Don't hate me for this but this game looks like the same old script: Fumbles, Penalties, Horrible open field tackling, Sub par offensive line, DB's getting caught out of position and unable to adapt, Settling for FG's because we got shut down in the RedZone, and so on. While we did show some flashes on offense its not enough to satisfy the teams issues, or justify the entire offensive overhaul that we just made. The way we played tonight makes you honestly wonder what they have been working on, and what kind of season we are in store for. Sporano covered by saying that this was "fixable", if that's the case why didn't they fix it yet? I only hope we improve or it will be a long season.

If anyone hates you for telling the truth, it shouldn't matter. You are correct. We all saw it. To what you have pointed out, you have to add that we have little depth. When the second and third stringers were playing, it was the same old story: the other team could execute and we could not. They could do fundamental football things and make plays that we could not. One can stay with the excuses of the practice time lost during the lockout, the youth of the personnel and the new offense, or blame it on the front office and coaching staff, either because of failure to evaluate or obtain talent or failure to coach it correctly. To me, if we suck like this during the regular season, I will have to conclude that Sparano and Ireland are not the ones to bring us back to being competitive.

Some of us have seen this coming for a while. Even though the Dolphins lost, I feel a little sense of satisfaction.

    God help us Sept 12th.

At least you didn't have to complain about Henne's play.

    I mentioned Henne ?!?!?

So far Henne has been better than expected, but it is still the pre-season. Lets see what happens on Sept 12th, when Belichek gets to mess with him.

No but my point was he was one of the few things (if not the only) you (or anyone who would have posted similar) didn't have to complain about. Calm down and have a poptart or whatever turns your frown upside down.

It is truly sad that the offensive line is not in better condition than it is at this point. For a regime that values the line over the quarterback position they are doing a poor job of putting together a good one on the offensive side of things.

Almost none of that worries me too much. The biggest worry on this team right now is the offensive line. We have had more investment in that area than any other on the team and now going into the 4th season with this staff they are just awful they are nearly as bad as the team that went 1-15. Granted no Long yet but I can't see how adding one guy is going to toatlly correct 5 positions. Carey is just awful as is Columbo and Pouncey needs to add some size. I hope they go get O'hara for some interior line help, then again noone appears to be beating his door down at this point either or he would be signed somewhere already.

How about the complete change in offensive philosophy from last year? The way the o attacked the all of the field and dictated match ups. Our first team out played theirs. Maybe I have too high of expectations on jake long, but I see the line looking like a different unit with him out there. He is the best player on the team.

But how many actual points did the offense get for us? That line looks to be a real problem. Jake will help but they can't run every play to the left side. And he can't pass protect for the other four guys.

Pouncy is a rookie who had no off season. I don't think he has come close to playing as well as he is capable yet. Long lets murtha replace columbo, and puts a better tackle next to carey. Really, carey is the one who's play worries me right now. Regardless, the o-line has to play better.

10, but Marshall isn't going to fumble like that often. The way henne was slinging it, I'd say a full game 1st team on 1st team dolphins score at least 20, probaly more. That's without the best player on o playing.

What will help with the lack of run blocking is Bush. The quick dumps to him are basically the same as a run. Hopefully this will give them some time to correct the line issues.

We scored 17.1 ppg last year (30th in the league I think), I sure hope we can score about 23 ppg this year (would have been like 13th last year).

Exactly, at least the story line isn't:

    "Henne..suxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx!!!!!!!!!"

I tend to think the Ref's were flag happy as we have been #1 or #2 least penalized team for going on 4 yrs now, and let me say it:

Henne's strike to Beast was a thing of beauty...that was sweet.

That play was beautiful , pure and simply beautiful.

The throw , the catch , the fluidity and then the straight arm while not gearing down and taking the direct route to the end zone. Big play , deep ball , yards after catch , capitalizing on opportunities ... what virtually everyone that knows Miami said was missing and needed. We saw tangible production there , a thing of beauty.

the drive leading up to the FG that Henne led this team on, with the swing outlet passes to Bush, etc...was a thing of beauty and how fun this O can be this coming season.....then......the Goal to Go 3 plays and settle for FG (without LJ attempting a rush) in only a power formation was another non-thing of beauty.

I would prefer us to stay in spread formation and use traps and draws (like Tampa used) - or PA, etc; if/when faced with that in the regular season until we gel as an O-line.

Does ANYONE actually believe that our Oline shouldn't be experiencing difficulties right now considering we have a new RT, a new G (Carey), a rookie Center, and no Jake?

How about adding in a lockout?

Are you referring to all the player-only practices where coaches are unable to attend?

so the good : henne is not really real, because its preseason and the bad: oline counts because....its preseason, you make no sense at all, i had a feeling we would struggle with a quick line like tampa´s but fortunatley we dont have to deal with these kind of setup not much this season, sure they sucked, but hey its still preseason because henne´s play doesnt count yet right, so the oline play can´t count either RIGHT ?

I only saw the highlights because the game wasn't televised in my area, but based on what I saw it looks like we needs a ton of work in a few areas. Our DB's and our open field tackling (or rather the lack of it) has concerned me for the last couple of years now. I know that we have great talent back there which tells me that they are not being coached correctly. Every time we missed a tackle I cringed.

For a Head coach who is a former O-line coach the turnstile of players that have been put through our O-line with no real improvement horrifies me. The equipment managers must just hate TS because of the people he is trying out every month on the O-line without real success. Talent in - talent out - repeat, talent in - talent out - repeat, talent in - talent out - repeat, talent in - talent out - repeat is really getting us no where. It's time for us to settle on an O- line, let them gel together and become a unit and end this constant fiddling.

The bright side is the obvious improvement of Chad Henne. Thus far in the preseason it looks like he has really learned from his mistakes and tried to fix them. I am not suggesting that he is Dan Marino, but the improvement thus far is obvious. Lex Hillard also has improved during the off season and that should be applauded as well. There are many bright spots, but there are some old nagging problems that have not been addressed. I don't know who is coaching the DB's and don't care but it's time for a change. I am also getting equally tired of watching Bell stand around at the end of the play after getting there too late to be involved with his hands on his hips. He remains too old and ineffective to be on the roster.

It's time to throw the lockout crutch away. Every team went through it and every team dealt with it differently. Our problems with this team remain our problems and shouldn't be projected on the lockout. I must wonder if we spent so much time on offense that we neglected to address a few others.

In sum; there are a few very bright spots that shine and must be recognized. I feel that those areas have been addressed very well and the deserve the credit where it is due, but it's time for us to be realistic with our expectations. We will win some game this year but we are a miles away from a super bowl run. I think that we will have a good season and make some people stand up and take notice, but until we finally address the O-line and the problems with the DB's we will be going no where fast.

We need to stop looking for the magic elixir every year that will return us to the 1970's domination, it doesn't exist. I expect 9 win this year, maybe 10, but don't buy your super bowl ticket quite yet.

After reading through the board, I watched the game. I was disappointed, I was expecting Miami to look a lot worse.
