As much as it pains me to say it as a Nebraska fan as well as a Dolphin fan, Lydon Murtha=big dumb animal, even Callahan and Dennis Wagner couldn't fix that trainwreck. I don't see how he is still in the league tbqh. Personally, I hope that he can get out of his own way, and is successful
i think AJ Edds looked good again tonight, he whiffed on one tackle that turned out to be a long gain, but was present on coverage and also on special teams, not bad for his 2nd game ever
The bad: I blew my motherboard at the end of the 1st quarter. So if you noticed me disappearing out of Medi's chat.....that was the exact moment my motherboard decided to fry.
As a defense it's hard to think of a way to match up with an offense that has an excellent pass catching RB, a top WR, a solid #2, a fantastic slot WR, and a solid TE or a H-Back on the field at all times. There's just too much to go with. My feeling is that Gates will likely replace Hartline at some point during the year as the flanker with Marshall the split end. That lineup will be extremely hard to match up with given the over the top speed, short threat, intermediate threat, receiving threat out of the backfield, and a fast H-Back that can get up the field in a hurry. Teams don't exactly carry seven quality defensive backs. To stop Clay, Gates, Bush, Marshall, and Bess you need three to four safeties that can cover or you're begging to get burnt in some aspect. You need someone to spy on Henne or he'll do what he did today. That's a three man rush. How many teams that can beat you with a three-man rush?
I'm worried about using this performance against a bad Carolina Panthers team as a barometer for anything. Of course Henne et al looked good, the Panthers couldn't generate any pressure on the QB nor could they stop the run. Any starting NFL QB would look good under last night's conditions. Same thing for the RBs. I was very happy for win, preseason or no preseason. I was pumped to see a team that wasn't throwing up all over itself, but I'm not any more optimistic for the season.
Not a hater, but he really needs to get some touch on his deep throws! he has such a strong arm he should really be able to use it better.
I can add a couple of things... Bad - Nice offensive performance but it was against the Panthers...a team we should have beaten... Bad - Fasano...again... Although he rebounded from the dropped pass (again), he continues to be average.... Good - OL play....the OL actually played like we expected them to play and aside from a few penalties (Murtha), their performance was nice... This will dictate more about Henne's success than anything else as the season progresses. Improved, but not great - S play...everyone they ran out there. Again, TEs running loose in the middle of the field. Especially early in the game... Good - No boo birds out there tonight...none that I could hear on TV, of course I live near Charlotte and got their feed of the game. The NFL replay may be different....
Hmmm..I was impressed with Daniel Thomas. Honestly his feet looked quicker to me than Ronnie's did and he cut back into some running lanes where the play wasn't designated to go..which I always though was an issue with Ronnie and his sub-par vision.
Not a Henne hater just rather a Henne doubter........... Consistency, yes, and down the field accuracy, two plays Wr's beat the DB's and were open long....(possibly for TD's) But Gotta give credit were it is due, Henne besides those two passes did well making reads and putting the balls were they needed to be........Did show growth and it's been a while since seeing any. Hope it's the start of a new and improved trend. Now the starting offensive line played very well and gave Henne a lot of time.....Don't think he will be able to sit in the pocket like that in very many games and he will have to make quicker decisions and how he handles that is still to be seen, IMO. RB"s beside the goaline series our starting OL did very good again and opened holes for actually all the RB's..... Don't know how much of our Offensive success was due to a dominating OL in giving Henne time and opening holes.. But Henne and the RB's took advantage of the opportunities and you have to give them credit. If Henne could make those deep throws a little more consistent I'd have a little more confidence in him......... But there was significant improvement and I hope he is able to continue his development........ Carolina usually has had a tuff D line but we made them look sad.... gold star to the starting OL......
Ill give Henne a golf clap for last nights performance. Doesnt mean much at all, but damn I will take ANYTHING!
So basically what you're saying is that we looked for a...what did you call it....4 win team at best?
Hey guys, Henne had bad throws against ATL, oh man he sucks. This week? We need to be cautious, it's only preseason. Let's at least be consistent.
I'm here Paul. Sorry that my wife and children kept me away. Had I known you were waiting with baited breath for my opinion I would have ignored them. Henne played well. He looked comfortable, moved around a bit and was accurate on the underneath stuff. He also was only 15-24 with no TDs. So I'm not going nuts over it like I didn't go nuts over last week. Nor will I go nuts next week. I want to see weekly consistency during the regular season. Nothing Ive seen thus far in TC or preseason has changed my opinion or expectations for this season. I am waiting to be proved otherwise
One thing I'd like to note about Henne tonight is how he was able to improvise when a play broke down. Taking off running a couple of times, and the throw to Fasano when the high snap threw off whatever timing would have been involved. I don't recall seeing much of that last year and it was a really positive sign. And even though he didn't connect on a couple of deep passes, the willingness we seem to have now to stretch the field will make it much tougher for defenses to squat on our routes like they have in the past. Color me enthusiastic.

I don't care that it was the Panthers. To be considered an above average team, you have to beat up on the teams you're better than. The Patriots do it and a lot of people grope and fondle them till the cows come home.
Don't you know you're supposed to ignore your family when the Dolphins are playing? Even if it's only preseason and it's only the lowly and intellectually challenged Carolina Panthers. Thanks for posting
It was also to a degree the Panthers back-ups, at least in terms of our offense. They left their starting offense out longer.
I concur on the RB comment .Bush has an injury history .Thomas is unproven and had trouble getting into the end zone ...jumped prematurely. I think Ronnie would have made that TD. Sheets,Grisby and Hilliard are backups at best IMO. I wish we would have kept one of the R and R tandem. Now I think we will have to search the waiver wires or trade for a veteran . Those who hoped Matt Moore would challenge Henne for the starting job got a dose of reality. Ditto with Livas who looked very fragile . I was impressed with the added range Kevin Burnett adds to the LB core.He has good coverage skills. Overall the offense looks more exciting and potent .Unlike the Henning years this team will be fun to watch win or lose .
And he would probably be fairly spot on. Having said that, it does seem as if there are some tangible improvements in Henne's game. He does seem to be able to feel the rush better, and his mobility looks like it has taken a nice step forward. It also seems as if he is going through his progressions a bit more instinctively, although not always making the best read. However, the sample size is small, and he is indeed notoriously inconsistent in many phases of his game. He's played very well before only to s**t the bed later on.
Thats funny you say those guys are back ups at best...but do you know what the "R and R tandem" are doing right now on other teams?...uh, backing up.
Well if you live outside the moment for a few seconds you might remember Ronnie and Ricky were starters for the majority of their careers (4-6-8 years)...... And at least might be considered better replacement for Thomas if he doesn't achieve of gets injured instead of "these guys" who have never been starters and actually even first time backups... I mean you'd rather have these guys as back ups instead of Ronnie or Ricky ????
Ricky and Ronnie are washed up man. I'm happier going with new blood. Time to move on from the dead weight. You'll get over it.
ricky maybe yes, but ronnie with his injury history to have as injury emergency i dont know, it was time to move on
Whoever would of thought, that on opposite sides of any Dolphin argument, that Killer is considered the optimist?
Nope to this one, I was there and the attendance was higher than normal fir preseason, esp with a big chance of rain. Lower bowl was packed til mid 3q, upper had a lot of empty seat but I would say half occupied or so. Dont know the official attendance, but my unofficial wag would be 60-75 percent capacity. Mid 3q there were still enough fans in their seats that the section next to me kept starting the wave and it looked like a wave instead of just random people standing up. --- - Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Exactly, one can be optimistic and a realist at the same time, if a player is not good he is not good, that does not mean one "hates" that player. Cobbs, Crowder, they were not "bad" players they just probably needed to be replaced with guys who brought more to the table.
You know.... I liked what I saw out of Sheets last night.....as well...I liked what I saw from Grigsby as far as blocking. In my mind.....I know Grigsby can run.....its much more important for me to see that he can pick up a blitzer.....
Henne was good, but uh, let's see consistency before jumping on any bandwagon. He's been good before against the Packers, Raiders, Jets, Patriots, Titans the past 2 years only to throw multiple picks against the bills, lions, browns. It was still the Panthers, the worse team in the NFL last year and they even rested some starters. Do it against the Patriots on MNF, then I could see some improvements. Good performance by Henne though. I hope he plays like that through the season. (Except with TDs and connections to our WRs on some of those long bombs)
For those of you criticing Daniel Thomas on the goal line: the OL was not opening up holes and I had a damn good view since my seat was behind the endzone. Why he didnt choose to go over the top and extend the ball is a different story.
