Creating this thread to help keep it simple, as the other one's a little more NFL laden as we wait. I agree with the thought that Allen could be back at a lower price. - sent from my EVO 3D via Tapatalk -
Although I agree with the moves, I'm surprised that they were made Allen made one impression on me in the preseason as a whole, and that is of a done player. And Johnson had that one nice run, but he doesn't bring anything we don't already have on this team; plus, I said it before and I believe it: our third TB isn't on our roster yet.
Hmmm... not sure I agree with those moves. However, I wasn't around those guys every day. If neither catches on with another team, I guess it was the right decision.
He played sudden , he looked pretty quick and he is smart , made impact plays . Carrol has been so utterly tentative that right now hard to see the value of him over Allen unless they feel the knee injury is ongoing or too iffy to bank on?
Why do you cut potential depth at the RB position? I just don't get it. They're counting on REggie Bush for a lot.
i read somewhere that it was a harmstring injury that kept him out the games before, apparently the knee wasn't an issue
Don't know but both moves surprise me a bit. Thomas had a better 4th PS game than LJ, but I thought they'd keep him as insurance for Bush...Hope he is asked to hang around until after Monday night's game... Same with Allen. I know the injuries have slowed him some but who is our 3rd corner now ?? I don't see one...unless, he also is being asked to hang around...don't know, but still surprised...both seem to show they can still play...and it's not like there's a dearth of guys in front of either one...
i still hope tashard choice gets cut by the cowboys and i dont care about another dallas-miami connection
Meh...not impressed...even tho Sapp has had a good camp, we probably saw the real Sapp last year, and that wasn't much...
Hate to see Will Allen go. One of my favorite players, remember watching him in the dome in college. Not totally surprising though.
willallen_25 Thank you to all the phin fans you've been great!!! It's been a gr8 ride.. Much love!! Classy.
I'm on vacation hotel has wireless internet for free which is nice. But daughter wants to go swimming down at the pool. We just got back from the beach where there was no internet even on my Iphone). So yeah, I'm here...
Well that was the stated reason .... and may indeed have been , but a lingering knee concern would be a reason to cut , not a hamstring that healed enough to show what he did the last 2 games imo.
I suppose... Will should have just sold it to him when he got here and made some money on the way out.
The whole Larry Johnson thing made absolutely no sense what so ever. I dont want to hear about a cheap experiment either. Ricky Williams could and should still be a Dolphin. Getting rid of him was worse then R.Brown IMO.
Color me shocked about Will Allen. He looks pretty healthy in the last preseason game, and solid. I don't really get it.
Its about money people. Allen saved 1.5 mill Johnson was bound to be cut. He saved 1 mill when there are plenty of backs on the cheap now. What were the chances that Allen actually made it through the season?
You guys are killing me. Allen had a good five playes against the Cowboys #2s. Seeing he actually was healthy enough to play in a game. Sapp easily outplayed him and Carroll is probably going through the same kind of stuff Smith went through early last season. Johnson did have a nice run but averaged a yard or two per carry for the rest of the game. When in doubt, go with the younger player.
You have to figure they aren't done with the roster yet. I can't see them going into the season with only 3 RBs. LJ and/or Polite could most likely be back. Getting rid of RW was the right thing to do. He aged right before our eyes last season. He was slow and had lost his power. Ronnie had been a disappointment to this regime from their start. He never lived up to his hype. While he was a perfect back for the WC, it was apparent the WC was dead for us. Brown proved that he couldn't stay healthy and Ireland moved on. I have no qualms about that. I liked R&R, don't get me wrong but what does is say that 31 other teams didn't see Brown as a starting or even a shared RB? We have to wait for a week or 10 days to see what things really look like...but don't grieve over R&R, they served their purpose here and it was time for them to move on...
If it's close, these guys are automatically going with the younger player (e.g. Carroll over Allen). They do it again and again.
What gets me is how badly Sapp played last year...he was awful. The writing was on the wall with Allen, I just don't think that we are much better with Sapp, despite him playing better this PS. LJ, to me, only represented someone we could lean on if a) Bush gets hurt and b) Thomas doesn't develop much after the season starts...I fear Bush's injuries the most...
Well they did save $1.35M with Allen but age and injury caught up to him. He was a guy that was better than what we had for several years until Davis and Smith came along. We really only saved LJ's salary. If he's on the roster Monday night, his contract would then be guaranteed. If he's brought back after that, he's only guaranteed for the weeks he plays with us, so that move wasn't really about money...somehow, I just don't see us keeping only 3 RBs. Same thing with Polite who was scheduled for less than $1.5M, can't remember the exact figure, but he is another who's salary would be guaranteed if on the roster for Monday's game...
Pretty sure I read a tweet earlier where Bush said he wouldn't, as he looks at the trade to Miami as a new opportunity and wants to keep 22.
While I might take Ricky over Johnson thats still not saying much. He is not the same player he once was...
Yes and no IMO. I would say that it is about the money with Johnson. There will be a few LJs available after Monday night. A million bucks is still a million bucks. Ireland is counting.
I have no idea why they cut Johnson. I understand that we need to cut down to 53 but why waste these players time and energy bringing them in for two weeks when you couldn't possibly evaluate them in that time frame????1~!@#$%^&*()_ Things like this piss players off, frustrate the fans and will probably backfire down the road when potential talent no longer answers the phone when call. Just when I start to have faith in the FO again they pull crap like this.
The Assistant to the Traveling Secretary...I think his name is George Costanza. He worked for the NY Yankees before.
I think that Johnson got as many chances to prove himself as anyone else. I mean on a day when Lou Polite gets cut, I don't think one can be surprised that Johnson, who did little other than make one nice run, gets the ax. Yeah, no way he was coming back with Sparano still in place. I only saw RW in the first Ravens preseason game and he stunk, has he done well since?
