Hard to believe that to be possible but, here goes. What if Henne has a VG year? Let's say 3500 yards, 25 TDs, 15 picks, and leads our team into the playoffs, winning one game, which many will say cannot be done. This is NOT a debate on if he will do this or, even if he can. It's something different.

IF something like this were to happen, Henne would be in high demand as a FA and be getting a big contract. He would have saved the coaches and FO's jobs, and we would really want to keep him.

However, the team benched him, wanted to replace him, many fans and media have ripped the hell out of him, and then there is the extreme of fans booing him "in practice." These are things that players remember. On to the question.

IF this were to happen, what would Henne tell us to do with our new contract, and what would you do if you were him?

    Honestly....

I think Henne's a pretty smart guy. I could see us offering him a very good contract for that type of year....or I believe we could franchise him...right?

I still would be drafting a QB in the upper rounds next season with that type of year, however.

In reality, there would be positive feelings that would have developed during the season for Henne so that would be included. Then he would have to consider that if he left he would have to learn a new system. I think that he is well aware of how much impact a bad OC can have on a QB and the typical fan's impression of him. I think at this point it would be impossible to figure out what would be the best move for him. I just hope that if that season happens (I think that's about what we'll get from him, except I predicted 20-22 TDs and 13-15 INTs) that we'll still draft that first round QB and then let him sit for at least a year. Then of course you'd have to factor the rookie QB into Henne's thinking about his long term future here.

I think Henne would ultimately realize that had the Dolphins not given him a chance to start this year, he never would have had the opportunity to put up that kind of season.

Also, yeah we would just franchise him.

If he could post that kind of yardage with that TD to INT ratio, I'd do a back flip, or at least try.

Henne could end up having a very good season, same as you describe. He could end up with a mid 70s QBR again too. Either is possible. What would be the odds? 50/50? If he does have a good year, he is going to be expensive to resign next off season. You know what would be a bold move on Ireland's part and really take a set of brass balls, would be extend Henne for 4 yrs or so right now, this month. Oh, Ireland would be second guessed till the cows come home, that is for sure, but if Henne does have a good season and our QB future appears set because of it, then Ireland is gonna come out of it smelling like a rose and look like one smart dude for extending Henne before his value goes up. If after extending Henne now, what is the worst that could happen? He has a repeat of 2009/10 and the fan base clamors for a new QB and it appears Ireland wasted money. It wouldn't be any worse than the money they wasted signing two injury prone offensive linemen that were neither one able to give us even one season starting 16 games.

If he had a year like you described above, i think the FO gives him a well deserved extention, with a contract/guarnteed money in the range of that type of production and Henne would sign.

QB's know they are important to a teams success, but taking off because of the bad fan/media response to his early ups and downs isn't worth the risk. If he took off after having a good year he would have to learn and succeed in a whole new system with new players around him. He would know his key to success in Miami with our offense, playbook, offensive players and coaches.

Some guys would take off for spite, but its a risky move in a young career that I dont' think Henne would do. He would look to be the franchise guy in MIA, sign the contract and be comfortable with the tools and personnel around him to have continued success.

I'm also sure if he does have a vg year, the fans would be on his bandwagon in a second.

Franchise him, AND still draft a QB high. Henne would have earned the right to play one more year & prove he's the real deal, and if he doesn't prove that again, then we've got potentially his replacement on the sidelines learning our system.

If we actually start finding a way to develop QB's I would draft one every year, turn them into something and trade them away for draft picks the way the Pats do it. One of these guys becomes our next franchise QB, the rest earn us some additional draft picks if we are smart.

IF Henne were to have that kind of year, we would be picking late, with the best QB's long gone. I could not see us using a first rounder.

Good point. I say sign him up long-term and he's our guy. End of QB search. THE END.....and I'm a firm Henne doubter. But I want to be proven wrong so badly!!!!!!!!

A franchise tag is a possibility but, the one the Colts put on this year was for over $23M for the year. That would be tuff to absorb.

IMO that would be unwise. That would lock Ireland to Henne as well. Now the fanbase and Cowder may be happy at that, but for Ireland who may have a shot to stay if Sparano is cut loose. Plus what is teh message you send, Channing a player favorite was cut while Henne who has not performed well yet with any consistency gets rewarded. That could divide even more.

I believe no matter what with teh talent at qb in 12, you have to take one no matter what. not only that IMO we should do whatever we can to get one of the big three luck/landry/Barkely

I also believe it is better than 50% chance henne is done here after this year no matter what, either by or choice if he does poorly, or he takes that season and makes a fresh start on a team where he feels he wont have to look over his back. JMO

With Ireland and Sparano's jobs on the line, I can't see Ross signing off on that. Also, Henne has yet to earn that deal.

IF Ireland were to do that MC, his "brass balls" would be the size of a small planet. LOL

If he pulls that kind of a season, We're not going to get Luck, Jones, or Barkeley, so we would resign him immediately. He would resign too. Hes been through quite a lot here, getting that extension from us would mean a lot to him im sure.

And with this new offense the yards and the TDs should be around those marks. Its up to him to keep those INTs down...

Not without moving up, no but we will have the ammo to move up. My opinion is we do it as long as the core we built is kept. The chance for elite is there in 12, we have passed too many times. Cannot keep from making the investment forever.

I am firmly a Henne supporter, lol people can tell you. I just see something special in Luck and Barkely. Landry jones I am slightly less familiar with but he is also a special qb and could end the best of teh bunch. But I l really like Barkely, but I wwant to see him this year

If Henne has that kind of season we have to assume we're a 10+ win team. We would most likely be in the mid-to-late 20s drafting order. We wouldn't be able to trade up that high. It'd require our first, our second, and hell maybe even Henne Himself, which would negate the purpose of the thread. Unless the Browns want to be ******ed again and give up a top 5 pick for absolutly nothing.

I don't think he'd get a big contract or anything like that if he was re-signed today.

Then again Arizona gave $63M to a mediocre quarterback, so I could be wrong...

I can't imagine giving him any contract now. Everyone, fans, the team, coaches, FO, and Henne himself, are at the mercy of what he does this season.

IF he is as good, as I thought he could be, this coming season, it will be very interesting to see what he does. He could very well tell us to Shove It, and would anyone blame him?

Franchising Henne truly would be an INSANE idea. Heck, Ryan Fitzpatrick had 3,000 yards, 23 TD, 15 int and was 22nd in QB ranking. Why would any SANE team commit 20 to 25% of their salary cap to one average player?

If we extended him now, maybe it would be a deal of like 5 yrs/25 mil, 12 mil guaranteed. If we wait, and he does something like 24 TD passes, 12 ints, 4000+ yds, it may take a Kolb kind of deal to get him signed. Also, if he did that well, we'd picking in the mid 20s of the draft or so, and if we did not want to pay that kind of money, we also would be too far down to get one of the top rookies in the draft. Probably be able to get Weeden though.

If I were him, I would hold a press conference and tell Todd thanks for all the support, and tell Ozzy to kiss my grits...then sign with whomever pays more, including Miami.
