    Synopsis found here:

    Full blown one found here:

Interesting that Phil Livas is in the Returner mix, never watched him play or heard him really mentioned but from what I've read he is similar to the redskins' Brandon Banks./

Phil Merling ahead of Jared Odrick is the one surprise to me. Granted it is only the first chart.

Wasn't there a TE from Penn State that we signed or was that the thai food I ate?

I wonder if that's a motivational thing for Odrick. All indications, at least the ones I've seen, seemed to lead on that he'd been doing very well in camp. The main thing I found interesting, and I wonder if it's simply a typo from whomever loaded this thing onto the website, but I thought Vontae Davis was the LCB and Sean Smith was the RCB, not the other way around as they have it on the site.

I wonder how long Marc Colombo stays ahead of Nate Garner and Lydon Murtha. I'll be interested to see where Murtha moves to on the depth chart once Jake Long's back on it.

Yeah, that'd be a travesty with guys like Clyde Gates and Reggie Bush on the roster. Hopefully Bess being at the top is just a temporary, preseason thing.

That illustrates we still are or should be in the talent acquisition mode ... there are some very replaceable players listed imo ...

Interesting that Clay is listed as a fullback. I thought he was going to be more of a TE/H-Back type?

Sounds like he really, really, wants to get a large contract, to the point he scares franchises off.

Jimmy Wilson is the 9th corner. Odrick's behind Merling. And JT's behind Misi despite getting all the first team snaps.

Take it with a grain of salt guys. ;)

    1. Clyde Gates already ahead of Roberto Wallace and Marlon Moore on the depth chart is very telling to me. The Dolphins usually favor veterans, especially incumbents, over newcome rookies in these early depth charts. They must be feeling Gates a lot as a receiver.

    2. Reggie Bush not even listed among punt returners, not surprising. I've been saying, aside from ONE GAME where he went off on the Vikings in a circus atmosphere in the Saints' first return to the Superdome since Katrina, the other 59 games Reggie has a poor 6.3 yard average on punt returns. Now, you've also got to taken into account the Dolphins' wish to make him an "every down" back, whatever that means to them. That means no STs work for injury-prone Reggie.

    3. Davone Bess as the #1 kick returner looks to me like the vet-over-rookie thing. This is Clyde Gates' job to lose. Not that it matters a whole lot. About half of all kickoffs will end in a touchback in 2011, IMO.

    4. Trying not to read into Jimmy Wilson as the #9 CB but it's difficult. EVERY report has featured him as one of the lead attention grabbers in camp so far. This could just be because they want to move him to safety on the depth chart and haven't done so, yet.

    5. Nate Garner may be in for a position switch despite his #2 RT listing. But, if not, I hope they give him a legit chance to beat out the deadbeat Colombo.

    6. Phil Merling ahead of Jared Odrick (for now) smells like a reward. Heard he lost something like 28 pounds during the off season. Don't get comfortable, Phil. The best chance Merling has at keeping Odrick at his back would be to hire Jeff Gillooly to take a swat at Odrick's legs.

    7. Charles Clay listed as a fullback isn't surprising NOW, because we've been hearing camp reports about him being used mostly at fullback. But, color me pretty effing disappointed if this means heading into another year with the the terrible trio of Mickey Shuler, Jeron Mastrud and Dedrick Epps fighting for roster spots behind Anthony Fasano. I'm only barely resisting the urge to unleash a foul mess of curses at this regime.

They could be looking at Clay as a way to save a roster spot. If he can play FB and TE, then they can cut Polite and that would free up a spot elsewhere. They're always big on roster flexibility.

I wouldn't worry so much about 'going out first' per say, but his overall use.....absolutely.

They have no choice but to be smart with him (save for injuries).

Hell I'd prefer JT come off the bench anyway. Like an energy guy in the NBA.

    Good point. Forgot about that.

    Shades of Shawn Murphy.

I'm not reading too much into this yet. Sparano said last week Clay's learning three positions (fullback, H-back, tight end).

Right now they gotta list him somewhere. And I, too, think they'd like to have a more versatile player fill that roster spot. So they're getting him work there.

But I'd be shocked if he's playing solely fullback Week 1.

Hmm, just Berger at Center Depth?

I suspect they wish to keep Garner as the utility #6 Olineman, which is somewhat smart as he is versatile.
