Neither Wallace or Marlon Moore is eligible for the PS. The parameters are: Moore played only 9 games, but was on the active (53 man) roster all season. Wallace played in 12 games as well as being on the 53 man roster all season. I hope they both make the team.
That is my suspicion as well Mr C, but not sure if they could keep Thomas active by calling him the #3 Qb, which is what a part of the attraction of Pat White was, roster flexibility.
I don't know if anyone's posted it but apparently both Ryan Baker and Quinton Spears believe they'll make the team, though they haven't been told that. That's a good thing. Phil Livas should make it too.
If there was a legit chance that Phil Livas would get cut then the Dolphins wouldn't have given him 100% of the returns work in Weeks 3 and 4 of the preseason. Not only are they keeping him, but they've known they would be keeping him for a few weeks now.
Devlin still has to make it through waivers in order to be signed to the practice squad. Until he's cut, there's no room for Froman.
O'Connell being cut has nothing to do with the practice squad, is what I'm trying to tell you. The Dolphins weren't going to pull a Jon Gruden and carry 4 QBs.
Yes they would and will, the #46 active roster slot on gamedays is for the #3 Qb ONLY, there is no penalty for carrying 3 active Qb's on gamedays, and then one stashed on the practice squad.
If you keep 3 QBs, 5 RBs, 2 TEs, 8 OL, you can keep 6 WRs, plus a RS in Livas. If one or two of your 5 RBs, are versatile to be H Back or TE types, like Clay and/or Hilliard, you only need to carry 2 TEs. Also, you may keep 2 real QBs on the 53, 1 on the PS and keep 9 OL, and use one as an extra blocker for those situations when you want two inline TEs, which won't be as often imo, in this offense.
God, I hope you are right. Tony is always preaching on hidden yardage, and like you said before, even though Livas could not return any last game, he saved a bunch of yards but fair catching and not letting the punts hit and roll.
We finally have a real linebacker prospect to develope in Spears.. He looks like an instinctual player, with inherent passrush skills, and with a body that could add size and not lose quickness, really liked his youtube stuff when we signed him. Good scout Padre..
No, not for ten yrs or more, that was the point of the #3 Qb rule, they could keep a guy who had some chance of running the offense if the #1 and #2 Qb went down in the same game as happened with us v the stealers in 09.
FWIW Padre, I heard the GM from the Redskins last night say they kept 3 QBs because of the rule. Now that the 3rd QB can technically be any player, he thinks a lot of teams will look seriously at going with 2 QBs this year.
They could also bring O'Connell back after week 1 so they don't have to guarantee his salary and which would also allow them to keep someone on the roster for the time being who would have less of a chance of getting poached if they decided to waive him later to add to the P.S.
Last year we kept or claimed a lot of young players. Kept our rookie UDFA WRs. Claimed Rose and Geathers off waivers. I still cannot see what they see in Rose. I think this bodes well for our young talent this year. Ireland is not afraid to cut a veteran to keep developmental talent, Tony may not like it as much because he is on more of a hot seat, but I think Ross gave Ireland the mandate to build for the long term, and that Jeff was secure.
I guess Humpty Geathers was good enough to push Oshlansky off of the roster in Dallas Mr C, or someone did, the problem with that cut from a Dolphins pov is it dilutes Merling's trade value as the best 3-4 DE on the market
He got the sack, but earlier seems like I seen him wired to blocks a lot and standing around a lot. He didn't get many snaps though so hard to tell much.
Yeah I think he's a shoe-in for the practice squad if he clears, but with the kind of size/speed/agility he possesses and some of the plays he made in preseason, not sure he'll clear.
come on Padre, where is your sense of risk and adventure, we need a young pass rusher Padre, this kid has some instincts and size, and the best part is?, his motor, its non stop, and when you have inherent pass rush ability, you can't let'em go, especially when they showed up when the lights came on..
No, they wouldn't and won't, padre. Sparano is coaching for his job. He's not going to allocate a roster spot to a guy who won't play.
