Heller played for us a couple of seasons in the mid 90s under Shula. Actually, 93, 94 and part of 95.

I really don't get why Garner isn't being allowed to challenge for one of the starter spots. Here's a guy who has shown he can play every spot on the line. I know you love to have versatility in your backups...but not letting a guy challenge for a starting spot because of such seems asanine.

Heller was a mauler and a scrapper...he was just a hair past his prime when we got him but he was "serviceable" and he was nasty..that always scores points with me.

Who are you calling Thor? Thor was a Norse god with long blonde hair and a big hammer. Which Dolphin is that?
Never mind, I guess it is your nickname for Jake. Jake Long that is, not DolfanJake.

Because making Garner a Starter is like losing 2 Olinemen.

His hair is genetically predisposed to align itself into a crew cut position, and he had a medicine ball on a rope, not mljinor, Sparano would not let him bring his war hammer onto the practice field.

Small wonder, those were the Dark Years when Miami turned on the Don, I've blotted them out of my memory.

lol. Damn. that's harsh. I haven't seen enough of him play to really know, actually. It seemed like everyone on the boards was talking the kid up the last couple years.

    What happened?

I think what Pads means is if Garner starts and one of the other 4 get hurt, and he has to move over and another reserve take his spot, then two guys are at new positions.

YES! Now allow Garner, Colombo, and Murtha to challenge for the final RT spot please.

That is a very good comparison, and I'd just like to add that push isn't everything when run blocking. If you got a big ol' mauler with strong hands who can lock on, sustain and wall off, the end result can be just as effective, especially at OT.

We went to the playoffs in 1994 and 1995. I think we may have even won a game during the '94 playoffs. We were a missed 48 yd FG away from playing in the AFC Championship in 1994.

2 late season swoons Mr C, the missed FG (vs the Chargers iirc?) and we started out 4-0 in 95 and then fell apart, which begat the "game has passed him by" stuff, along with going crazy in FA that yr and people were ready to run the Don out of town on a rail.

Which is sort of a odd connection Shula has with Sparano, late in the yr and we have tended to fall apart for a long time, Shula, JJ, Wanny, Sparano.

Had to google it and came upon the awfulness.

What has happened with Sparano the last 2 yrs is really no different then what has happened the last 15 yrs, which is kind of a different perspective.

Excellent news and the best thing that has happened to this team in a few weeks. This improves the offense immediately by 2 fold.

Seriously when I first got a modem, it was a 4800 and I couldn't believe it 6 months later when I could double the speed and get a 9600.......I thought there is no way this PC fun could get better & faster. Now I am doing 20mbps which is about 4100 times faster ?

Long, Pouncy, Incognito, Garner, Carey. That's what I had in mind a while back.

IMO, They should just move Carey back to RT and shut up about it.

Heck, had an old 33 mhz laptop that ran Internet Explorer 3 on a 28k dialup that was almost as fast as Cable Internet simply because it would only render Text, could not handle javascript and flash player or images, I had text and a reply button and that was it and that thing flew.

Yeah, I had an old sewing machine Compaq with the drop top keyboard, 7" B&W screen and dual 5 1/4 in. floppys, all built in..no HD...didn't have internet at that time...I actually had to read a newspaper and write my comments to them....

    But times have changed...

Things have changed though....until about 5 yrs ago, most 757 aircraft were still run by 386 processors. I was shocked when I found out I had a more powerful computer on my desk than what ran the systems of the aircraft...

Seriously, I'd still take Shues even in today's game. Not nostalgic, just realistic.

You know they have alluded to rotating players in the past. If we have a bunch of mediocre players, at least they'll be fresh mediocre players. I think, secretly, Sparano thinks that is the future of football.

I agree with you completely on that. One can be an effective run blocker with no "push" and just walling off the defender. That seems to be particularly true in zone blocking schemes. The great run blocking lines under Alex Gibbs had few, if any, power players who could really push defenders off the line. But they had guys who were quick enough to get into position and wall off the defender. Colombo is not the classic zone blocking OL due to his slow feet, but I think you can get away with that at OT much better than at C or OG.

Colombo does have a huge wingspan which certainly helps him, however you also have to be able to be more athletic for cut blocks and pulling and handling speed rushers, he always seems a step away from disaster.

We beat KC in the Wild-card game, it was Joe Montana's last game he ever played. By far, the best first half of football I've ever seen. Montana vs Marino, both guys were on fire that first half.
