Henne leading league in :

Chad Henne leads the league (for the pre-season)...

In Avg Yds per pass, at 9.9 ypp
    Yds per game, 148.7 ypg
    Total Yds, at 446 yds

    QB rating 5th @ 93.4

I believe Chad is making significant improvement in areas he needed to. I also believe he can thrive in the offense we currently have, which I credit Brian Daboll for. We have some issues along the line, and need to see our running game improve, but I feel pretty good where we are at with both Henne and the Offense. No I dont think he will lead the league in passing....but as the season moves on, I think he will surprise some people.

So...with Henne's preseason pretty much over....

What do you think about his play, and the offense in general.

Missing information: total playing time and opponent quality. We're seeing a lot of second string defenses.

And the other QBs are not? :pity: we just played two quality opponents in ATL and TB

Me a known Henne doubter has really liked what Ive been seeing from Chad. I think he will still have some games that make us shake our heads, but I also think he will "WOW" us alot more this season.

The other QBs are not what? No, I doubt Tom Brady was playing many second stringers this preseason. Ndamukong Suh is pretty recognizable.

As for the quality opponents thing, that's my point. I'd be curious to see how Henne's stats compare to other QBs when playing against quality opponents (first string) rather than quality jerseys (second string). If you think that's hating, as Vinny Fins says, then fine. I call it wanting to see an apples to apples comparison after seeing how long Sparano kept the first string offense in against the second string defense, that's all.

Its only preseason. However he's starting to put it together.

I do believe he is the most promosing qb we have had in over a decade.

Stats over a three game sample are irrelevant.

That said, he's looking damn good. We've known that Henne can "make all the throws", we just need to see consistency.

Has Henne improved? It seems that way but what do we know, the season hasnt started yet.The Lions look much improved also but I bet their fans are only cautiously optimistic at the moment. Why? ITS ONLY PRESEASON.

Untill the real bullets fly we won't know for sure, but there is little doubt in my mind he is a better Qb than he was last year. He has quite frankly looked good. Good enough to win with at this point. He is NOT my biggest worry anymore, that is reserved for the Oline which after years of investment looks terrible.

Very sad,but true. And Sparano is supposed to be known for his O Line smarts. Go figure.

I agree, it looks like Henne can be at least serviceable. But now our OLine and running game need to step it up. But I'm not very optimistic that will happen. Sparano has had 4 offseasons to be a "GURU" with the OLine, and its maybe the worst line in the league. That spells "FAIL".

Offense doesn't look much more efficient than it did last year. Putting up ten points through 3 quarters against that TB defense isn't very encouraging to me.

I guess you took that the wrong way. Either that or I worded it wrong. ............Bottom line, lets just wait and see if anything in preseason carries over. Promising?? Yes, but we shall see.

You forgot the "EPIC" part in front of "FAIL".

This is the worst that line has looked since Sparano and company got here. The guys they have brought in just aren't good enough. Particularily the right side.

I don't think the line is much worse. They just aren't scheming any protections. Most teams that run a spread offense are going to look bad in protection at times.

Not counting sacks and scrambles, out of 45 attempts Henne has 7 completions that have gone 20+ yds which is real good IMO (15.55%) and 2 of those have gone 40+ yds.

And IMO the one to Gates that was 20+ last night looked catchable with a little more effort from Gates (to be fair I didn't watch it again in replay though).

Also I'm not sure those NFL.com numbers are 100% accurate (if that's where you got them) because I notice Stafford isn't on that list. And he's been a monster in the preseason and has 11.5 YPA (to go along with a staggering 77.4 comp %).

Big Ben has 11.6 YPA too, and both he and Stafford have ratings in the 140's.

To be fair....and this is a question...

To those that thought Henne would not improve...

If he were middle in the league in all of those stats posted.......would you still say these three game stats are irrelevant? Or...its only pre season? Be honest.

I've supported Henne pretty much the whole time, and while I'm extremely encouraged by his preseason performances I don't want to label it as proof (yet) that he's going to be a lot better this season. I hope he is and the stats/games make it seem more likely than before, but it is indeed preseason still. The number matter for sure (to me), but they just aren't proof positive that he's improved.

Oh...no way is this proof. All I originally said....was here are his stats over three pre season games. At this point...how does everyone feel about his play. Your reply was exactly as I hoped....prefaced with the fact its preseason...but not completely disregarding his performance.

Proof positive doesnt happen until we all look at everything at the end of the season.

Interesting question. If Henne had mediocre stats thus far I would probably take the "business as usual" approach with him. I`m sure I`d add a few "get this bum outta here" posts also. So,for the most part its been promising.......................so far.:couch:

Desides, right now, Henne isn't our problem. The OL is 2 for 3 in not showing up to play. If you want to question where Henne is right now, fine but where he is just isn't relative to the problems this team is facing. You can never derive much from stats normally, and even less so during the preseason. It was just a point that was brought out about Henne since he's been the focal point of our problems all offseason.

Tom Brady was massacred last night, but he was golden against Tampa last week. Big deal. Means little until Monday night a week...

What does look bad is our OL. That's where the criticism should be, not on Henne...

  29. Larryfinfan

    Larryfinfan 17-0...Priceless Club Member

While you make a good point, it's worrisome that we [again/still] are talking about the OL. I would say that in all likelihood, they were scheming protections at least some last night, it being the 3rd PS game. That's troubling but, I'd have to say, at this point in time, you're right that the OL isn't much worse and that's the absolutely the most concerning issue facing this team....

    Again...

Did you not see the Tampa - NE game? Tampa had a defense full of second stringers while Brady was chucking the ball.

Ironic thing about this is that they (the regime) came with a reputation of building from the inside out and from the OL and DL first...well, they've certainly failed (epically) on the OL part of that equation....

There are reasons to be optimistic on Henne though.

And I like how Fasano has upped his game since that int in gm #1.

I am not going to debate your feelings towards henne, not anyones, but I wish that we can be objective. I know it is impossible to completely remove feelings as tyhat is what makes us fans. But henne has looked more confident, more in command, hell even Omar said Henne played an excellent 1st half. the 1st drive secomd half i didnt see but second drive he had no shot backed up and no protection. The fact that he didnt run scared and tried to look down field and didnt just run away was progress to me. he has to get rid of it quicker yes but that he didnt panic is a good sign IMO

people still doubt him until he does it in reg season consistently, I get that. You are right in that preseason is preseason so when it counts he has to show well. TRUe. But it is surely better feeling seeing what we saw then if he looked like henne of last preseason

He does to me, he did the last game as well, has to be more ball security conscious though.

Henne is the least of my worries as far as the offense goes.
We are going to lose 10+ games if our line and running game continue like this.

  36. I'm not prepared to annoint anyone as anything based on preseason performances. Henne is playing well and thats encouraging and the Oline looks like it's struggling and that is worrisome but in all honesty it could just be an illusion. We may have a better OLine then we think and Henne may slump on us. My advice is temper expectations until we see how these guys do when they are game planning and playing teams that game planning against them for a full 4 quarters of football. I have been disappointed too many times by this team to start getting excited about the prospects of our upcoming season. I'm just hoping to be pleasently surprised for a change.

Despite the quality of the opponents the Dolphins have played, you definitely can see improvement in many aspects of Henne's game. Ball placement and accuracy have been impressive for the most part. He looks more comfortable staying in the pocket and going through his reads before checking down, which isn't all that bad when you have Bush who has shown can break tackles and make plays. Henne has shown awesome mobility too. He looks like an athlete.

The one thing that Henne has benefited from the most is the fact that he can now make adjustments and change plays at the line. It's impossible to be a decent QB when you have an ancient troll like Henning limiting you to what you can do.

I hear what you are saying and no doubt the debate is not resolved yet. BUt my only point is no matter what he cant solve the reg season in preseason. He has done what he has to do to build for success. He could fall flat when it counts, but the point I make is that at the least he has shown there is hope. if had 1td and 5 picks what would the progrnosis be?
