At least someone gets it. All I care about is the team perspective. The press would be unreal and as they are always trying to make a story we would see things like "Henne likes Pesi, Tebow likes Coke. Tebow should start." Seriously this is a team that looks to be finally finding an identity (although many will laugh) and the potential upside of Tebow at this time is not worth the price of what it may cost the team. The Packers, Pats, Eagles & even the Jets can afford to take a chance as it will only be "adding talent" not "adding to a QB controversy" followed by the "team source says locker room split" story.

EXACTLY what I was thinking. Which makes me wonder why the Jags won't give up a third rounder for him? I'd be happy with a Merling for Tebow trade, for the record.

Someone should let the Broncos know that! Wonder why they want to trade him?

And I agree Tebow would be better than any 3rd string QB on our team. I can't imagine carrying 4 QBs. If anything it would allow for letting Polite go and creating room to carry a return specialist like Livas.

But then I look at the cost. Is it worth all the controversy he brings even if he never steps on the field? Is it worth risking the confidence of a young QB that this regime has essentially pinned their hopes of keeping their job beyond this year on by pulling him in the red zone? I vote NO...not that I have ever been given a vote. damn it!

Here's the part of the contract about the $6.3 million bonus.

"$6.275 million due 29 days after start of 2011 league year. Typically season starts March 1, but it's written this way in case work stoppage delays start of season. (Salaries from 2011-14 reduced to offset advance)"

That's the key part of it, what I highlighted. The total contract value that Miami would be on the hook for is still $8.42 million from 2011 thru 2014, with the potential for a $1.5 million bonus if he gets 45% snap participation in any year. However, the bulk of those salaries are fully guaranteed and what happens on September 2nd is those guaranteed salaries get reduced to minimums, while the excess gets scraped off and paid up front.

So Miami would be in effect "signing" Tim Tebow to a 4 year, $8.4 million contract with $6.3 million in guaranteed money, and a $1.5 million incentive bonus should he play 45% of snaps or more in any year.

That's a decent deal. Absolutely. That's an excellent deal for Miami. Don't wait for Denver to cut him, you won't get him. He'll get picked up off waivers.

I don't understand the fear. There is going to be a QB controversy if Henne struggles regardless of who the backups are. Why not bring a talented guy on? At the very least he's better than Devlin

Well, not for a #3 Qb, but it would be if it is for a Red Zone Td producer, even then Henne is going to have to start punching it into the EZ himself, Tebow and really the Wildcat, is a sort of Qb pacifier for him, takes all of the pressure off and he can be just a 20 yd line Qb.

They don't want to pay him big money to ride pine. That's a common reason players get traded. Teams don't want to eat bonus money if they can avoid it.

The Denver Post's Woody Paige on the Tebow situation:

"I think John Fox and John Elway are trying to sidestep Tim Tebow being the future quarterback of the Broncos. So, plain and simple, why don't the Broncos trade Tebow?

    — Matthew Deall, New Orleans

Matthew, the team will not trade him because:

    (A) Tebow still has a potential significant upside.

    (B) Kyle Orton and Brady Quinn are unrestricted free agents at the end of the season, and the Broncos may not want to sign either, or both, particularly Quinn if he doesn't play this year, since he may want to go somewhere else, and Tebow would be the only quarterback left under contract.

    (C) Tebow, in his three games, last year outplayed Orton, with the same running game and defense that everyone talks about that restricted Orton from being the greatest quarterback since Johnny Unitas; Tebow, in his first start and with a limited playbook, had the Broncos within seven points in Oakland, after Oakland had destroyed Orton, who was awful, and the Broncos in Denver; Tebow beat the Texans with a late touchdown run, and although people claimed the Texans were no good, they were still in the playoff chase at that point, and Tebow played San Diego closer than Orton did, in the finale.

    (D) The Broncos, as I believe and have written, will be 4-8 after 12 games (despite what e-mailers have written, I didn't say they would finish with a 4-12 record), and Tebow would start then against Chicago or Minnesota, so Broncos could find out what they have in him again.

    (E) Injuries could happen, and the quarterback switch could change during season or

    (F) Orton plays ineffectively early, and, as I have written, he makes a switch during games or

Tim Tebow. (John Leyba, The Denver Post)

during the season, as he has before.

    (F) There is little interest, if any, for Tebow at the salary he makes, so why trade him for nothing when you've already paid most of his salary for the year, and you probably won't have to pay the guarantee based on him playing 45 percent of the plays?

    (G) Who knows how Quinn would play if he got in there, based on his previous starts and the fact that he looked good against scrubs in the exhibition, and threw an interception at the goal line?

    (H) All sorts of other things could happen. That's why."

Just taking a look at the numbers for Tebow in the red zone and Henne in the red zone...

    Tebow...3 of 10, 30% comp, 23 yards, 3 TD, 1 int, 39.6 QB rating

    Henne...26 of 46, 56.5% comp, 202 yards, 10 TD, 2 int, 89 QB rating

Of course Tebow does give a much better run option than Henne (although Henne is looking nimble on his feet this preseason). Also, Henne had a piss poor year last year and looks much improved this preseason.

I just don't see how taking the ball out of Henne's hands in the red zone and messing with his confidence will be beneficial to this team in the long run. Most QBs build confidence, numbers and fan support putting the ball in the end zone. Talk about creating a QB controversy. Tebow's numbers would be over-inflated due to playing only in the red zone. And pulling Henne from playing in the red zone could turn a 90 QB rating into a 50 QB rating. Like playing psychological terrorism with your starting QB! Disaster...just a bad idea imo.

Aside from the fact that Miami's staff coached Tim Tebow at the Senior Bowl, I find it interesting that Tebow shares agent with Head Coach Tony Sparano. Their agent, Jimmy Sexton.

LOL seriously need to change the chant to "we want manning" or "we want brees" or something to that affect. Sub in Rivers, Roethlisberger, Rodgers, Bradford, as needed

you are such a UF homer! :)

Jets have Sanchez-Brunell-McElroy...not sure where he fits.

Tebow is the type of guy you want to marry your sister...not sure he has shown he can be a pro QB yet though Ill admit he did exceed my expectations last year and played better then orton.

For a player that is almost twice as good as the next best QB when it comes to putting the ball in the end zone when having a "goal to go" situation apparently, the team just spent a 1st round pick on only "one" year prior and could be the heir apparent at QB as Orton and Quinn are FA after this season Tebow's contract would be a bargain.

Unless of course, the Broncos who have been able to observe Tebow up close don't think he has as much potential as some fans think he does.

I'd like him as a developmental guy. My concern is that his popularity would have fans and media calling for him the minute Henne had a bad game.

It could create more instability at QB instead of more stability.

Conversely, at least we'd have a prospect to develop.

I do NOT care what Tebow's delivery motion looks like

the only thing that matters is : Can he make plays and get the ball there on time and with good accuracy?

That's all that matters. I don't care if he throws the ball underhanded, with his eyes closed. As long as he can throw the ball and win games.

Let the kid be a FOOTBALL player already...

Well, I got no use personally for uber religious bible thumpers and their superstitions, but from what I've heard Tebow isn't an in your face type about his beliefs in an invisible man in the sky. So, heck yeah bring him aboard for any reasonable compensation, let him be #3 QB, backup RB, H Back, #3 TE, Kick returner, anywhere we could use him. I see him mostly though as a modern day Tom Matte or Dan Reeves, both successful college QBs who became primarily RBs in the NFL. Matte played emergency QB for Don Shula and the Colts late one season after Johnny U and Gary Cuozzo both suffered season ending injuries. Matte wore a play list on his wrist like many QBs do now. Shula's idea and probably the first time a QB ever did that, as the play list wrist band is now on display in the HOF. The Colts beat the Rams with Matte then lost a playoff game in overtime to the Packers 13-10, when the officials erroneously ruled Don Chandler's FG good, when the TV cameras showed it outside the uprights.
Matte and Reeves were solid RBs and both very effective on the HB pass. This is how I primarily see Tebow.

I see they got Kevin Vickerson as a starter. After all these years, I'm happy for him that his perseverance is paying off. I thought he had talent when we had him, just always seemed buried on the depth chart.

That's true? Is it a personal dislike? Most QBs who are competing for one job are at least cordial in a professional way even if they don't hang out together off the field.

I think that it's more of a question of Orton being a jerk. Of course they're competing for a job, that's the nature of the professional game and business. But if every LB, DE, OT, RB- whatever- position guy refused to speak to his competitors for a postion who are, nontheless his TEAMMATES- you'd have a very unpleasant mess on your hands. The notion that it's ok for Orton to not speak to Tebow because they're competing for the same job strikes me as pathetic.

I disagree with your assessment of Tebow as merely a Reeves/Matte guy. Imo that's a tremendous disservice to Tebow. The guy is being hammered because he has an odd delivery. I challenge anyone- go back to the UF and Denver tape and look at the throws, the effectiveness, accuracy and velocity of the throws. I'm sure that there are plenty of guys Working at Wendy's McDonalds, Pizza Hut and Burger King who can throw the football and have pretty deliveries. That's not really what it's about. If you want to see truly crappy deliveries take a look at Danny Wuerffell or Frank Costa. Maybe Josh Heupel, too, if I recall correctly- that guy had no chance, couldn't throw. Those guys I get, their arms were not good enough, their deliveries horrendous. Tebow's delivery isn't nearly as bad.

I'll predict this right now: Tebow will have a better pro QB career than Cam Newton. There, I said it.

    Dead on.

There are rapists, dog murderers, and all around bad people in the NFL and Tim Tebow is more hated than them? That is a sign of how messed up we are as a society.

I'm Jewish and don't agree with a lot of Tebow's Christian views. But the guy comes from a 100% sincere place and I absolutely respect him regardless of whether or not you think he can be an NFL quarterback. The guys I hate are people like Roethlesberger who thinks (or I guess should say knows) he can get away with literally raping college girls in bathrooms because he can throw a ball. Seriously is the disconnect here not appalling?

I'm no big Newton fan either, so you'll get no argument there from me.

Tebow may turn out to be more, but comparing his potential to Matte or Reeves is hardly an insult. Both were All NFL 1st or 2nd team, and/or All Conference, and/or Pro Bowlers at least once in their careers.

I have watched a little of Tebow from last season, and Mike McCoy appeared to tailor a lot of specific plays for Tebow. Against Houston he was throwing mainly WR screens early, but they did have their timing down very well on them and the execution was better than most I can recall especially when they threw for like 3 straight WR screen plays and they kept working.

Points understood, but Matte and Reeves were Running Backs who dabbled at Quarterback. Tebow is a Quarterback who is so physically dominant and such a hard runner that people talk about FB, TE ,HB because he's, at least according to Jon Gruden, the strongest and most physical Quarterback ever. He's changing the perception of what a Quarterback can be. But he's a Quarterback- Matte and Reeves were Running Backs who dabbled at Quarterback. Big difference in my opinion.

I think Rex knows how important Brad Smith was to their success in several close games last year, and a playmaker from a scoring standpoint like Tebow would be a great addition and fill in that missing piece. I wouldnt want Tebow anywhere near the JETS.
