I havent been on the boards much because we are in the middle of two a days at work but I did get a chance to watch the replay today and wanted to share some things I'm excited about... especially since I have been voicing displeasure over our passing game and game preparation since Coach Sparano took over. I'm very happy to say that the Panthers game gave me exactly what I have been asking for. I'll briefly list some of those things and hope to see them again in our upcoming games.

    - We made a effort (a well planned effort in fact) to run plays that got the ball into the hands of our PLAYMAKERS (Bush, Marshall, etc) early in the action and didn't come out trying to be tricky or mislead the opposition in terms of what our intentions were. We simply got the ball to Marshall and Bush and let them make plays. I think the fans loved it, I know I did.

    - We were very effective on our check downs, thanks largely to Bush and those check downs turned into some very nice chunk yardage plays and not just 3-5 yard pickups.

    - Henne didn't play perfect, but I have absolutely nothing negative to say about his game. I'm very pleased and hoping for more! Same goes for the coaches that got him ready.

    - I liked the flow of our play selection. I especially appreciated as a coach myself that we came in and took things the defense was giving us, and then when they forced a checkdown we made a big play and took some more. That Dolfans is great offensive football.

    - We used routes that enhanced our ability to pick up YAC. This was my favorite thing from the Panthers game. We saw Slants, seams, drags, and even some bombs to keep them honest. We even ran a Wheel route on one play deep in their territory and Bush was wide open for a TD up the Right sideline. I believe we threw elsewhere for a nice completion though. Anyhow, our route choices on our calls, and or the way we have taught the read progression on the plays called, combined for a great game for us on run after the catch. I'm very excited about the way Daboll called the game and the routes/ players he emphasized.

    - Despite the great passing game and clear evidence of possible big TD play potential, we also put together a nice run game that Thomas, Bush, and Sheets looked good in. I love what I see in Thomas and Bush, and I tell you what, watch out for Kory Sheets. That is one HUNGRY football player right now and he is running the ball with explosion and looking like he has some great burst. Love those 3 in Miami right now.

    - One last thing I thought I'd mention is how impressed I am with WR Marlon Moore. I came into this off season thinking he was on his way out, but I just don't see how we can let him go.

Nice, I tend to think Marlon M won't make the final 53 though and tend to think Sheets will have to show more then he has shown.

Agree about the routes being of the *gasp* downhill variety, not the stick in the mud stuff we had been running.

I have a hunch that we might keep both Clay and Moore and the surprise cuts may be Hillard and Wallace. I think Clay could do a little of what Hillard does and offer a bit more all around.
I like Wallace, but not at the expense of Moore.

Thanks Coach Mike! I always appreciate your analysis on the games. Good to hear it from the perspective of an experienced coach.

When I look at the possibles for the 53 man roster, based on the players we have today, I see both Clay and Hilliard having room on the roster. Considering we usually keep 3 TEs, and I counted Clay there, and we usually keep 4 RBs and 1 FB, and I'd count Hilliard as one of the 4 RBs.
It does appear Wallace and Moore are competing for one roster spot though, unless we keep 6 WRs and do not allocate a spot for a return specialist like Livas.

Not seeing it, but then again, been wrong before...

I just see Wallace offering a better portfolio then Moore, Gates does Moore's job, Wallace plays ST and is the fillin Wr.

I'd like to see Phil Livas get a bit more use in the passing game as he offers more big play potential all around but can he play Wr in the NFL?

This rule may have them banking on safe returns and touchbacks.

It would be terrible, but not out of the realm of possibility for this team.

    Like you input coach...

Many as I see that we played a 2-14 team the other night and is the reason that we looked better on Offense...

But still I see that the Panthers sole reason for being 2-14 last year was not just due to their D... Their Offense did not score more than 14 points in 11 games last year... They were dead last on points per game...total yards per game and rushing yards per game...

The Cats D was not spectacular by any means, but to say that our O last night looked good becuse they were 2-14 last year, is not a complete picture...

Moore plays STs too. That alone will not be a reason to keep either one over the other imo.

Moore has played well on special teams and I believe it was Moore that got great seperation from his man in the middle of field when Gates was overthrown by Matt Moore.

Moore made the right throw but Marlon Moore was wide open and could have scored on that play too.

He could have really made it interesting if he had not dropped that ball , I think Tony has made it known he is liking Marlon's contribution minus the drop so far.

Well, my pov is both MM and Wallace have played this preseason, Wallace has done a bit more so far, but the 3rd preseason game is the one where the "real" team supposedly plays and things will be much clearer afterwards.

Moore is fast, he does get open, he had the same problem with drops last yr.

    Ding Dong Henning's Gone!!!

I was just in total amazement watching our offense against the Panthers. It was so nice knowing that they could score on any play. Instead of cheering for 1st downs and small gains, I was waiting for TD's and big plays. If we fail this year, at least we will go down trying to make plays and trying to win the game, not trying not to lose the game. I have been waiting all offseason through all the "why did we hire a guy that had a worse offense than us" to actually see how this guy calls plays and it was great to watch. I just went from really excited about this season to OMFG I can't wait!!! Not predicting a superbown by any means, but at least I won't need a 5 hour energy to stay awake while or offense is on the field.

Beck always needed time. Throwing him out to the wolves that year with a very very poor OL and not getting starter or even back up snaps was rediculous. That entire season was rediculous.

Our offense looked like it was running in quicksand with Henning running things. It was just plain old predictable and boring. At least now it looks like we can do different things with Daboll's system. I couldn't believe I was watching Miami lining up in a 5-receiver set against Carolina. Reggie Bush gives us a lot of options and will ensure that defenses have to account for him every time he is out there. It looks like Marshall and our other receivers are moving well. I think we are looking much better and that's enough for me right now.

It was just a preseason game.

But what a different team w000000t! I believe it might be exiting to be a Dolphin fan this year. May our playmakers stay healthy now.

All I want is exciting offensive football. This stuff is entertainment after all, I want to be entertained. Figuring out a way to win 10-12 games would be ideal.

Even in the Atlanta game (where we struggled), from the very first series.....you could see that this was very different approach to offense. From the personnel groupings alone to the routes being run. I liked what I saw.

Friday night we saw what happens when you add a little hot sauce to the list of ingredients. This is an aggressive, fan-friendly offense if properly executed. Very much a departure from the previous one. Whatever we might have lost in experience appears to have been made up for in contemporaneity, and perhaps common sense.

I honestly will be surprised if Lou Polite makes this team. It looks like we're a 3-WR/1-RB base offense now, and they envision a more versatile player (Clay) occupying that roster spot.

Polite's blocking fell off a cliff in 2010 e.g. he no longer possesses a specialty to keep him on, even in a complimentary role. He'd need to be a John Connor type to hold a spot IMO.

It may be 3 WR/1 RB/1 TE but the question is does Fasano become that last guy? At this point I say it is Fasano and not Clay.

I mentioned this previously , Sparano said this camp that if we need to throw it 40 times to win we will , if we need to throw it 50 times to win we will... that to me was telling.

He either really had an epiphany or was told he had had one imo. Henne threw 24 times in the first half .... now would coach prefer to be able to get 5 plus yards a pop running the ball every time they did? sure ... we all would love to have a power , dictating running game , but not where we keep beating our heads against the wall if it isn't working. You NEED to be able to pass and score from that in this league and it seems the coaching staff and talent now are meshing in that regard.

Here's an interesting question. Who are teams most likely going to take out against Miami in their nickel, the SOLB or RILB? We play predominantly 3-4 teams throughout this year.

Just food for thought but the numbers that Chad Henne is putting up are the same ones he would have put up last year if Miami had continued to use aggressive play calling, with 3 WR sets last years. Daboll basically read thephins.com and decide hey I've got a decent QB if I play him right.

To me, the biggest difference between a Henning offense and a Daboll offense in its simplist terms is that players like Bush and Marshall used to catch the ball running back towards the QB in Henning's scheme. In Dabolls scheme they are catching the ball running away from the QB.
