Not really fair. I liked the speech and I'm very excited for our MNF game, but I can understand if after the late season collapses of the previous two years if some fans just want to see winning and could care less about the chatter. Long as you're supporting them on the field win or lose, that's not fair weather; don't have to do back flips over every speech. I mean were there not speeches and press conferences with a similar tone before the 2010 and 2009 seasons?

Never really been an issue with Sparano has it? Seems like the players have always really liked Coach Sparano and enjoy playing for him, it just hasn't always resulted in the number of wins fans would like to see.

Where did I say I don't want to watch the games? I support Tony Sparano and the entire Dolphins team and organization. I'm just as excited as you are for the start of this season. I'm just not going to get fired up over a pre season speech. I want results in year 4, not :words: Is that so hard to understand?

I think that is a good thing though Al, basically the Phins have been the "snuffalufagusses" of the AFCE for yrs now, don't mind us we are just down here, please do not speak badly of us and we won't be bold, and say "me and Sean Smith are the best Cb duo in the NFL".

The revved up tone is required imo, as if the team is not excited about itself and it's improvements, how will fans be?

Thats just it the team is being pumped up by words with little backing at least IMO ...
The fans would need no coaxing and be revved up with appropriate upgrades, If we had signed a upgraded QB (FA Draft) say a Bradshaw and 1 or 2 OL, upgrade the TE, You wouldn't be able to hold us back we'd all be so excited and chomping at the bit.....

But what do we do Colombo, LJ, no TE, scrum backups .... how in the H are they sopposed to help our already struggling QB............I don't know I just can't put a positive hit on the seasons moves...........I wish I could....

Which is fine, every team has questions, what I liked about Sparano's approach is there is room on board when the team wins.

Same here, I really like Sparano, and wanted him to add a different Qb just to keep his job if nothing else, but I have admire his guts in sticking with Henne and pretty much betting his job on #7.

Not a move I'd make, but then again, I'm a bet hedger if at all possible, not Sparano, he pushed all of his chips into the middle of the table and went all in.

Every team, from the Packers through the Pats to the Panthers have questions about units at this time of the yr, not a single one that does not.

Sparano is saying his team will win, and some may not like them now, but will like them later.

I enjoyed the speech so much I’ll be wearing my signed Zach Thomas helmet for the remainder of the evening. Chin strap secured, of course.

The facts are that Sparano inherited a 1-15 team and came back to win the AFC East in 2008. In 2009 the defense was terrible and rebounded into a top 10 unit in 2010. Last year the offense was terrible. Some blame Henne, some blame Sparano and Henning some blame the offensive line.

Everyone can nit pick about who was or wasn’t signed. From what I’ve seen so far it looks like they will be able to move the ball down the field better than I've seen in a long time.

I remember last preseason the new defense looked iffy at best. Is it really that much of a stretch to assume the offense is doing the same thing this preseason? Who on this board had even heard of Payton Hillis before last year? Now he's on the Madden cover.

    I'm pretty pumped.

Sounded like the Coach is pissed off at the fanbase, sounds like he knows the importance of energy that comes from an electric crowd and how that can elevate an athlete's performance, sounds like he called the people out at the luncheon for being blah and basically said wake the fu%$ up and get hyped about your team, sounds like he thinks a lotta people, including the teams own fans, are underestimating the club, and is really angry and disapointed in the fanbases quick hyper/negative judgements, sounds like he disagrees with a lot of analysis thats been put out there and thinks that, wait for it'', wait for it''.... ' Their gonna win, with, or without its fanbase''.....lol.

    Best freakin line all offseason.

Nicely done Coach..man showed me somethin, he's gonna speak what he thinks, and he doesn't care who's in the room, and, he's got the ultimate motivation to make an angry team... thats what you gotta do in that stadium...me likey..

I've heard more exciting pep talks from Dennis Kuccinich, 'kay. And to bring up the movie "Gladiator"?!? God Damn he sucks at speeches... I'm a little less inspired now Tony, thanks 'kay.

Great speech IMO. Tony put everyone on notice. I took from it: Join us now our you'll be playing catch up all season long.

We are going to Roll we dont look back. When this is over it will be a dynamic journey. Will we always win no, will we always compete i expect it. The Defense is back and improved, the offense has a new improved outlook. BRING IT ON

Time will tell what our fate is this season, but im with Tony I'm ready for the journey. Im ready to replace the broken items in my house when we **** up, im ready to drink that extra shot when I shouldn't if things go well.

Alot of negative vibes floating in this fan base I know. But why dwell on the past its counter productive, it does no good. It changes nothing and doesnt make ya feel better. Look forward, the journey is what its all about, lets all reset and get ready for 2011!

This reminds me of the movie 'Mystic Pizza'....... and how I'll never watch that girly nonsense unless I'm paralyzed and my eyelids are stapled open.

    Question regarding the following quote,
I didn't know you followed Tony's career around the past 10 years? I could see you feeling this way if you only watched the 2004 Cowboys; however, during the other 4 seasons they finished no worse than 9-7 and made the playoffs 3 times. That mumbo jumbo was probably pretty solid during their 13-3 2007 season. Just sayin.

When did I say I wasn't fired up for the start of the season? Because I don't get all tingly by a speech from our lame duck head coach I'm not excited for the start of the season? You're jumping to quite the conclusion. I would be excited for the start of this season if Rich Kotite was our head coach.

why not be excited about this speech? he cant win any meaningful games in the preseason... he has to give a speech there anyway, do you want him to give a boring one that says, we have questions about this aspect of our team, and we dont know if that'll work but we'll see what happens?

hell no, whats wrong with having confidence? whats wrong with a coach who has seen lots of teams at this stage of the preseason to compare to in his career, and being confident in this particular team? whats wrong with giving a speech that will fire up the players? you call it blah blah rah rah, but the players see it as motivation, its the kind of speech that bonds a team...

    love it!

Off topic here, but is it just me, or does it seem like Jeff Ireland always wears that tanned patterned suit?

Anyway, I like Tony Sparano the coach. He may not be the brightest Xs and Os guy (still better than 95% of us here though, but 100% criticize the guy) but not many coaches call their own plays. That is what coordinators are for.

His players want to play for him, he instills pride in them, and if it is one thing that swag NFLers hate to lose more than money, it is their pride. He expects greatness from them, and rewards them when they make strides to greatness, but keeps them humble and ready to learn more to be better. Sparano could've had Neon Deion and still would have said "you know, Deion is a great player, ok, but he still needs to do some things at the line of scrimmage to get better, ok, but he's been practicing well and we expect him to get better where we see room for improvement." LOL.

End all, if someone like Marshall gets motivated, and publicizes that on Twitter, you can bet your bottom dollar this team will go to war for the guy! Don't mention the Pats game last year, I don't care who you are, how good of a motivator you are, that can always happen. What Ricky said post season? Well, it is Ricky after all, and he then said he wants to come back. J.Taylor, left because of Parcells, and said he loves Tony. We can win a Superbowl with Sparano folks, even with some poor time outs and other game day decisions. Every coach has a vice, getting the best of his players without guaranteeing super bowls and a bunch of profanities is a damn good trait to have, and a must have, at the NFL level.

I'm rooting for the guy, especially considering what happened with the Harbaugh situation, who seems to be (both of 'em imo) pompous arrogant twits. I could be wrong though, just sayin.

While coaching is more relevant in the NFL than the other sports, it still comes down to players. If you have great players you can win. I mean, Barry Freakin Switzer won a Super Bowl.

If Henne throws for 30 and 10 this year than I imagine sparano will be hailed as a genius whereas the truth is that he's the same guy he ever was, he just finally had a QB.

As for the lokcer room stuff, that's nice and all but really doesn't matter unless you have a full mutiny going on. I'm sure Belichick is not some beloved figure in the locker room but the players respect him, and he puts them in position to succeed.

All things being equal, a motivated team will win. All this garbage about "whoever needs extra motivation shouldn't be playing the game" etc is nonsense. There is always room for extra motivation.

How coaches get that out of their players is different, there is no one blueprint. Sparano motivates, Bellicheck instills the 'respect the code' mantra, etc. Either way, these guys will play for Tony.

Of course every championship team needs the players, but inferior teams win all the time, for a variety of reasons. I'm not going all rah rah over this speech, but it did get me excited and I'm sure it excited our players too.

Nice spin on my post ........did you read it ? because it seems you didn't understand it..........and just want to bash me...
Why don't you try just giving your thoughts on the topic..............and tell us how much you just loved how tough and positive Coach S. was........ As far as Coach S. career

I've followed it pretty closely almost 4 years and find it turning into a frustrating waste of time much like your post....

But I am glad to see him changing his philosophy, to bad like most of his evaluations they come way after the fact and leaves us scrambling to rebuild and recover............but thats probably a little to complicated for you to understand.......

Hey you obviously seem to be OK with and enjoy mediocrity so theres were we differ along with not being afraid to hear criticism .... enjoy your 2007 season and 9-7, if they even get that........

Any negativity towards Sparano seems to have become very taboo on this board for some reason.

What's funny to me is how much the perception of things change right after the end of last season to the beginning of this season. At the end of last season, most on this board agreed we needed a new head coach, we only disagreed on who that guy should be. It was a very small minority of fans here who still supported coach Sparano.

But fast forward to today and now everyone is drinking the Kool-Aid. Suddenly he's like the freakin' Gladiator getting ready for glorious battle and can do no wrong.

I support the guy too and hope nothing but huge success for him this year and in the future. The only difference is I haven't forgotten what a terrible job he did last season. 1-7 at home. Losses at home to the Lions, Bills, and Browns. I don't care who you are, that's just flat out unacceptable. The inconsistency of last year's team points to coaching. But he's our head coach this year and we're all pulling for him. It's just some of us aren't going to get riled up from the same re-hashed, low brow speech.

And truth be told, it's not a very good speech. It's the same crap. This group. I'm proud of them. We'll win. Kay? Kay? Kay?

If this is the type of public speaking that fires you up who am I to judge? If it works on the players, that's all I care about. They seem to like the guy and support him so that's a good thing. I'll be fired up by Tony's same old locker room speech if it comes after a win. Because winning is all that matters.

Lack of creativity, depth of emotion, delivery, timing. The 'kay is just an annoying tick. It's as if he is mountain climbing verbally and he sets his anchor after every sentence. It's a bit condescending as well. Don't get me wrong, I admire the man for his virtues, but enough is enough; his pep talks suck balls...
