Not to mention if we did sign him, he would have to pass a physical, which by the sounds of it wouldn't happen.

Question is: will McK have an awakening after realizing he's on the verge of being a washed up nobody and decide that he no longer wants to be a massive piece of ****?

I'm not saying that's gonna happen, but it's possible. He might not contribute now, but if there are injuries mid-season, he could be ready to step in. It's not like we don't have the cap room for a risky insurance policy.

    That seems about right.

I weigh 180 and my cholesterol is 180...... so 1 mg of cholesterol per 1 pound of body weight. He's fine.

I was under the impression that Murtha wasn't a bad player, that he simply was a bit of a tweener who needed to fill out a beat, strengthen his base, and solidify his technique b/c the quickness and athleticism were already there.

This is the kind of **** that annoys me.

Front office wanted to see Lex; I wanted to see Lex; playoff hopes were gone; the team was injured and we were playing practice squad WRs/TEs, but the staff grips onto aging RBs like they're life support, never giving Lex a shot.

He had a chance to see playing time last year in order better prep him for this year (and to provide us & the staff a better indication of what to expect), and they totally don't take advantage of the opportunity. Brain fart move IMO.

Cholesterol is not in any way related to weight. It's like blood pressure, there is a healthy level no matter it you are 2 years old and way 20 lbs or 40 years old and 400 lbs. The guidelines per the mayo clinic say a health level is below 200 no matter your age or weight. Him being twice that is insanely unhealthy.

Frustrating, yes, but coaching staff was playing with their jobs on the line. Hard to fault them. Given that they still failed, it's even more frustrating. Let's hope they don't fail again.

I think he has everything you need from a physicality standpoint. He is big enough, strong enough, easily athletic enough and then some. He just needs reps to refine his technique and show he can stay off the injury report.

I think Todd was kidding. But you are totally correct though. I'm 290 lbs and my cholesterol has never tested out over 150. I get it checked every other year.

What you say may be closer to truth than not, but there was a reason McKinnie hasn't gotten any bites as a FA and had such good stats last year. Namely, at this point, he's about 400 pounds...not good, even for a LT...

I would have preferrred they chased a guard..... which is the position that really needed upgrading.
Yet they choose to move a strong RT to the Guard position and bring in a weak RT.
    Mind boggling.
Lets see if it works out.

We can agree right here on the RB issue.
They continue to do things that make you really scratch your head.
Instead of giving Lex time they didn't and now because of that they have to GAMBLE on him this season.
I keep hearing they will wait for a couple preseason games and then decide whether they will bring another back in.......
    Really?
    Who will be available then?
Idiots if this is true and even if it's not IMO.
Nothing they can do now can make me not feel the RB position was a complete and utter screw up by them this year unless Lex Hilliard turns into a consistent performer.

I wouldn't doubt that Murtha can be a better pass blocker than Carey with his athleticism. He gets injured pretty damn often though. I expect Ray Willis to see some time there.

I disagree. Carey was kind of hot/cold at RT. He also looked like he was playing with a Michelin tire around his waist- not in great shape. Bottom line for me is that when I saw him play the last couple of years it's been some good, some bad and a whole lot of average. Just my opinion. The word earlier in his career was that G was ultimately his best position. So the guy is a little overweight, sluggish in space at RT, makes too much money at RT, and would probably be a better Guard. So.... you move him to Guard. I have no problem with that move, and if Columbo can't get it done Willis probably can. Personally, I want to see more of Lydon Murtha on the right side once Long gets back. Also, unfortunately, John Jerry is looking more and more like a bust.

Anyway, imo the synergy is there for the Carey move, the logic, too. I'm not a real big fan of Sparano- he's ok, just seems more like a position coach guy to me, not an NFL head coach. Dude reminds me of the obnoxious red head from house wives of jersey- which is annoying. But this Carey move- no problem with it.

I'm actually excited to see Lex. If he's learned to run behind his pads better, he's a 240 pound wrecking ball IMO.

But I completely understand your concern and frustation b/c if I weren't excited about him, I'd be cussing this regime out big time for this risky move.

I like to eat and I like to weight lift. 290 and should be leaner, but good b/p, good cholesterol, good ticker. Oh yeah, I go 6'3 or so too, so it ain't like I'm carrying that much and only 5'5 or something. :)
I'm going to cut my grains consumption way down to try to drop a few though. I'd rather be 250-260.

Me too, but I guess we should have seen the writing on the wall, when we made sure and get Incog resigned for 3 yrs/9 mil before the lockout, we pretty well committed to him.

6'3 290..The legend continues..Listen if you wanna drop some weight, just tighten up your diet a bit, try to get a liquid breakfast in you like a good protein shake, eat your normal lunch, but mostly drop your carbs at nite, fire grill or bake your proteins, Steak, chicken, Fish or Pork, don't matter, combine those proteins with veges and salads and that's it..If you have a nite craving, just a small bowl of cereal with skim milk..

Do you have access to a grocery store in the jungles of thailand.?

    Bump.

Oh really? Do tell. Couldn't help but notice Bryant McKinnie has started all 7 games this year and is having himself a nice season. Not only that, but had a great game against James Harrison in WEEK 1.

Just wondering if any of you guys that defended Colombo over McKinnie in this thread still want to defend Ireland. If not -

So we have one thread bumped for Bradshaw vs Bush, and another thread bumped for Colombo vs Mckinnie.

I'm sure there's a Orton vs Henne thread somewhere I can bump up.

I bump threads where I've been way wrong too. I think I've earned the right to bump one where I was kinda sorta right. Really what happened is I was listening to McKinnie on Sirius NFL radio today and it just reminded me of this thread and how many people actually thought signing Colombo over McKinnie was a good idea. Half way through the season we already know how that's working out.

Sure appreciate how this is making me feel so much better, just more proof we have to get a GM just as badly as a new HC.

I just can't see someone taking a RT who was rated as one of the worst RT's in the league last year and has apparently failed to produce at a productive level the last few years, and saying well he's our best option at RT. Our offensive line has not been very good all year but Columbo is the worst of the rest. Vernon Carey is not anything like he once was but he is still a much better RT than Columbo.
Ireland and Sparano remind me of Dave Wannstedt and have a fault he was renowned for, and that is refusal to acknowledge a player is bad simply because they know him and like him.

You dug this up triumphantly, for what? To be wrong?

They both suck. Colombo has given up 3 sacks, 8 hits, and 22 pressures, and McKinnie 5 sacks, 6 hits, and 15 pressures. There's no serious distinction there, they are both not very good players, and trading McKinnie for Colombo would not be helping our situation.

    Were talking Mckinnie V. Colombo?

We shouldn't have been looking for a RT period.
They should have gone after a true Guard to fix the Guard position and left Carey at RT.
Instead they went searching for an old untalented RT in order to move an old and now slow of foot RT to Guard.
The strategy was absurd regardless of who they may have brought in at Rt.

Nate Garner should be starting somewhere, perhaps at RT, anyway.
