I'd give a bag of Doritos and smile. And not a big toothy grin...more of a corner of the mouth smirk sort of thing. Also, not a big bag of Doritos, more like the really small bag that comes in a vending machine. And I'd only do that if I didn't have anything better to do, like punch myself in the face or staple my nuts to my thigh.
The problem with this is that you're buying the proverbial pig in a poke; you don't know what you're getting in Pryor until you give up that pick. Does he have his head on straight now? Is he ready to function as a member of society, of real life, not a privileged kid in the insular world of CFB? Or is he just saying all the right things? He has the best agent in the business, and I'm sure that Rosenhaus is advising him well. If you're considering spending your 4th rounder on Pryor, you have to consider that a 4th is the new 3rd, given that it's your first pick on the third day of the draft, when you regroup and rearrange your board after it's picked over during the first 3 rounds. If you're considering a 5th, 6th or 7th, consider that it is at least possible to find good players late, and given the risks of choosing Pryor you might be better off taking a shot at the next Jimmy Wilson or Legarrette Blount. Just choosing theoretically here, we can toss off any answer and it won't have consequences. But if you're really the guy who has to make this decision in real life and live with the result, there's a hell of a lot that goes into it.
It's pretty funny hearing the turned in a TE idea, guys he is 230 pounds. You can't ask a dude to gain 30 pounds and maintain speed. Gates is 6'4 260. He'd get tossed around like a rag doll. You can turn a qb into a returner, a wide receiver, a halfback, heck even cornerback or safety but having him learn to block and run route good along with adding 25 pounds at the minimum is way to much to ask a college qb. For people worried about maturity I know someone that went to school with him and he was at a party with him and Pryor came in and said " who wants to f*ck a superstar" lol
For me, thats the nail on the head, Pryor as a TE (only IF) is exactly the next Jimmy Wilson and LeGarrette Blount and a 5th could be reasonable for that. As GM, would need my scouts in the know to have serious conviction that he could be TE.
It's funny, The more I sit and think about it, the further away from this guy I want to be. I wasn't opposed to a late round flyer originally, but I don't think I would want to invest that much anymore.
I don't get this. A player who has had off field problems and has no NFL position that he's played at on a major competitive level is somehow worth more than the potential value a 7th rd pick could be in even just a trade up scenario? He's raw at any NFL viable position, and not raw like he needs a year to develop, but raw like metal ore is to a car engine.
I think Pryor surrounding himself with the right people is the best thing he can do, so I see Rosenhaus as a positive. Gruden is a big fan of his for whatever that is worth. When it comes to 5th, 6th, or 7th are trying to hit a diamond in the rough or a fringe player that can help out the team on ST for a couple of years. Pryor does have the physical tools of players found in the 1st round. Not too many 6'6", 238lb, 4.36 guys can be found in the 5th and beyond. The two guys you referred to, Wilson and Blount (was undrafted btw), did have 1st or 2nd round pojections on them until character problems derailed their path. Sounds like Pryor. I haven't done the research yet but how many of the 5th, 6th or 7th rounders are still on the same team 4 years later...I would imagine its really low. Heck, for Miami 1st round picks have been a gamble, excluding this regime. And 2nd round picks have been thrown out like the garbage. Whether Pryor will pan out? But I do believe he has to have as much or more talent than any player we will have a shot at taking in the 5th or beyond next year. I totally agree with your last statement. As a GM this a pick than can make you look really bad if Pryor turns out to make more news off the field than on it. One concern I would have is can he contribute in any way this year once he gets activated. Can he even play on ST?
Can you really blame him for that though? I mean, the b.s. a guy has to go through to pick up a woman. He just cut to the quick.
Given the late date, I'm not sure anyone outside of Oakland will truly give up anything earlier than a 6th. You're really taking a risk having to carry him on your 53 man roster with little experience, and you could very well lose your draft pick if you attempt to practice squad him and someone signs him later on.
Now, is a 3rd in the supplemental draft equivalent of a 2nd in the 2012 draft? Or did they just give up their 3rd in the 2012 draft?
Maybe we put a sixth or something. Wild guess we take a shot on King or McAdoo with a sixth or seventh and it works out.
A 3rd in the supplemental is the equivalent of the same round pick in the next subsequent April draft.
i think the rest will be UDFA´s can´t imagine anyone is giving up any picks for the rest of these guys
Would it even matter what he says when you ask him that? What reason has he given to make you believe that he'd be telling the truth?
The Patriots, Ravens and Eagles are usually examples of "the rich get richer" when it comes to front office moves, but the Raiders are consistently the best example of "the dumb get dumber".
The Raidaaaaaaaaaz. Third rounder. 18th in that round. Fairly safe to assume miami didnt put in a bid in the third.
And because of the nature of the Supplemental Draft and how they do it round by round, we'll probably never know if they were going to submit a bid at all. Even if someone leaks it and says one way or another, you can't trust it.
if it really would have been as a TE project i wouldn´t have mind a 6th or 7th rounder for him, but a 3rd is...well too much
It's a shame that the Raiders got him. If he was going to turn out to be a good NFL player he probably won't now. I'd haev given up a 5th. For all of his character concerns the guy accepted money, cars and sold his autograph. So what...Granted it's against NCAA rules, but the NCAA is corrupt and FOS and I say ****'em.
you do realize there are people out there who are pretty good at asking questions and even better at reading the person answering them, right? If the person knows what they're doing and/or has a gift for reading people, then Pryor doesn't have to "make" you believe anything, especially since words are only a portion of communication. that allows you say Mike Williams (TB) isn't a bad apple and is a first round player, that Greg Little isn't a character risk and will go in the 2nd round, that Mike Williams (Seattle) will have a breakout season despite being out of the league, that Dez Bryant won't be the risk people worried about (that his only issue is temporary immaturity), that LeGarette Blount's punch was the best thing that happened to him, that Cam Wake will be a Pro Bowler, and that Michael Crabtree will be a headache for the team drafting him, and that Michael Oher will be the best tackle in his class bc he doesn't have the issues that the general public thinks he has.
There are also people who get paid handsomely to make certain that their clients don't say the wrong thing. Drew Rosenhaus is king of his profession, and he's advising Pryor. You can bet anything and not lose that if Pryor had a bad, stupid or harmful thought in his head, that thought would not make out of his mouth during that evaluation process.
I still don't see why such a big deal is being made out of his "character" problems. Am I missing something? All he did was accept a car and money for his autograph, right? He may be immature, but I'm willing to bet that 99% of all high profile College players take something while in school.
What about the other 93% of communication that has nothing to do with the words coming out of his mouth? Just because nothing stupid or harmful comes out, it doesn't mean you can't tell if he's being dishonest.
I'm not so sure it's as much what he did as it is his overall character. From accounts, he's apparently very selfish, immature and carries around a sense of entitlement. Supposedly wasn't very respected by his teammates also.
