Every draft pick makes the team...If we can wind up with Livas and Spears on the practice Squad, I'am good, I don't think teams will add Spears or livas to their 53's at this point so Irish might know something we don't, especially considering this type of limited offseason.. I think we should all take this into account before we get to upset over Livas and Spears not making the 53..
Close to it Bro, recall all of the people who were like "oh, Sparano will never change" man all I can figure is we are going to see 35 or more passes a game with a 1 back in the backfield formation on most downs, this is going to be fun to watch, good or bad.
There is no way to know that for sure. They are gambling with him and Livas and it may likely come back to bite us in the ***. Color me sick to my stomach at this time.
They cut Fields to keep Kearse, who is the backup NT now. We have 8 DL at the moment, so expect a trade for Merling is in the works. As much as I feel bad for Livas and Spears, I'm very happy for Kearse. He must be thrilled right now.
Thought about all of the DL's Mr C, don't be so sure a move is in the offing just yet, we have the personnel to run a 4-3 or 3-4 with equal quality of player in those positions: 4-3: Langford/Starks/Baker Odrick/Merling/Baker Soliai/Starks/Baker Wake/JT Edds/Misi/Trusnik Dansby/Edds Burnett/Spitler 3-4 Langford Soliai Starks Misi/JT Burnett Dansby Wake We are loaded on the Defensive front 7, Nolan must feel like a kid in a candy store as a Defcord
I'm not upset about Livas getting cut. I just thought there was a place for him on the team with the moves they made/didn't make. His biggest asset is his KR/PR ability. We have players on our team that can fulfill those roles--Davone Bess, Nolan Carroll, Clyde Gates, etc. I think he's an interesting prospect to develop at the WR level, but right now, we've got a really solid, young, and talented WR corp. I may be wrong because I haven't been able to see all of the preseason games, but hasn't John Jerry been tried at LT & RT? I think the coaching staff believes he's got some really nice talent, but aren't willing to give up on him. Maybe it's a little like the Paul Soliai situation in hoping the light will come on to add to the talent.
I'm sorry to see Livas go; hopefully we can PS him; it will be a shame if we can't. You can see why, though; Wallace and Moore are guys they've been working on since last year and they're coming along. We would have had to cut one of them for Livas to make it, since Gates seemed to have cemented a spot on the roster in that last game against Dallas. I'm not surprised about Polite nor Will Allen; the writing was on the wall for Polite, and Allen had the look of a done player all preseason, barring a nice play that resulted in a Culver INT and a brutal tackle before that. The one move I'm pissed about is Spitler over Spears. That one does NOT have the feel of a merit-driven move at all.
Jerry tried LT against Tampa. He sucked and was moved back to RG. Against Dallas, Ray Feinga played there and pass blocked very well. Murtha's toe injury must be enough to keep him out for 6-8 weeks for them to IR him.
IMO, Feinga played it better, based on the 4 preseason games. I think everyone here is aware Kearse is a NT, nothing was said otherwise.
Murtha on IR means he has a legit injury that would cause him to likely miss half the season. They wouldn't hide their best backup OL on IR, just to keep him for next year. When I see the term "redshirt" applied in these cases, it means a developmental player with a phantom injury. That is not Murtha.
Not to me, he is just the latest Shawn Murphy and Donald Thomas. Mid/late round guards we drafted who sounded so great at first, then off into NFL obscurity in a couple of years.
Stupid cutting Livas and Spears. But they often let guys get away that produce elsewhere so why be surprised?
Not really. You're just wishing well upon players you like. There's nothin wrong with that. I refuse to accept that being an NFL fan just means rooting for laundry.
Every team has tough calls and sometimes it's bites you in the *** like woodhead did for the jets etc I'm not going to fault the same guy that has found so many acorns with FA pickups..a few of them pro bowl starters for us.
Something like that, think the same happened with Baker in 09 but I'm not 100% on it. IDK, they have never kept a developmental passrusher on the ps, but I also think philosophically they would do so, so remains to be seen what is up with QS as right now: -Dj Jones -Chisholm -Agnew -Devlin Figure to make the PS, that leaves 3 or 4 slots, maybe Grigsby takes one, who knows.
So the surprises for me: That they didn't make the team: Quinton Spears-flashed enough for me, are ST's really that important? Phillip Livas-ST return stud, guess ST's aren't that important. Larry Johnson-doesn't play ST's. Will Allen-neither does he Lousaka Polite-he did play ST's, but I also thought with Clay being injured, he had a shot to stick again. That they did make the team: John Jerry - figured he was destined to be cut Austin Spitler - what has he done? Jason Trusnik - oh yeah, Mr. Special Teams. They are THAT important. Nolan Carroll - looked lost all preseason Tyron Culver - actually, he took a $500k pay cut, so I can understand it... a little.
so what do: S Gerald Alexander CB Will Allen NT Ronald Fields RB Larry Johnson FB Lousaka Polite T Ray Willis have vs: Trusnik, Bush, Colombo, Moore, Burnett, Mitchell? well, other than the fact that the second group all made the team... Both groups were UFA's signed by Ireland. However, the first group did not have guaranteed bonus money attached to them. Whilst the second group certainly did. I'm not 100% sure of this, as there are two guys that might not fit that description in Fields and Mitchell. Given how late Fields signed, I'd suspect he didn't have any bonus money. I'm also not 100% on Marvin Mitchell, but clearly the trend is to keep the guys you spent the $ on. And cut the guys you didn't. Perhaps I'm making too much of it.
I've wanted this since 1996 at least. Seems like we have almost always ran better, even on 1st down, in that formation, facing a nickel defense.
Carroll was 2nd on the team in tackles behind Edds. I'm guessing many of them must have been on STs because I do not remember near that many. Lots of times there is a big pile on STs tackles, it is hard to see the number and the announcers don't call it right, or call it at all...because they would rather babble about a finger injury from their playing days, right Babe? Or getting fired from Burger King as a kid, right Michael?
He was 5th in the nfl in tackles in the pseason prior to the Dallas game, and no doubt ST tipped the scales in his favor as no Livas probably means Carroll is a Gunner/Dime/Returner for us, like Carr was the ravens last yr.
I guess my sarcasm was missed. Wallace and Moore stayed on the active roster all season, and IMO, Kearse will too. Like many said, he played as good or better than Fields and I think they did not want to risk losing him. The usually always keep a rookie or two at the bottom of the 53 all year to protect from losing them like if they were on the PS. They did it when Garner was a rookie, same as Moore and Wallace. Probably some others, just cannot think of the names at the moment.
The Jags cut DuJuan Harris. Dolphins would be wise to claim him. They are not wise though, so they won't.
Let's hope they come to their senses. You think Harris is similar to Jacquizz Rodgers, being short but deceptive power?
Better than Jacquizz Rodgers IMO. Short but built well, solidly. Has a good height/weight ratio. Has 4.40 speed and can make big plays. A natural at following and using his blockers. He's not a dancer, he cuts, and explodes north-south. He gets really low when he cuts, which helps him explode out of the cut. Low pad level and strength consistently translates to yards after contact. A real mismatch problem in the open field and can catc the ball well. You could see that in the 3rd preseason game when he caught a TD from Gabbert, easily dusted his man coverage, caught the ball in stride, touchdown. Then on the two point conversion he caught a screen and made a nifty cut inside to convert successfully. He would be the best RB on roster outside of Reggie Bush, though eventually Daniel Thomas may polish up enough to be better (he isn't better right now). Also the Bucs unexpectedly cut Daniel Hardy. The Dolphins would be wise to claim him. I don't expect them to though.
This after putting Jennings on the IR? Their #2 Rb goes down, and they still waive Harris, and somehow he is a perfect fit for us?
The Packers and Cardinals are being quite stingy with all their Tight Ends. They both kept all FIVE each of the TEs of theirs that I liked.
