I have no idea why Chad Henne is still fighting to be a starting QB in the NFL. His team benched him, and tried to replace him. His "fans" have been calling for his head for over a year. He is apparently a lost cause for a quality starting QB in this league.

The poor guy, while leading off team workouts, was not thought highly enough to even keep as a starter, as the Orton deal hung over his head.

The national, and local media have ripped him to shreds, and were outdone by "fans" booing him in practice.

Why the hell did he not give up? It would have been so easy, as so many others have done it.

I have to think that he does not care what the media and fans think, and believes in himself, and that he is a legit NFL QB. That has to be the only reason why he would put up with all the abuse, and still be there fighting.

I like this attitude, and wish him ALL THE BEST in proving many people wrong. JMO

Yeah he should have probably given up his lifelong dream of being a starting NFL QB and making millions of dollars because people lost confidence in him.

I mean once I hit an obstacle I just give up.

Wow. I feel like I wandered into a parallel universe in which the whole world is against Henne, and even all the fans who support him are now enemies.

I just don't see it. Henne has a lot of support in the fanbase, even if some will never like him for their own reasons.

As for the media; who gives a ****?

You either have the mentality of a loser or that of a winner. Henne has proven which he has. It's his ability that we question, not his confidence. Not sure why anyone would give up in his situation. You'd have to be a total failwad to give up a starting QB position in the NFL just because people criticize you. It's part of the position. People will always find something negative to say until you lead your team to a championship. Even Marino carries that stigma despite his accomplishments. It's just how it is. You have to be able to deal with criticism. You either use it as motivation, or you use it as an excuse.

Now he does have more support but at the beginning of the preseason there was only about 10 of us anywhere who believed in him.

True story. Hell, he's making $555K this year, MUCH less than his backup. Forget the "feel good ju ju (no idea what that means) but, it ain't easy to put up with what he has. Name one who has?

Seriously, players are human, and and all the negative stuff thrown at Henne could have very easily affected him.

Well, I've been a Henne supporter all along, but even I understand that his problem isn't his ability, it's him being consistently able. That's always been what folks have been concerned about. So it might be a bit early to start anointing him Dan Marino status until we see how he handles things this season overall. Not 4 games, not 8 but 16 games and if we're lucky a game or two more this season...

Henne was benched because he was sucking it up. Thats the breaks. Good for him for not doing so though. He's showed me a lot by doing that.

I think he has shown better overall physical ability at the position, lighter, quicker, while under pressure..serious pressure for an offseason and preseason..guy is ready to play ball.

Thats what I like about it..

If Henne had a game like Sanchez did against the Giants he would have been destroyed.
Snachez played into the third quarter and I think he had 65 yards a lost fumble and a TD and Jests fans attitude is, it's only pre season.

I watched the first quarter of the Atlanta/Pitt game and I found myself laughing as Ryan did all the same things that Henne has been criticized for this preseason. Missed opportunities? Check. Throwing back shoulder to a crossing receiver (or poor ball placement)? Check. Over-throwing deep? Check. Inaccurate short passes? Check. Bad decisions? Check. Low scoring by the offense? Check. Basically Ryan did all the things that some claim prove Henne isn't good enough and he did them more often.

hehe..it's almost like people blow out of proportion the smallest thing that isn't perfect so they can say "look I'm right" or push whatever opinion they have on a specific player :wink2:

Something that I like about our offense so far is that nobody has really looked "lost". I know it hasn't been pretty a few times, but the QBs haven't looked overwhelmed, the running backs have looked serviceable, and there really hasn't been a ton of incorrect routes being run.

I noticed on our first series last night Moore had an incomplete pass to Hartline, where Hartline sat in the zone but Moore threw it as if he were continuing the crossing route and the ball hit the DB right in the hands, but he dropped it. If Henne made that throw we'd already have a 5 page thread on how he sucks.

Raf that is my biggest issue is unrealistic expectations. I get that ryan and brady and manning leave plays on the field but make alot more plays as well whereas henne hasnt reached that level yet. but my point is to dismiss the improvement based on a single or a small sample of plays is ridiculous. henne is never gonna get to peerfection, the elite dont so why expect henne to?

While I agree, that Henne's testicular fortitude is impressive, one guy who had it way worse was Drew Brees.

Look I've been one since the beginning stating he needs time so give him a break.
However, you're painting quite the "poor Henne" picture here.

Anyone that is in a leadership position has faced pressure and doubt about their abilities. It comes with the territory. Those that have it stay focused on the goal and those that don't fall to lesser positions. Henne is no special case here. That he has stayed focused is a good sign but the pressures are not anymore than any high profile rookie faces.

John Elway was boo'd off the field on multiple occasions in Denver early in his career.

Like I mentioned Henne has faced no pressure that's any different than any high profile rookie faces.
Not like they don't get paid VERY well for the ride whether they succeed or not.

Was Brees treated that poorly by SD fans? I mean, they did have the #1 pick after his second year starting and he was pretty poor. But once he started playing well and there was talks of trading either him or Rivers I remember there being a very storng current of fans who wanted to trade Rivers. I remember because I was trolling SD boards at the time because I wanted either of them, lol

Is there a level of pleasure in seeing most of the Henne haters backpedal faster than a DB facing Clyde Gates? You betcha. Funny part is, all it took was a couple of preseason games. If he bombs vs New England, I'm pretty sure the bandwagon will be near empty once again. Fair weather fans is the term, IIRC.

Correction. If Henne made that throw the DB would have caught it and returned it for a TD, and the thread would be 12 pages long by now.

Peyton Manning was not regarded as having been "awful" in his rookie year. I specifically remember a lot of people being very impressed, actually. You have to understand that to that point, there had barely been any true rookies that truly lit it up on a QB Rating basis in the NFL. Dan Marino may not have been the only one but he was the only one anyone remembered, and even he didn't start the entire rookie year like Peyton did. So while Peyton threw 28 INTs, what everyone actually took from that rookie year was the fact that he threw 26 TDs. I remember Dan Marino commenting on Peyton after his rookie year. He spoke very glowingly. Dan himself had only thrown 26 or more TDs once in the last 10 years so for Peyton to do that as a true rookie, neither he nor anyone else seemed to care about the 28 interceptions.

The NFL passing game hadn't really undergone yet the bulk of the overhaul that awaited it, with respect to the implementation of spread principles which cut down on interception percentages and allow QBs to be more efficient on a QB Rating basis.

You should've seen him in the Divisional game vs Green Bay last year. Dimitroff sure did, and he sold his soul to acquire Julio Jones to HELP HIS QB get a down field threat and keep coverage away Roddy White and Tony Gonzales. Meanwhile Miami fans are bashing Henne b/c he didn't get the job done throwing deep to Hartline, Moore, Wallace or whatever scrub deep threat we (never) had last year.

Henne was not a high profile pick, as he was taken in the second round (same as Pat White), and is not a millionaire. I don't see fair comparisons to someone like an Elway, etc.

IMO, Henne deserved a little more patience than many fans have given him, and admire how he has handled it.

Peyton's HC didnt seem terribly impressed. Nor did he seem as inclined to make excuses for Manning's poor play. I guess that's why he got fired.

"I don't care who you play...When you turn the ball over...4 INTs, 1 returned for a TD, 3 others in field position to set up TD's, you aint gonna beat anybody...ANYBODY!".

Mora called Peyton out but he never benched him, and the Colts stuck with him through his growing pains. They didn't tuck tail and go searching for a replacement after one bad season. They brought in Edgerrin and Reggie Wayne to go with Harrison, got him a TE and an OL that could keep him upright and overall I'd say those were some solid decisions. Peyton actually through 23 more INTs in his 4th season, and no less than 15 until his 6th season, with an average of 20 per season over his first 5 years in the league. Must have been the lack of spread concepts.

Good thing the Dolphins didn't draft him, he might never have seen a 4th or 5th season.

Of course he was a high profile pick.

He was a 2nd round prospect drafted by a team that hasn't had a good QB in over a decade.
Anyone in that position is going to get pressure.
It's expected.
The pity party here is.......... pityful

I agree that he and any rookie require more patience and I respect him for staying focused and showing he deserves the monetary investment the franchise has put in him. I applaud it but I'm not recommending Henne get a purple heart because fans doubted him and media idiots questioned him.

Fans doubted him? Hell they were screaming for another QB. That is not doubt that is pure hatred. Now they all say Wha look at this Henne is playing better than we expected. How could this happen?
