No complaints but, our D was only on the field for 21 plays. Dansby and Burnett had 4 solo tackles each.

The O more than earned the rest of the night off. Should the D continue playing to at least break a sweat?

Nah, take that as a sign and get them the hell out of there. When you push your luck it usually runs out and in devastating ways.

I'd rather they not get any work all season. ;)

Carolina didn't get to our side of the field until the final play of the half.

To follow up, they didn't reach our side of the field until the fourth quarter. :)

Would rather not have Miami's D1 against Carolina's O2...might get pretty lackadaisical out there.

I'd rather not see another Jake Long situation having someone like Dansby or Wake get hurt.

I don't think it really matters. The D in both preseason games is very vanilla compared to what we'll see come week 1 against New England. Looked like a lot of Cover 4 and Cover 2 shell out there. Not many blitzes and the stunts they used are run by everyone. Sean Smith didn't move into the slot or to nickel/dime safety, nothing too fancy. I think Chris Clemons came on a blitz once, and that was about as complicated as it got (I believe it was on the play Burnett tipped the pass away).

I think Tampa Bay will give our D a good test next week. And for that matter, we'll see what our offense is really like. I mean, Carolina was pretty basic themselves and they didn't even have Jon Beason playing.

Buccaneers are a good football team. Perfect dress rehearsal for us...

SB, I think its good from a mental standpoint and chemistry, building trust between the units is key, we gave'em the night off, they need to put that in their mental roladex.

Agree with OP, first thing is we had absolutely no pass rush. This is very concerning because if we cannot rush the passer plays downfield aren't gonna happen. Still happy we have Vontae Davis and Sean Smith. Jimmy Wilson got roasted, and I don't foresee him ever being a starting corner, rather a solid safety.

I dunno, there was some stuff there. When Dansby flushed Newton out of the pocket, they overloaded that side with Jason Taylor and Cameron Wake. At one point I think there was a play where both safeties came down into the box and looked like there was a cover-3 look with Dansby ending up with the middle third of the field.

At a certain point you're throwing stuff against the wall to see if it sticks, too .

the only thing is another possible 3 dropped INT´s , Burnett and i think it was sean smith who dropped the hail mary at the end of the first half, altthough they teach to knock it down, would have been nice to come up with it and restelli in the 2nd half dropped that deep ball too, it was a good defensive effort without doing much of sacking, intercepting or forcing fumbles

RE: pass rush, Matt Williamson rates the Panthers as his #3 offensive line. So they're not necessarily a bad unit there.

We didn't do a helluva lot, but when we did blitz it tended to get there.

I also think it could have been a case of 'contain the mobile QB' where guys simply weren't teeing off like they would against a more stationary guy. They didn't really have a lot of guys who could threaten us beyond the TE's.

Next week we'll see a 6-6, 260-pound QB who can sling it and run with it. He hasn't really found his stride yet this preseason, but he was a Top 10 type player last season.

I think that was the play I noticed Chris Clemons blitzing. It was an interesting look as Burnett and Dansby started off showing a Double A-gap blitz and backed off when Bell and Clemons came down. Didn't notice if Bell blitzed, but Clemons certainly did.

Freeman is what he is a sort of Ben R clone, Josh Johnson is a good Qb as well so our #2's and #3's will have a nice test heading into cut down week.

There is only so much you can do with 21 snaps. Burnett looked lost last week (understandable), and found this week. JT looked far from over the hill. On a negative side, we still had trouble in covering the TE's.

I missed the game because it was not shown in my area, but from the highlights that I saw I thought the offense was much faster to the punch. I like the RB speed and the opened dimension of throwing out of the backfield which didn't exist last year. Bush is fast enough to give LB's fits all year that way. I think that will be a powerful weapon moving forward. I just hope they don't go to the well once too often and get him hurt.

My only point of concern over the highlights that I saw during the last two games is the defensive backfield. I couldn't tell if they are caught in the wrong coverage or if they are just not adjusting properly. Also, I think their open field reading and tackling needs some work. I wonder of FS and SS will continue to be an issue this season. Any thoughts?

Moving VD to the right side was a good move, as he showed last night in run support. It seems like a small move but, does take a bit of time to adjust. Adjusting to Burnett and Edds also takes a bit of time. The other thing is that we are not putting much pressure on the QB. We all know that this vanilla will change flavors very soon.

The most important thing to consider is the D's playing time. It was on the field for a series in game #1, and 21 snaps in game #2. Our D will be just fine, and have a good shot at being #1 in the NFL. If I'm Wake, I am chomping at the bit to play and nail a QB. It will happen.
