He'll sign elsewhere and make 5 Pro Bowls as a returner. Meanwhile we will continue to lead the league in fair catches and start from inside our own 20.

Well, another surprise...shows that us fans have no clue as to how the braintrust is really thinking...LJ, W. Allen and now Livas ?? Next will be Clay ??

Patrick Cobbs was released by the Saints, we can just sign him up to catch the ball in the endzone and take a knee, we start at the 20. Punt returns? We have Bess who will catch the ball and get 5 yards every time (no matter how far the punt is). Sweet! This regime doesn't value returners, never has, and I guess with the new KO rules, perhaps it doesn't matter as much anyway. :pity:

With the new rules I wonder if teams will shy away from using a roster spot on a guy that only returns kicks.

Nah, believe it or not the CFL is much much worse, guy you like can play really well and just be gone the next week, sort of tells you not to take this stuff to heart.

Of course it's Gates. Early reports out of camp indicated he was smooth catching the ball. Why showcase it in the preseason? They kept Carroll because he's a good CB.

They're not going to risk Bush on punt returns unless it's a big situation, especially when Daniel Thomas is an unfinished product.

Then why did they try Clifton Smith as a RS early last season?

There were some reports late Saturday afternoon of John Jerry fielding some punts. He may be our new secret weapon.

I think we're giving the Broncos our 2012 2nd rd pick for Tebow and we're going to use him as the return guy.

Then we lose Bush to injury on a return, and Livas sits on the PS doing us no good.

Let us just say, he has the potential to be one. Good size/speed ratio, good kid, hard worker. Showed some flashes last year. Would be a shame to give up on him already.

It is interesting that of all the last two seasons of draft picks, all but one are currently on the roster. The one who is not, Chris McCoy, just got waived by the Steelers.

I really hope he does make the PS as you can see the talent, ditto Spears, but with SNL, his value goes up as the weather turns colder and the ball does not travel as far on kick offs.

Don't see the big deal in Livas livas.......

Take away the one return and I didn't see alot. Damn a strong wind could almost blow him down....

He does have great speed and good hands, would have liked seeing him more at WR.

I wonder if Ireland is going to pick up any real quality OL, RB, TE, or do the usual, pickup of cheap over the hill players who compete for backup position, and throw disappointment once again to those fans who keep hoping for a few more real talent players to be added to the Offense. but me I'm actually getting used to the let down and the positive spin on everything we do in this place ......

Well hopefully The FO or what one poster called ("the Braintrust" lol ), jobs and future rest on their success, so if Ross is a little smarter than a rock he may understand that a change should be in order...........But not very confident that he even has that clue.........

Simple, Mr. "Five yards and I go down"...aka Davone Bess...

In lieu of a KR, we are just going to put a anyone back there to catch the ball and down it (that's why we heard John Jerry was returning KOs), just take it to the 20 yrd line and live with that.

Bingo. The new kick-off rule makes it very difficult to keep a return specialist. Big-play punt opportunities dependent on the punter out-kicking his coverage, which shouldn't occur during the regular season as most teams use directional punters. This makes Bess ideal for most situations while Bush could be used if it's game-changing opportunity.
