Great point Padre. He was introduced to fans, the Jacksonville Chamber of Commerce today right after lunch. Immediately after, they told him he was cut. Cold blooded indeed.
Not a smart move. Gabbert probably needs another year holding a clipboard before he even hopes of starting. As for making a move for him, I'd go for it. Maybe not start him right away, but if Henne starts to falter, we have some stability behind him.
It would not bother me if the Jags get Luck. But, after all these years with arguably an all time top 5 QB in Peyton Manning, if he misses an appreciable amount of the season, the Colts could end up with the worst record. From the perspective of fairness and justice in the world, the Colts do NOT deserve Luck!
Does it offend you that Garrard has been a better player than both Henne or Moore to this point in their respective careers? If you don't want the information, then don't read it. But I'm staying right here, thank you.
I don't know for sure but it seems like there is a personal issue between the Jag's org and this guy simply based on the fact that they could have simply benched him for a while or even made him their #2 guy until he got the bugs worked out of his game. As for us - I think we should pass on him. He's s solid QB and will want an equal amount of solid cash, also it's too late in the pre-season for him to learn the new offense and really be effective at it (IMHO). Why couldn't this have happened last month!@#$%^&*(!!! Here's the full story from Yahoo. . . http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/blog/sh...id-Garrard-just-days-before-se?urn=nfl-wp6547
To be honest Henne is the better quarterback based on how the two play the game when it's close. Henne's passer rating when the team is aggressive and behind by like 1-7 (arguably the toughest time to come back) is far higher than Garrard's numbers which are heavily skewed by blowouts and numbers he put up when the team was way down. Garrard also loses the ball a ridiculous number of times on fumbles. I hope Henne learns to avoid big hits when running with the ball this year. Garrard has given up close to to 10-15 fumbles a year just on scrambles which is just as bad as an interception. As a backup he would be great to have, easily the best one in the league. As far as a team signing him today I would take a wild guess and say San Francisco signs him and jettisons Alex Smith. Alex Smith would be the guy we sign down the line to be Henne's backup for a few years.
Where are you getting these numbers from Padre? According to NFL.com 25 INTs and 12 lost fumbled. That's 37. And 46 total TDs. While Henne 28 total TDs and 35 total TOs
He's probably counting fumbles as lost fumbles (which is wrong), because Garrard has 25 INTs and 25 fumbles the past two years. I will say though, Garrard gets sacked a hell of a lot.
He gets sacked a helluva lot for a few reasons. He does hold the ball for awhile in there. His offensive line is atrocious. And most teams send a lot of run blitzes there way because they are a threat to run on any down. So he's see quite a bit of pressure. I think Garrard is a guy that can get you to the playoffs, maybe even win a few games in there. However, he's a Trent Dilfer, Brad Johnson type. He needs to be surrounded with exceptional talent. We have above average talent, but not exceptional. He'd be an upgrade over Henne 4 weeks ago, but not now. It doesn't make sense. He's still a solid backup option though. The fact Matt Moore has 5 weeks on him, shouldn't be the end all.
Yessir, led the league both yrs in fumbles, if one wishes to point to the ones he then recovered, 5 on 25 is not exactly a strong argument Stitches. http://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/G/GarrDa00.htm
I remember when Garrard was promoted to the starting QB and Leftwich was released, there were many fans who thought this was a stupid move by the Jaguars. Obviously the Jag's were correct at the time, because Leftwich showed once he was released that he was not a very good QB anymore. If the Jaguars are willing to cut Garrard and go into the season with a journeyman starter at QB and a rookie as his backup, I have to think that Garrard is done and isn't a QB who would be an improvement over Moore as the Dolphins second team QB. Del Rio has basically been told by the owner that if the team doesn't make the playoffs, he will be gone after the season. I just don't see him making this move if he didn't feel that Garrard was done as a starter in the NFL. I am sure some team will pick him up, but it would not surprise me if he is out of the league and retired before the end of this season.
It is not a matter of whether he recovered them or not, it is whether the offense recovered them or not. It is not a turnover just because he doesn't recover it. Your remark about 50 turnovers was just wrong, not a big deal.
I agree. I really doubt Del Rio was pleading for Garrard to be retained and was cut totally against his wishes. Del Rio had to have some input in this move and IMO been at least neutral on it. The last time Luke McCown played any appreciable amount of regular season snaps, 2007, he did fairly well...just saying... McCown also has been a preseason QB stud the past 5 seasons. His QB ratings from 2007-2011 have been: 113.2, 89.2, 86.6, 99.2, 125.5 Granted it was preseason, but still, doing well in preseason does give one hope for the regular season, just like us with Henne.
Well that's fine, if one wishes to say "45 turnovers in the last 2 yrs" it's cool, either way it is a really high number.
