My daughter hopped on a plane to St. Louis, leaving me alone with a rent a car, because my truck got side-swiped by an 18 year old. So free rent a car, unlimited mileage, never had a Philly cheesesteak, I am driving 5.5 hours to get one....Anybody on here familiar with good ole South Philly?

Oh and looky here the Mets are playing a nightgame against the ATL.....I will go on the way back to Citi Field as well....

    But yeah so cheesesteaks??

yup Tony Luke has this sliced pork and rabe sandwich, and I LOVE rabe, most guineas do....that is right down my alley, I just cant fathom going there and not getting a cheesesteak however...maybe I will get the pork to go....

Just go to all 3 and get one from each. Best way to do it.

Or get a philly cheesesteak and a pork and rabe, cut them in two and eat 1 half of each and you still have the other halves to eat when you get home or on the road.

Another place to consider that I can recommend from personal experience is Sonny's steaks on Market Street (between 2nd and 3rd). Not as flashy or well-known, but they are the best testing cheesesteaks IMO. Pretty easy/convenient to get to compared to the other places too, whether or not you are just passing through the area. I go there all the time because it is convenient for me via public transit, never had a bad steak there.

Thanks for the tip on Frusco's, I haven't been there. What did you like about their steaks?

Only thing I didn't like about it is it isn't in South Philly, that being said, it is across the street from a pretty cool looking bar, so if your ever in the area...the bar/chessesteak combo will work well....

Perfect sample of steak to bread to cheese, fringing Genos barely had any meat in it (very disappointed in them)......not chopped like Pat's, the onions werent overly cooked, but cooked enough you know? The cheese was great as well....it was $6.40 as well.....you can't beat that...Geno's, Pat's and Tony's were 9, which is a rip off for that sandwich, but I get why it is that much.....

Also we went into Philly, beautiful city, I need to go back.....I was expecting NYC with the people, and cars, and it wasn't at all.....530-600 on a Saturday and it wasnt overly busy....reminds me of Rhode Island with the buildings...
