Just another example how this regime loves to micro manage everything I remember an x Dolphin saying Sparano loved to micro manage
What makes you think they were caught with their pants down? How can you even make that statement if you haven't seen the video?
Calls and signals. If you know what a call means, you can stop it. I wonder if sometimes people think things through before they go on a tirade.
Just another example of a fan trying to take a small deal and blow it up because they do not like Sparano
I think the fact that they made such a stupid media production out of it indicates that they were caught off guard. I am sorry guys, I have to side with CJ, they should have better security and it wouldn't have ended up on the web. That fact that its there at all speaks volumes.
A statement is now a production? I'm not sure how security would have made a difference? Would security guards confiscating phones from everyone taking pictures have been less of a deal?
Wait, let's see; so, during the games, when calls are made once, that's it—the other team now has the advantage. So what's your solution now, Most Ineffectual President of All Time?
Thank you for making my point for me. Even more reason to keep things hidden from public practices where scouts might be hiding. Secrecy goes a long way. If we show them our play book who's at fault? The person seeing it?? Sensitive things belong behind closed doors. Ever go to a casino? You can't get video there either, why?, they have these new things called security guards that prevent it.
So you're saying we should either -Ban use of phones at practices or -Not open practices to the public Am I correct in assuming this?
THAT'S IT!!! And then...and then, don't run any plays during games SO THEY DON'T STEAL OUR SIGNALS OR CALLS!!!!! Then we default games, but really WE WIN!!!
Of course I am not suggesting any of those things, and a certainly agree that posting videos of practice on the web is wrong and I don't like it at all. I remember when they first introduced the wildcat, it was very secretive and no one saw it coming at all. I was very proud of the surprise factor what we had accomplished with that, so what happened? I am merely suggesting that they should do a better job of concealing things that they show the general public. The government is great at it, why can't the Dolphins be?
In this day and age of people videoing everything from local news events to riots to the neighbor's distasteful (or otherwise) habits, competition amongst NFL teams is at an all time high and while it's unlikely that anything major can be discovered by a fan video from a practice, I'd be concerned as well. A video could highlight an injury that they might not want to get out. That would be my uneducated guess as something that would tilt the competitive edge ?? I'd also reiterate with fans the "No broadcast" rules as well. It's not just the Fins. Every team is worried about this stuff. I don't think it's frivolous at all...
Can't believe this is still being argued. Look, bottom line... Let the coach run the team as he wants. Respect his wishes and refrain from what he asks. If the Dolphins have a great successful season, he's genius If the Dolphins have a miserable season, then you can place all the blame on him because you let him run exactly the way he wanted. I'm SURE if our coach's name was Shula, Cowher, Bellichek, Landry, Lombardi, Brown, Hallas et al...and one of those coaches asked the same thing, there wouldn't be any discussion over it. You would be a loyal Dolphins fan and respect the wishes of your Super Bowl winning coach.
The practice is open to the public what's to stop a rival from just sending some person to the public practice to watch? I realize it's easier to get if it's on youtube but why are we acting like these practices are top secret or something? They are public. If you're that paranoid about it then make all of your practices private.
You could just call some friend in the area and ask him to go and then call you back later. How would the NFL ever find out about that? Really the point is that you can't open a practice to the public and then get all mad when the public acts like the public. Use some common sense, everything goes onto youtube, twitter, and facebook now. You could watch Saddam Hussein hanging on youtube within hours of it happening but the Dolphins didn't think that footage of their completely open to the public practices would end up there? Make the practices private if it's that's big of a concern.
Or they could ask fans not to put practices on youtube. This is such a tiny deal. If people loved this regime and they won the superbowl last year, no one would even mention it.
They wouldn't find out about it. But is an NFL team going to trust "some friend" to get the information they need? We aren't talking about anything obvious, and it most likely couldn't be picked up by an average fan.
If it was me I'd ask the 'friend' for specific things, not to go do a scouts job. 'Tell me how many times they practice X' or whatever. I just don't see why the practices being on Youtube matters.
And I really don't see why it matters that they politely asked attending fans to refrain from taping practice. It doesn't even have to make sense; it's their ground, their field, their bubble, their rules. And it's not like it's totally killing the fun of going there either. A small, simple, reasonable request and people get all riled up about it. Strange world.
So let me see if I can summarize what's going on in this thread. The Miami Dolphins organization makes it very clear that practices are not to be recorded. This has been a policy for well over a decade. A couple of fans post a 30 minute video online of Dolphins practice, the Dolphins ask for it to be taken down, and people are jumping all over the Dolphins for being in the wrong. At the same time we have people complaining that "we have bigger fish to fry" when clearly Jeff Ireland and Tony Sparano aren't the ones who went to the trouble to have the video removed and aren't the ones who issued the statement. The Dolphins have a PR department that I guarantee you handled the whole issue. People are claiming that the Dolphins made a huge deal out of it when all they did was have the video taken down and release a statement that video is not allowed at practices (once again a rule over a decade old.) And then of course you have the obligatory person who will use this as a soap box that this regime doesn't care about the fans and that Sparano doesn't know what he's doing, etc. *scratches head* I don't get it.
If the Dolphins were actually afraid that an opponent might use the tape to their advantage, they wouldn't make the practice public. You think someone who puts a sheet in front of his mouth so he can't be lip read would allow just about anyone in when he actually practices something important? I'd wager the guess that Miami simply doesn't want potential infractions out there for potentially overzealous league officials to see. It's one thing to have them come over unannounced and in person; it's a different thing to get caught on tape with anything that shouldn't be there.
Yes, because people always cheat within the rules. I agree with the long standing rule that videos shouldn't be taken (and certainly not posted on the web), but since people can't be trusted why give them anything top secret to see in the first place. They need to do a better job of keeping secret stuff secret, and this has been my point all along. Do you think they pulled off D-Day by sharing their plans with the Germans?? If you don't want people to see something - DON'T SHOW THEM!
Yes, how dare the general public see something put on for the general public- shame on the fans, its all their fault. Now lets activate our PR dept so they can make fools out of the team.
