Because he was here for three seasons and was clearly not improving. Also, he netted us two solid pieces for the bullpen.

Not really. Trading him was a smart move. There was no way we were going to be able to offer him a long term contract.

That's because we refused to buy out arbitration.

There is no single reason for the suckage this season.

It's a cluster**** of Hanley underperforming, Coghlan not hitting, Javy and Volstad ****ting the bed, and a lack of solid vets. You know, like Wes Helms, Omar Infante, and John Buck not making up for the young guys' shortcomings.

And stop it with Maybin. He was terrible here. They traded him for a big need, deal with it.

Yes, somehow. They have the best record in the NL since July began, IIRC. Doesn't matter, the playoffs are out of reach.

Boni with a 24 game hitting streak. He really has turned into a solid player and he isn't even playing at his natural position yet. If all goes well the rest of the season, then he should be the frontrunner for the 2nd base job next year.

To be fair, the Marlins don't seem to believe in natural positions, so I'm not sure he ever will. Though he's doing very well regardless. I hope this season isn't a fluke for him.

This is a fluke. This run is great, but it's a fluke. His BABIP is too high, and he's still striking out too much for a player with no power. On the bright side, he is walking more. Although, I don't know if that's because his plate discipline has increased and his eye got better, or the pitchers are throwing away and out of the strike zone intentionally.

However, while I think this run is a fluke, I still believe he's an above average player. If he can maintain an OBP of .340, while playing elite defense at second base and running like crazy on the basepaths, he's still an above average player.

Whatever it was it's over now. A nice pitcher's duel tonight for six innings. I guess it shouldn't really be a shock who blew it open.

I am shocked. The Marlins offense has been fire for a week now. Surprised they didn't score any runs.

It's a fluke but his BABIP has always been higher than it "should" be, presumably because speed kills. Regardless of what the pitchers are doing, the walk rate is up.

Looks like you found SFM. I've seen this post before :tongue2:

Time to sign Mike Stanton for life.

Nothing better than hitting a GS in extras IN NY.

Lmao, have always enjoyed NNy's work. Didn't mean to pass it off and make it sound like my work. Agreed with him thatthe run was a fluke, however I believe he can maintain a .350ish OBP rather than a .330ish, which he seems to believe. Wish he still posted at Marlinsbaseball.

He has no clue what's going on when he actually watches the games. All he has is his numbers. I am a stats guy and I love them, but they should be used as an addition to your eyes, not as a standalone metric.

Say what you will, but there's no denying that the Florida Marlins are the number one team when it comes to producing former-Marlins.

I'm watching the game last night, and take a look at the Braves infield... had DJ been there, I'd have thought it were a Marlins Alumni team.

I saw Kevin Millar and Mike Lowell as the two studio analysists on MLB network and thought that too.

The Florida Marlins = the 90's Expos.

Well, sure, if by "mouth" you mean "called Hanley out in the locker room for not being a leader commensurate with his level of talent".

If Loria and Samson don't like LoMo's demands for more from Hanley, they should have traded him.

Yeah, repeatedly calling out the best player on the team while he's hitting .215/.285/.414 since May makes him a leader. Not to mention he opened his mouth after John Mallee got fired. And then after Loria told him to zip it, he put up that stupid censored picture. And then called out Hanley again for getting hurt.

And now he's whining about his demotion instead of acting like the professional that he's demanding Hanley to be.

I'd rather him not get sent down, if only because we're out of it so who cares? But realistically, he didn't deserve to be up here. He should have been demoted a month ago. He's striking out more, walking a lot less and isn't making consistent contact. That's not even including his atrocious defense.

You read something in my post that wasn't there. Point out where I called LoMo a leader. Meanwhile, you act as if it's entirely unreasonable for him to expect more out of Hanley, especially considering Hanley is having a down year.

Also, we're going to defend the Marlins for making roster moves in a lost season based not on performance but on Twitter? Really? This is where we're at with this franchise? Okay. In a lost season you'd want your presumptive 2012 guys to get as much playing time as possible, but I guess Twitter cancels that out. :pity:

So many things are so bass ackwards with this team. Ozzie Guillen ain't walking through that door.

Uhh? You're now doing exactly what you just accused me of doing. Didn't I just post his sub-.700 OPS since May? That deserves to stay in the bigs? I only mentioned the twitter pic to serve as an example of his maturity issues. And yes, calling out the teams best player is stupid. Especially over non-issues. You should never air dirty laundry to the public, keep it in house.

Again, I'd rather him not get sent down, because we're done. Let him try and figure things out. But he ABSOLUTELY deserved a demotion based on his ON FIELD PERFORMANCE! .212/.285/.414 since May. That means he's been one of the worst everyday starters in baseball for most of the year. Only Infante was worse than LoMo on the Marlins but at least he brought the leather.

How is that a demotion based entirely on twitter again?

I think if you're wanting the guy to be a part of your future you leave him up. You can't just look at the bottom line stats when you're deciding whether a player 'deserves' to be in the majors or minors. Anybody think Jason Heyward is getting sent to the minors? His numbers would justify it. I think a franchise has to give some leeway to a player that it projects to be one of its stars of the future. Hanley's numbers suck this year and he's caused plenty of team problems, I don't see him getting sent to the minors.
