10 for 27, no TDs and a long of 6. Not good at all. Every time I see him now, the thing that enters my mind is he goes down so easy.
It wasnt a waste at all. I'm sure Johnson appreciated the tryout for the entire NFL to see. They can resign him or someone else after Monday night and not be tied to a salary for the entire season. It was the right thing to do for both sides. He got to show what he has left. If someone else picks him up, then we did him a favor. If not, he is not good enough to play for us. Either way, we are not locked into paying him for an entire season if he sucks after two weeks. Nobody has been knocking his door down for years since he was the douche of the NFL. Why guarantee his salary when there are now plenty of old running backs available as of three hours and fifteen minutes ago that can be picked up in a week for weekly pay. You may be happy to have that extra money come draft time next year.
The only reason I see the Dolphins keeping Carroll on the roster is that Ross is still trying to get the state Legislature to approve money for upgrades to the stadium. Since Carroll's mother is the Lieutenant Governor, perhaps Ross convinced Ireland to keep Carroll on the roster in hopes he can influence his mother to convince Governor Scott to support the state funding of these stadium upgrades. As far as I can determine, this had to be the only reason to keep Carroll on the 53 man roster. Because he certainly didn't do anything during the pre-season which would merit the Dolphins keeping him on the roster. Will Allen is far superior to Carroll at the cornerback position and as a kick returner, Carroll is merely mediocre at best.
If they are on the roster at the beginning of the year their entire contract for the year is guaranteed.
I think we are putting wAAAAAAAy too much faith in unproven RB's. They should have kept both Johnson and Polite.
AAAAAnd......they will probably still be available when the time comes that we do not have to guarantee the pay for the season. Polite sucked last year. He was rated second to last of all FBs. Johnson was begging for a tryout somewhere. WTF are we talking about? We have depth problems. Hilliard has taken Polites role now. Plenty of depth choices to equal Johnson out there. I don't get the thinking. Not jabbing at you, I just don't see these two cut to be important at all. We don't run traditional FB any more guys
Larry Johnson, or someone equally as good/mediocre, ain't goin no where. we can sign him again at any point.
I wouldn't have a problem with letting him walk you know, if he was actually replaced with somebody as good or better. Lex Hilliard is not really a better option. I'd say Ricky is still a better player than Lex. It must be the special teams thing.
Im not sure why so many people forget about this. As for LJ though, I'm really surprised we cut him. The depth and experience he added, and as a tough runner we really could have used him until DT gets settled. Will allen, I'm surprised about as well. I thought we could really use his experience back there. I feel much better with him back there rather than Sapp or Carroll. I guess they view him staying as a slow down on Carroll's progress.
Probably because it's not that big of a deal. It's not like... I don't know... trying to replace Tony Sparano with Jim Harbaugh. Ricky said that fist pumper was anal at practices... wow that's terrible! Better to just count on completely unproven players at RB than to try to overcome that locker room distraction... I mean Ricky can come back after smoking pot and quitting but you say even a slightly negative thing about fist pumper and it's time to pack your bags? I don't buy it. Plus Ricky apologized almost immediately.
