It could be that they really do hold him in high regard for his ability to play all five spots (marginally well). One question we've never really visited with Garner is where does he play best? Is it LG or RT?

The penalties last night... don't exactly help the offensive line do they?

There could be guys that are cut. Andrew Quarless might end up cut. I liked him coming out of Penn State and I liked him last year as a rookie. I like him better than Havner. Like I said, the Dolphins don't even have blocking specialists, so if you see a Jim Dray or Stephen Spach cut from Arizona, those would be good pickups. They've been coached well and they know what they're doing in both phases, but they're especially good in blocking which we don't have...aside from Fasano. Then you have possibly a Cody Slate from Kansas City as an H-Back to compete with Charles Clay who really isn't doing much for me at this point. I would also take a look at Michael Hoomanawanui of St. Louis if he gets cut there. Billy Bajema seems to be holding onto the starting job and they also drafted Lance Kendricks. Fendi Onobun and Michael Hoomanawanui may be fighting for one roster spot, and Fendi is the guy that has all that athleticism and is a basketball convert, etc. Michael caught some touchdowns last year, I believe. The Bucs might be worth keeping an eye on. They have Kellen Winslow who is definitely making it, and Luke Stocker also similarly safe. Behind them they have Ryan Purvis, Nate Overbay and Daniel Hardy. I would assume Hardy makes it as he's been the strongest performer this preseason. But, Overbay or Purvis could be worth looking into. I believe Overbay caught that TD against us last night.

    Or is it RG?

I don't know. Wherever you need him. I'd assume he's a better Guard than Tackle though.

Good thought, maybe that or sign Waters and start Murtha at RT. He'll have to prove himself in the running game, but at least Henne will be less likely killed from that side. As the roster stands now I'd be inclined to have Garner at RG and Murtha at RT. I'm still curious as to why Waters hasn't been signed yet by any team, with that kind of career, a 2010 Pro Bowl season, and he's 34 which doesn't seem all that old to me. Carey and Jerry seem increasingly like dead weight- and a lot of it. Maybe Ray Feinga should get more of a look at RG, I don't know.

I keep watching Murtha. He just doesn't have that strength you need. Nate Garner looks ok. I think he's fine at left guard or right guard. I'd put him at RG just so that you can pull him and have him block ahead of Long-Incognito on the left side. Right tackle is a cluster ****. Two Nate Garner's and we'd be fine. Man Henne is getting the ball out fast. Would O'Hara be the equivalent of Garner at RG? Perhaps. I think he'd be a good player there. We're not going to have a strong offensive line, but as long as it gives Henne good pass protection we'll put some points up.

the moves i still see us looking at are RB, RG/RT and TE ..... for all the reasons above ... not sure we are satisfied with RB, but it is a lesser requirement than OL.

I sure hope that Pouncey works out, because Game Carimi would have looked mighty good for us at RT. Talk about book ends with Jake Long. I didn't know that Carey had so little left in the tank, kind of surprising to me. Not even 30 yet, and I didn't suspect that his injuries were so bad.

1- I thought we had Overbay on the team at some point last year. (edit: looks like he was on the PS for a week)

2- Why do people keep suggesting Quarless might get cut? He's #2 on the depth chart, and hasn't done anything in the two games I've seen to make me think he's lost that job. I'd think Crabtree, Williams, and Taylor are in much more trouble than him.

He might get cut because Jermichael Finley is the #1 TE on the roster, D.J. Williams is the Mackey Award winner and I think they like him more than Quarless, Tom Crabtree is a blocking specialist whereas Williams and Finley are pass catching specialists, and so if you keep Finley, Williams and Quarless then one could argue that's too much ketchup with no mustard, and finally Ryan Taylor has evidently blown their minds this preseason and camp. They might keep 4 Tight Ends and that could STILL leave Quarless out.

I haven't seen the last game yet, but how did Murtha do? Is he a good option at RT at this point, or is he not cutting it?

Cody Slate tore his ACL his senior at Marshall. Hes just coming back full strength.

Slate successor at Marshall was Lee Smith; Who was drafted 159th by the Pats; with two starting TE I wonder if the Pats will attempt to sneak Smith through the wavier wire. Yeah Lee Smith is real good.
