I'm just grateful Jerry didn't get to see any time "protecting" Henne. Can anyone explain to me why he was put in at LTof all positions late in the game ?
I think it was because Garner was at RT? They wanted to see Garner perhaps at RT as well as Jerry at a tackle spot? Jerry's not a bad bet to make it as the last linemen and the fourth tackle on the roster (RT backup), with Murtha the LT backup.
If you notice, on the pass to Gates down the sideline that he dropped, Henne gave him a hand single, if that means "change to fly route" IDK. Just watching that clip, Colombo did okay, he mirrored his man effectively
Thought Colombo blocked okay on the vast majority of those plays. Murtha is not even comparable to Colombo. Neither is Carey for that matter (at RT even).
All offseason we've discussed how Henne can't sense pressure, can't complete a deep pass, doesn't keep his eyes down the field while stepping up in the pocket, has terrible footwork and is too slow, is unable to be a leader of the offense, isn't able to read defenses and thus could never call the correct audible, etc. His recent performances may or may not translate into the regular season, but he deserves major credit for taking this checklist of his faults and obviously working on all of them this offseason.
The field goal drive was very good as he moved the team down the field too bad they ran it down there instead of giving him the go ahead to get another TD. Too bad Marshall fumbled the next offensive play because he O could have used another good scoring drive.
Exactly, 10 pts is not a lot, but if you watched the game you came away thinking the passing offense looked fine. Running the ball though...not so much.
Henne just looks like a different player this year both in leadership and ability. Takes charge, good use of audible, pocket presence, looks off DBs, accurate, solid decision making, progression through reads. Crazy...I thought the lockout was really going to hurt Miami b/c of new OC, system, and players on offense. It actually looks like the best thing that could have happened for Miami b/c it created a situation in which Henne could become the team leader. Who would have thunk it? I am back on the Henne wagon this year!
two additional thoughts about the video. Notice when Marshall scores his touchdown, the entire offense is running down the field to congratulate/celebrate. Good stuff. And check out the Bess catch at around the 2:30 mark. Check out what Mike Pouncey does on that play, it's worth watching again and again.
Realizing it is only preseason but they really look different on O (passing). Faster tempo, on the same page, dicatating to the D. Looks like the passing game is going to have to open up the holes for the running game until they get it together.
He looks like a totally different player. His head is on a swivel, taking what he has, trusting his eyes and the playmakers. Must...remind....myself...it's.....preseason.
I'm glad we can start putting these arguments to bed now and move on. Henne was put in zero possibilities to succeed last season.
Firstly, I am not a "Henne hater", but this does have me a little concerned: If you look at the great catch by Clyde Gates, Henne pulls a typical "Henne move". He stares right and immediately throws left (at around 2:45 in the video). Granted, Gates makes a helluva play, BUT, with a hand in his face, Henne still makes the throw, which turns out to be high. Henne pulled this against Atlanta, where he looked right and then throws left nearly throwing a pick 6. This pass wasn't AS BAD, because he seemed to take a split second longer, but he still made the throw, which was errant and potentially drive-killing. I am only pointing this out. I wonder if this is part of his "bag of tricks"? I think we'll see it again during the season. I only hope it goes our way like in this play.....
In Gish's video, I counted not 1, not 2, but 3 Jets players beaten. Encluding Revis. Hehehehehe, hahahahaha Phuc the Jets!
Good eye for detail, things such as that he simply did not do under Henning/Lee, he was more or less just a vanilla Qb who did not do the small things such as that, or play action well, or know when to take off running. Rich Gannon used that move to great effect only he added a pump fake.
The only throw from Henne I was concerned with was the WR screen to Bess. Granted Ronde Barber is smart as hell but thats the one pass Henne didnt have good vision of the field.
I liked what Henne said afterwards about how he is in control of the audibles, how he controls the offense. If you read between the lines he's definitely a much bigger fan of Daboll and his offense then he ever was with Henning's and looks a HELL of a lot more comfortable with it in a matter of a month then he did in 3 years of Henning.
Same here, though I am quite pleased that he has polished his game, and that translates to the regular season. That used to drive me nuts because it is so simply fixed by basic levels of coaching.
Usually, when I see a guy who has been a disappointment being tried at another position it's a "one last look" to see if he's salvageable before cutting him. Think Wilford at Tight end. Jerry's gonna be cut, imo.
Or traded, the interesting aspect to that is Ray Feinga then takes the roster slot, he beat out CFLer Tsoumpas last yr, and this yr it would be Jerry, though Feinga can still be put on the ps.
i actually see this play as a positive, he went trough his progressions and threw a pass that had no shot at beeing pickd, this was one of his better plays on the night, imo
I'm loving his awareness and progressions, head like a sprinkler pivot, no more staring the receiver down with target lock.
I can certainly see your point. My problem is that the throw was errant (much like the throw against Atlanta), and it had all the makings of being picked if it were tipped in the air. The play was, IMO, all Clyde Gates. I am just pointing out that, although Henne might've "gone through his progressions", in his mind, he knows he has a one-on-one situation on that side and probably knows pre-snap that's more than likely the place he wants to throw (given what the defense is showing pre-snap). Or at least he knows pre-snap that the option is there. Either way, I think it's something to note. I just don't want him to get too cute. It was almost a pick 6 against Atlanta, and certainly could've been a tipped INT situation on that play. Both plays, Henne made a bad throw. Granted, on this particular play, he had a hand in his face. But my point in all of this is that he looked right, and threw left without a hitch. And both throws were poor throws. It's almost as if he knew he was going that way regardless of what was happening on the right side of the field.
I think Henne looks better, our O line could do a little better. and with all these plays i want to see more points! at least one more TD for these few series
Feinga was also tried at LT after Jerry gave up the sack. So his spot is far from safe as well. In fact, did anyone catch Sparano chewing Jerry a new *** when he went to the sideline after the sack. Jerry has about a .00001% chance of making the team. Which is really a shame because there goes another fairly high wasted pick.
To echo what others have said, there is something different about Henne so far this year. I'm not talking about his play on the field, but in the (for lack of a better word) aura he is projecting. I first noticed it as Mad Dog's memorial service, seeing him in the stands, he looked like a boy who had become a man. And I noticed it before the Atlanta game. He just looks like a quarterback now. And this coming from a guy who defended him all last year and all offseason. Haha. Then again, maybe it's just the fact that he is not longer working the buzz cut and has hair. The mind sees what it wants to see, I guess.
Yeah, that is what I see too Paul. Murtha is quick enough to handle the speed rush but can get bull rushed sometimes. He tries hard though and never quits on a play. Colombo is kind of the opposite. He is tough to bull rush and has strong hands and can usually control his man when he can lock on. Speed, either around the corner, or inside counter, can beat him sometimes. Most of the time I see him handling speed ok too. He just looks not so smooth and a little lumbering, but to me that's ok as long as he gets the job done. Also, like Murtha, Colombo battles till the whistle. On one run up the middle, the phantom holding call on Polite (IMO), Colombo's man grabs onto the runner, as he is going past, but Colombo never quit blocking him, and the result was the three of them in a pile. The runner, Bush or Thomas, the tackler, the LDE, and Colombo on top of both, still latched onto the LDE. It would have been like a 6 yd gain, if not for the hold. I watched that play 5 or 6 times over and over, and if Polite held it had to be ticky tack at best. Sure wasn't blatant, like the Winslow headlock and take down that was not called on Tampa's first series. Carey though, sad to say, has the energy and drive out there, of a 3 toed sloth. I'd cut him today if it were up to me.
No, thank gawd. I know some folks want to see him moved back to RT and a new RG added, but I see no reason to believe the USS Carey would transform from a tug boat to a light cruiser just be moving back outside.
