the offense with the trade of Hightower, but so has Matthews with Sproles to NO. I do want to try to get Bount as well, but not sure if he is worth a second - not sure he'll be around in the 4th. Remember it is a keeper so the draft pool isn't too big here.

    2. We've just implemented a 4th keeper for next year's offseason, a mandatory rookie. I'm thinking Ingram at #7 if he's available, or D.Thomas in the 4th if hes available. But, given that I already have two top 10 WRs, should I consider go with AJ Green or Julio Jones some time in the second to stack my WR corps?

I do need a good rookie to keep, so it might be worth it.

I want my first three picks to be all RBs. But I am tempted to take Green or Jones as well if Ingram is gone by 7th overall pick.

Sorry for the long read....just looking for some outside opinion.

EDIT: Just called off the trade for Marshall. Already got Nicks and Manning locked up, need room for a RB. That totally slipped my mind. Unless I keep Manning, Nicks, and Marshall and go all out on RB with first three picks.

FLEX? PPR? Why would Blount cost a 2nd round pick? Keep 3 players then draft(basically the 3 players kept are your first three picks) or is there a cost to keeping someone?

    No cost to keeping someone.

But I don't know if I should keep Beanie Wells, Matthews, or Marshall via a trade (Manning and Nicks are the first two keepers).

My two guaranteed keepers are Manning and Nicks. Need advice on the third.

I'd keep LaGarret Blount. Hes the unquestionable number 1 and doesn't have someone like Mike Tolbert around to steal touches or TDs. Also, Matthews has already had a toe and wrist issue and camp just started. Not to mention he came in out of shape. I used to be a huge Beanie believer but am now at the point that I need him to show me something before I use a high pick on him. To me Beanie ranks last out of the 3 and I also think hes the most likely one that you could always re-draft in the 2nd or 3rd round. I think Bush and Goodson don't even come into the conversation.

DO NOT DRAFT Ingram with your first pick! Unless you have already giving up on this year. There has to be another RB or WR that you feel won't be kept but would be a solid starter over him. Players like Shonn Greene, Mario Manningham, Jeremy Maclin, Jahvid Best, and DeAngelo Williams will most likely get thrown back and I would easily take them over Ingram this year. Even re-drafting Matthews with your first pick is a better move. Oh, and I'd take Antonio Gates over him but feel like he might be kept. BTW, I don't hate Ingram, just for this year the Saints have way too much in that backfield with Pierre Thomas and Sproles(who they just gave a decent deal to) for Ingram to be the man.

If you can get D. Thomas in the 4th then that should be your rookie keeper. Others to think about(in no order) would be: Mikel Leshoure, Ryan Williams, and Roy Helu.

I think Manning, Nicks, and Blount is a very good starting point.

    Thanks.

I really like Blount and was going to target him early anyway. May decide to keep him as you recommended.

Regarding Ingram, I think he will push Pierre Thomas for the starting role and could become a top 5 back in the league, worth the initial shortcomings as a long term investment project.

OR! I can take the trade for Marshall and keep Manning, Nicks, and Marshall and then taking three running backs with picks #7, #15, and #18. Depending on who is dropped back in the pool, I may take a flier on this idea.

I just think you have a better chance of re-drafting Marshall at 7 then Blount.

Hmm, that may be - I was hoping he'd be under the radar this year, but with no other back to threaten him, maybe not eh? Thanks for the advice.

    UPDATE:

I am in a 12 team 3 player keeper pool.

    I just traded a 2nd round pick for Lesean McCoy (I think that is a steal). I pick 7th overall. My four players of three I want to keep;

    1. Manning
    2. McCoy
    3. Blount
    4. Nicks

My question, do you think it will be less likely that someone takes Blount or Nicks with the first 6 picks? Keep in mind 36 players are already off the board, so it is like drafting in the 3rd or 4th round.

I am not sure if I should hold Nicks or Blount. Our protected list has to be submitted by Friday of this week.

I think Blount is more likely to fall than Nicks, personally.

I think so too. My prelim is Manning/McCoy/Nicks.

Next year we have to keep a rookie. I am hoping Ingram is there at 7th overall. I want him as a long term investment. As we have to keep a mandatory rookie next year (bringing total up to 4) I have the luxury of waiting for him to become the feature back. If he is gone, I am going to take Blount and Green or J.Jones in the second round if they're there (i have an extra 2nd - traded Fitz last year). If not, D.Thomas in the fourth is my contingency.

What site are you on, it's cool that you can trade future picks.

CBS, but I'm not sure if the software does it, we have a really cool commish.

He manually adds players under the name of "wolfpacks 2nd" and then any position, like QB, MIN.

I think how it is going to work is the computer won't alter the draft order, you just have to call in your pick to the person who has your pick, and then trade afterward.

To be honest, this is my first year in a keeper, and the second season, so this will be my first draft with trades. I will let you know how it goes though.

Actually, I just checked. Commish made custom draft order, so it is all taken care of.

So, yeah, we play on CBS, but I think it may be the premium version as certain portion of our buy in goes to commish for league fee.

Should I keep Vick or Peterson in a .4 PPR league? Only one keeper.

I'd say Peterson.. Mike Vick is a boom or bust guy this year, IMO.
