    Well away from here
I made this video quickly just to show how Vernon Carey played the other night. But I also took the replay of Henne's first interception and put it in there as well. I know there has been some debate as to whether the ball was thrown behind Fasano or not. That clip is at :28 into the video. Also when you watch this, take note of the defender to the outside of Fasano playing between himself and Clay who is at the boundary. I think if Henne leads Fasano it going to be trouble in some fashion as the defender is just waiting for that ball to be thrown to the outside.

I disagree, the guy was learned much more towards clay. He could have made the tackle, however he was not in position to lay a huge hit on Fasano.

oh wow, had not seen that replay of the Fasano related pick... clear to see that that one should not be put on Henne...

im sorry any pass hits you in both hands and chest/shoulder should be caught... Fasano didn't even have to reach back...

I don't want to look at it Con, I was pissed watching the game, especially pissed watching the rewind.. I haven't been a fan for a while so what Iam seeing is not suprising, I just hope its a mental thing, and if so, Jake needs to get in his face..

Con..Point blank question??..does he have the skillset to be above average? or is he just to immobile to be above average.?? I mean the guy is only 30 and has had 7 months to heal, whats his deal man?

There is no reason to blame Henne for Fasano's drop.

I agree with that statement. This isn't a play that is either Fasano's or Henne's fault. Fasano should have caught the ball. Henne should have thrown a better pass.

Other then another thread turning into another whose fault was the INT thread, can we talk about how Vernon Carey played? I didn't get to see the game, and work blocks youtube so I can't watch the video. How did he look?

Who gives a ****? It was one int in a preseason game. The scrutiny that comes at Chad Henne is incredible. I would love to see someone start a thread discussing a missed assignment or tackle by Karlos Dansby or Yerimiah Bell.....lmao its preseason.......calm down bro.

(not to you Richard, to everyone wanting to hang henne cause of one mistake in a preseason game)

I don't think it was really that bad. He didn't distinguish himself by any means, but he didn't really **** the bed, either. He could have gotten more movement on the DT he drew on both those zone plays to the left side, but neither one the play made the tackle on and holding him and moving him down the line 1v1 isn't a loss.

The weird one is the Daniel Thomas dumpoff, but I think that's an illustration of the real major learning curve of the position. He's got to get set quicker in pass protection on the interior.

This is what I said on saturday, that it was possible henne threw it where he did intentionbally or maybe was slightly behind but intended not to lead him due the outside defender. Whether or not he did I am not an expert but that was my opinion

Carey looked OK, not bad for 8 practices. He sure won't let anyone through on pass protect like our recent RGs. Cool video, appreciate it.

I really liked the escape-ability Henne shows on that one drop by Bess.

either way this is supposed to be about Carey...

looks like on run plays he was crap... on pass plays he did well, only saw one pass play where he got pushed back...

interesting because the thought is the opposite with Carey, could it just be against outside guys who are mostly pass rushers he can maul them in the running game, but going against bigger DTs on the inside he isn't getting that push?

lol..I just realized the point of your thread...I thought it was about how Carey got abused in limited reps.

As far as the Fasano drop..Henne threw the ball under pressure, and got some zip on the pass, and I do think if the ball is thrown out in front of him he gets clocked. It was plenty accurate under those circumstances..

I was surprised by Henne's mobilit,y he looked smooth getting away from the defender and even better running for the first down.

Thanks for the video. Carey is my favorite player, very happy he did not jet when given the opportunity but its not surprising he stayed given his history in Miami. He look very good in pass, fine in run to me.

That plus Henne put some heat on it, Fasano's got to catch that

Carey doesn't look the same as he did a few years ago.

I don;t know if the back problems affected his lower body power, but he just doesn;t look like he generates much power from his base anymore. He plays top heavy and can't drive, nor stonewall guys with powerful stance and leg-drive. Just seems loose through his core and lower body and leads with his gut more than I recall.

He's not bad, mind you, but he is nowhere near a top OL talent anymore. I'd say average to above average.

(re: Henne. I still think Henne's arm hit the passrusher's arm on the follow-through, resulting in the pass not being slightly more in front of Fasano)

The front side defender, Dunta Robinson, was actually a good 7 yards away from Anthony Fasano at the moment he wrapped his hands around the ball.

He was a non-issue. Tight Ends are 270 pounds and work the middle of the field between the numbers for a reason. One thing they are commonly expected to do is catch a ball on an out like that in stride with their feet under them, and make the zone cornerback miss when he attempts to tackle them.

That possibility was precluded by the poor ball placement. Usually with that kind of ball placement you expect the result of the throw to just be a catch with no run after catch. Sometimes though, a poorly placed ball like that is going to result in an incompletion or even a tipped up interception. Those are the percentages.

Hopefully Chad Henne will hit the front shoulder more often.

And hopefully tight ends making 8 million dollars will catch footballs that hit them in the hands more often.

question on Carey, does anyone think he'll look better against a 34 front than a 43 front? I expect he will as the 34 defender will generally not be as quick/fast as a 43 guy. Good thing the bulk of our games come against 34 teams. 10 out of 16 I believe. With Philly, NY Giants, Oakland, Denver and Buffalo twice being the 43 teams.

Patriots are a 4-3 team now as well.

7 practices and 1 qtr of the preseason into this, a bit premature to really get a read on Carey at RG.

There were three running plays, with two he was decent to poor and one he was really good.

    Did pretty good on passing

I liked Carey in that vid. Like everyone else said, he only had 7 or 8 practices and it was 1 pre season game. Pass blocking was 10x better than any other RG we've had in recent years and the run blocking wasn't as bad as other linemen that night. I'll give up a little run blocking at RG to get a little more pass blocking there. I don't really plan on the Fins running between the tackles as much this year. Bush + Grigsby or Sheets should mean a lot more outside running plays.

7.75 is his contract according to what I just looked up. Not a year. But total.

and I am not just making a fuss to be a dick, I hope you know that, I just think when a QB hits a WR in the numbers and it's dropped he doesnt get to put an asterik next to an incompletion, so for the sake of discussion, I mentioned the other side of the equation.

When a wide receiver catches a ball and can't get any yards after the catch because of poor ball placement, he doesn't get to put an asterisk next to his yardage totals, either.

With that logic, Fasano should get an astrick to his yards everytime Henne throws a poorly thrown ball.

And Henne should get an asterick everytime Fasano misses a block, or runs the wrong route, etc etc. You need 2 to tango.

Does Henne get an asterisk for having to go an entire season with Dan Henning as his OC? In fact...if you ask me...he needs an asterisk next to 2010 - Season Stats....

    But then again...thats just me.

Was the throw a great pass? No. But it was without a doubt on his hands and chest. Not Henne's fault.
