We talked about this before the preseason games. As we have now seen our rookies on the field, I thought it would be good to revisit.

Mike Pouncey- I expect him to be very solid, at worst, and an upgrade. I'll hold off anything more until I see him vs Wilfolk and "Pat Albert" on MNF. That's about as tuff a test as you can have in a rookie center's first game.

Daniel Thomas- I still believe he will be good for about 200 carries, 850 yards, and 5-6 TD's. I can also see him catching 25 passes for 25o yards, and a TD or two. IMO, that's fair and will have an impact on our O.

Clyde Gates- He has been blowing by defenders, and his route running is a bit better than expected. I expect around 30 catches for 500 yards, and 4-5 TD's. His impact may be more in what he does for our other receivers than the actual stats.

Charles Clay- I have no idea what to expect. For now, I would put him down for 20 catches, 250 yards, and 2 TD's. He is a wild card.

Jimmy Wilson- I see him as a ST stud, and making some plays in nickel and dime coverage. Maybe a sack or 2, a pick, and a FF.

Frank Kearse- I did not see him making the roster. He has looked much better than a 7th rounder, and doubt he will be able to be kept on the practice squad. Tuff choice between him and Fields.

All of the above would make for a VG draft.

if gates can turn into a legitimate deep threat, that will help our offense more than anything. maybe force teams to keep a safety deep and get Marshall some one on one coverage. maybe swing bush to the outside to overload one side of the field, and our passing game will be damn hard to stop

Don't know about his IQ, just what I have seen of him running the ball. Fantasy projections had him going for a whole lot more. I think it is fair.

The way he has been running in preseason, I'd be very happy with 850 yds from Thomas. He did look a little better last night, though. Maybe the light is coming on for him.

I think your expectations are too high for Thomas Gates and Clay.

    1) Thomas probably won't get 200 carries, although it'd be nice and it'd mean he's doing something right, but I'd say realistically anywhere between 115-160

    2) I'd love for Clyde Gates to get 30 catches and 5 TDs, but I highly doubt that: To put it into perspective: Hartline had 31 catches his rookie year. And he's more of a possession guy and had Ted Ginn opposite him. Gates has to take balls away from Marshall, Bess, Hartline, and Bush. And at this point, I can't see him getting 30 balls given how raw he still is.

    3) Clay with 20 catches? I'd be really surprised. Heck, I'd be surprised if Clay is active for more than half our games.

Who cares how smart he is? Frank Gore has been a great RB and he has a learning disability.

I have Thomas getting a bit over 12 carries a game, and Gates catching a bit under 2 catches a game. That is not a lot for either player.

As I said, I have not a clue as to what Clay will bring but, had to put down something.

Mike Pouncey- I expect him to be an upgrade, but not sure quite how much of an upgrade at this point.

Daniel Thomas- I expect aroung 650 total yards out of him this year. probably around 500 rushing yards. If Reggie goes down I could see the 800 yards then...

Clyde Gates- I expect a couple big plays this year, and little else to be honest. I have high hopes for him, but we have to many weapons for him to get 500 yards. Ill say 18 catches for 320 yards.

Charles Clay- Nothing. I wouldn't be suprised to see him cut to be honest.

Jimmy Wilson- I expect him to be a ST stud as well.

Frank Kearse- I actually see him making the roster over Fields. At least I hope he does. I don't expect much in terms of production though. or even being active, but I expect him to make the final 53.

It would be very interesting to see a NFL with only "Rocket Surgeons" playing. :)

We ran the ball 445 times last year, and 509 the year before. If Thomas does not get the carries, who will?

I believe we will throw at least one bomb to Gates every game, and he will catch some. 500 yards is not a lot.

Well for one I don't expect to run 500 times this season. I expect around 400 rushes.

Lets say we do throw 1 a game to Clyde...Lets say he gets a good amount and catches 5 for an average of 40 yards a catch. thats 200 yards. Hes not going to get much other then that.

i think Thomas will get 'worked' into the RB rotation ... maybe around 500 yards combined

i think Gates will become get targeted more as the season wears on .... and he earns more playing time (namely 2d half). he will make folks forget that Ginn was ever here (thankfully).

i buy into PUP or IR for Clay ... i don't think he sees the field this year.

Pouncey will prove to be a solid pick up .... and next year break out and be our best C since Dwight S .... he just needs to get experience and stronger

Kearse is the question .... not sure we want to expose him to waivers/cut .... doubt he'd make it to the PS -- surely not stay there. assuming he stays on the roster ... would predict 5-10 snaps a game (more if Soliai gets hurt along the way)

    I think this is realistic.

I expect somewhere between 120-150 carries for Thomas with a handful (3-4) touchdowns. I can also see Gates getting around 15-20 receptions with a couple touchdowns. I don't expect much from Clay but I do think he'll get somewhere between 10-15 receptions and maybe a touchdown.
