Because the competition is better? I'm not sure how knowing what play the offense is going to run doesn't help their chances of winning. Are you suggesting that winning 19 games in a row isn't any easier if you know the other teams' plays?
And if the Steelers were stealing signals, and knew which plays the offense was running, I would say the same thing about them. I'm not sure how people can look at what they did and not see how it provided an advantage. There might have been teams that knew about it. But unless you can show me that every team in the league knew about it, and every single team did it, I will still consider it cheating.
Q: Did you ever steal signals? JJ: Oh in a heartbeat, yeah. Yes I did. Q: Via video, Jimmy? Or no? JJ: Oh yeah, I did it with video and so did a lot of other teams in the league. Just to make sure that you could study it and take your time, because you’re going to play the other team the second time around. But a lot of coaches did it, this was commonplace. Q: But did you do it by taping the signal caller? JJ: Yeah. Wait. Didn't JJ coach Miami?
And coaches change signals for a reason...this is why its not a big deal. Coaches change signals, give dummy signals, the same way QBs give dummy calls. Blue! Blue! 42! is not the same the second time around.
You're timing is off on this one. The Patriots got caught in the first game of 2007 against the Jets, which was the year they went 18-1. so no, it didn't help them win 18 games.
I'm not sure they are changing signals at halftime. Either way, if this were true, then NE wouldn't have been doing it.
I'm not sure what this proves? That Miami may have cheated? When did I say otherwise? We also know JJ used to go through opposing teams trash cans looking for stuff. We also know that Saban mic'd up defensive lineman against the Pats to steal their line calls.
"The pot calling the kettle black" is an idiom used to accuse a person of being guilty of the very thing they are pointing out. This may or may not be hypocritical or a contradiction.
It wouldn't surprise me if they swapped some signals at half. Its really not as big of a deal as you make it out to be. By the time NE goes through the tape after the game, the signals change for the next meeting.
The HC meets with the team for about 4-5 minutes and the coordinators meet with players for about 2 minutes. There's no way they have that much time.
All it takes is a couple of assistants to decipher the signals at half, then relay them to the coach during the 2nd half, as they watch from above.
This is Belichick we are talking about. I'm sure he taught them what to look for, and made them practice until they got pretty good at it. He's probably the best coach of our generation, I would think he could pull this off better than anyone.
After the Patriots got caught it was revealed that coaches saw them and waved. If the opposing coaches didn't seem to care that they were doing it then how much of an advantage could it be?
You're talking about matching up signals from a video camera at half-time. You really think that's easy to do?
you accused the patriots of cheating when one of your former coaches admitted to the same thing, which in turn, wait for it... makes the dolphins cheaters as well.
Yes, but discussion was about Patriots video taping, not writing on notepad. Even if they were to decipher tape and then write down, I don't think it would be big help.
No, I don't think it is easy to do. That's why Belichick was able to take advantage of it, while nobody else could.
So that would make him a better coach rather than a cheater. If everyone else is doing it and can't figure out how to incorporate it into the game but one person can, he must be cheating.
so when an offensive lineman intentionally holds a player, he's cheating because he broke the rules. unless you are playing against the dolphins, the steelers, the cowboys (those names because their former head coaches admitted to doing the same exact thing. ), then its being competitive. Bottom line is, you hate the Patriots and their success. If they had video taped and went 6-10, you wouldn't care.
Here I always regarded cheating as, well, cheating. There are good cheaters and bad cheaters. Bill is a good cheater. That is all. I don't see what is so hard to understand.
Hard to say how often those teams cheated. But there certainly have been instances when both teams have cheated, I'm sure. When did I ever say I hate the Patriots?
Hard to say how often the Patriots cheated. i know you never said you hated them, but you're making them your scapegoat. you have an excuse for your team cheating, the steelers cheating, probability of the cowboys cheating, but no excuse for the pats doing what numerous other teams also do. it just brings their championships into question..
who cares about cheating......you guys understand Brady is going to literally stick his fist in Miami's *** on the 12th??
Scapegoat for what? I've said in this thread that they are one of the best teams of our era. When did I ever make any excuses for anyone cheating?
Brady tonight 11-19 118 yards and 2 tds.... 1st TD drive......64 yards in 2:08 mins 2nd TD drive....46 yards in 3:08 mins lol he seems rusty, I was expecting under 2 minutes for each...
NE has looked great so far this preseason. If Miami comes out flat or unprepared, that Monday night could be ugly.
