How many yds you estimate we'd have gained? I am drawing a blank on a bad drop by Bess. I can only picture that sweet grab he made extended with one hand by the right sideline. edit: even if the catch gained no yards, it would have jumped the QBR to 107.29
So should we try to sign Patrick Turner? Respectfully, that kind of thinking has already gotten us in trouble and is the reason Atlanta gave up 13 first round draft picks for Julio Jones. Speed isn't overrated if you don't have any. If it were overrated, faster guys wouldn't get drafted higher than slower guys. Do you think Julio gets drafted #6 if he runs a 4.7? A group of possession receivers only means it'll take you more plays to reach the endzone, and with each successive play required, your chance of failure or mistakes increase as your margin for error decreases.
It was when Henne evaded the pressure and threw on the run. Should've been a 10 yard completion. Outside of the INT, the other incompletion was on the 3rd & 5 overthrow to Hartline where there was clearly miscommunication some where.
Knowing him for over ten years, I'm guessing mroz is being sarcastic. He can dish out the sarcasm with the best of them when he is on a roll.
Changing that drop to a ten yd catch and the Fasano ricochet from an int to a very conservative 5 yd catch and Henne has a 112 QBR. Funny how that little stat can change when you get a little help from your friends. I do like Fasano though. I'd say he makes that catch 90% of the time. Did it look to you like he didn't pick up the ball coming at him till it was about half way there and what with the short distance and velocity, maybe it handcuffed him a little?
Watching it I was cussing at Fasano but your right he catches most of those. Timeing and reps are needed which makes me wonder if Bush and Marshall shouldn't be out there getting aclaimated to the QB in real game time a little themself.
My guess would be we see Bush and Marshall a little the next game, maybe up to a half in the 3rd game, then a token appearance at the most in the 4th game.
We mean his pedestrian route running, his decent blocking, his inability to break the seams, his occasional missed assignments and his occasional drops combining to make him a mediocre TE at best... And the fact that the regime made no attempt whatsoever to upgrade the position. That part bothers most of us more than anything...they did nothing to upgrade the position and there were guys that would have been an upgrade...
My good and bad: Good: multiple formations - we seemed far more diverse and unpredictable and we actually threw to a back out of the backfield! aggressiveness - I was pleased that we went for that second TD. Last year that would have been a FG and a fist pump. Henne - Showed more mobility, pocket awareness, aggressiveness and bounce back than last year. IMO much of that is Daboll. The first pick was clearly not his fault.I would put the majority of the blame for the second one on him, though. I thought it was an aggressive mistake attacking cover-2 in one of it's weak spots. He just missed. Gates - I saw a player. Nothing looked too big for him. Odrick and Edds - I thought they were the best parts of last year's draft and we finally get to see them. Both looked like players. Pouncey, Wilson, Kearse - In addition to Gates, I thought they all at least flashed. Grigsby - Showed some instincts. If he can pass block, I expect him to back up Bush. Livas - Showed natural instincts, but also an alarming lack of balance. In my experience, the little guys who don't make it are the ones that lack the strength and balance to bounce off those bumps and keep going. Moore - I was never as upset as many here when we signed him. At a minimum a good back-up and I wouldn't panic if he had to start a few games due to injury. No injuries Bad: Run defense - We continued the trend of our run defense looking like crap whenever Crowder is out. Fasano and the other TEs- We simply don't have a receiving threat at the position. Run blocking - I saw no holes for Thomas. I can't wait for Thor to get back. Overall, I saw more good than bad. That's always easier when the score ends up in your favor, even when you know it's meaningless.
Based on this One game: Two stood out IMO AJ Edds looks like he's going to be a star........the guy was everywhere making solid tackles and in coverage(ah kinda brought back memories of Zack)....... Wilson very impressive looks like a quick solid tackler who for his first NFL game looked terrific Moore based on this one game should be the starter. You could just feel a stronger sense of the QB position with him. Better pocket presence and awareness of the WR's.... Accurate enough ....he was a pleasant surprise .... The bad things that I saw were the first team being run over that first Qtr............ And our DB's, same as last year, seem to generally give WR's way to much separation.....Could be an achillies heal and cause for major problems if not corrected......... RB's IMO were not near the caliber of Ronnie and Ricky and Bush will add something but I wish we had a more dependable work horse, which should not be Bush's roll.... Overall to be positive we have a nice group of very young players and with the proper coaching we could have a good team in a year or two........sorry not this year though.......
I should also add that Marshall, Bush and JT didn't play. IMO those three will have a huge impact on our season.
LMAO. On the second pick Henne stared Bess down, he never looked at any one else on the play. If Bess truly ran the wrong route, then MOVE to the next receiver in your progression OR THROW THE DAMN BALL AWAY. The play was a 2 receiver route, Henne never looked at the other WR (Hartline). He stared Bess down and tried to force it in... and thus got picked. So instead of minimizing a mistake ( aka the wrong route ) Henne maximizes it by turning it into an INT. Nice work! The excuses for Henne's bad decisions just keep on coming. By the end of the year people will have explained away all of his INT and just credit him for the TD's..... QB rating of infinity!!!!!! EDIT: Please don't say that by the time Henne knew it was the wrong route he had already thrown it. Watch that play on NFL.com. Watch it multiple times. Bess had turned up field and Henne threw it at the point. If it wasn't picked off the ball was going to the same spot Bess was. So that excuse doesn't fly. Either it wasn't the wrong route or he knew it was the wrong route and thought he could get the ball in there. Which was obviosly wrong. Zone defenders in the NFL don't drop to their spot and stand there like robots as they do in Madden. If their zone isn't threatened they will adjust. W/ only a 2 reciever route the shallow zone defender has no reason to guard an unthreated zone ( the other WR is all the way on the other side of the field and the TE's to that side stayed in to block ). So of course the defender is going to constrict the space on Bess, and make it a tough throw. Again if Bess ran the wrong route move to another WR or throw it away.
That's quite a lot of hyperbole there. Most every single person in this thread says it was Henne's fault on the 2nd interception (at least the majority of fault). If you want to complain about so many people explaining away his INTs, maybe you should find more than 2 people doing it in a thread where like 25 people have posted.
Monk, it doesn't really matter. If the OL doesn't markedly improve, no QB will do good back there. Even the hallowed Dan Marino would have struggled last night with the abomination of a game that first OL put on... And I guess the fact that Sparano was the one who said that Henne threw the ball correctly doesn't matter at all at least not to those who have already decided Henne is worthless...
I said "people" as in the plural; 2 or more. So my sentence is still correct. I can change to "some people" if that would make you feel better about.
Appeal to authority.. and one that is known to lie on top of that. Sprano says a lot of things that aren't true. So the correct throw was in an INT I guess I am not following how it was correct? EDIT: I want to clarify the "Sparano lies" part of comment. I didn't mean for it to be an Ad Homenim attack. What I meant by it is that it is widely known that Coaches don't throw players under the bus, and especially not in public. That is relevant to the discussion.
Unfortunately, I think Henne is always going to struggle with a bad throw here and there. The question is more if he can start to move the offense and be aggressive enough to outweigh the mistakes with scores of his own.
"Moore based on this one game should be the starter." Can't make it any clearer.........And your right I didn't watch Moore last year............but sadly I did see all of Chad Henne............
I'm laughing at how in a game where Henne makes just one significant mistake and several good plays and is missing three key offensive starters, the only thing that some people seem to see is the one mistake.
Something I noticed, and was really happy about, was when Columbo ( I think ) drew a false start early, Henne was visibly pissed off about it, and was getting in his ***. That's what I like to see.
Al13 I've seen enough of Henne to form MY own conclusions. It's not one game as you seem to want to think but rather going on 3 years, years you know 365 days in 1yr. Not saying that Moore is the answer to our QB problems for as you pointed out I haven't seen him enough but from the little I have seen I already would start to reevaluate the starting QB position and not because he's so good but rather IMO Henne is so bad.. hey time will tell and I hope I'm wrong and Chad surprises the heck out of me and half the fan base.......oh ya Henne's TD pass was a good pass.....also was against Falcons 2 string
*cough* Appeal to authority is when you quote an authority figure's opinion and state it as fact. Sparano knows the call. He didn't state an opinion. He stated a fact. But Henne did put the blame on himself. Let's use the terms correctly. *cough*
Halo effect. Can't give credit. Only detract. Immediately after that play, all I posted in the game thread was terrible throw. After the TD, I was happy as hell and posted about it. The forum was mysteriously "down" after the TD and my comment got posted, but some others' were mysteriously unposted.
What was really interesting about that play, was that it was after his 2nd INT. He didn't slink back. He didn't get scared because he wasn't playing as well at the time. He got all up in his *** for it, then ended up blasting a long TD a bit later. He's more confident now.
Hard to take any good from last night. The Dolphins starters got completely crushed by the Falcon starters. It was an eye-opener for me. This team has long way to go to be competitive, I think. Good thing it's only Week 1 of the preseason.
There seems to be a mob with tunnel vision that will not be happy until Henne is dangling by his neck lifeless. Granted I couldn't for the life of me argue that was a good decision. You have to take the good with the bad and the good better outweight the bad.
Mr. C you are so appreciated by me for not allowing things to get watered down on this board. You're the best...
Are you being sarcastic for some reason? All I did was offer the name of who the penalty got called on. Does giving the correct player name amount to needless minutiae? Wait till you notice me correcting misspelled player names. I'm totally anal about that. At least I have Stitches to help me with it. Murtha has been in the league a little less than Henne has. Colombo has been around for 10 yrs or so. Wonder if Henne would be so apt to jump on Colombo for something like that? Does it really matter?
2nd INT wasn't Henne's fault. Get real. That's a typical Chad Henne WTF throw. Good for a couple of those every game.
Let's see, 3 of our best offensive players never played. One of our better defensive players, who is our 2nd best pass rusher, never played. We never game planned for Atlanta. Sparano said we were going to treat it like practice. How can anyone draw much of a complete conclusion from what happened yesterday?
