...or he is just preparing for our fans screaming? Not to offend anybody or talk down to anybody, but there are ALOT of uneducated fans who on 3d down stand up and start chanting loud as **** "OF-FENSE" and so on. When you tell them to shut up, they give you a confused look. So if it's a packed house and it's rocking, it will be rocking when we are on offense as well, I promise you.

Its also equally for half our ****** fanbase that doesnt understand how to use their volume for a home field advantage... as in being quiet when we're on offense and screaming on defense. Do you realize how many stupid Fin fans cheer on 3rd or 4th down??? As if they think they're supposed to "cheer the team on" or something... :pity:

When you go 1-7 at home (and I think he's 1-9 in his last 10 dating back to 2009) and to the common fan, there's not been much perceptible change (or, in my opinion, not enough of the right changes made) made...well, this is what it comes to, yes. I know that's a bit of a cold, hard truth to some, but until the Dolphins start winning, well...what do you expect?

For the last 20 years, they have sucked the life out of the fanbase. Over the last ten years it has become nearly unbearable. If they want to sell tickets they have to produce on the field. Noone has the stomach for another 1-7 home record. They need to come out of the gate fast.

FML!!! Hate to say it but Miami is full of ppl who lived there entire lives in other parts of the country so when they play the dolphins they go. Also talked to fans of other teams in Miami and a lot of them seem to plan there vacations around the game.

Sounds like Tony is blaming the fans.....why Tony ? Oh maybe it has to do with your crappy home record you Jersey Shore reject.

What is wrong with some of you ? Don't you get it ? The Dolphins have finally LOST a large proportion of their fanbase, because THE DOLPHINS HAVE PLAYED CRAPPY BALL AT HOME ! Don't blame that on the fans Tony, blame that ON YOURSELF ! Win some damn home games Tony and the fans will be back, but until then don't blame the fans for not showing up to your boring Fist Pump for Field Goal Festivals.

he hasn't blamed the fans at all, not once..This is what he said......"No, never before,'' Sparano said when asked if he'd ever practiced with noise before a home game. "One of the reasons we do it here is we are in South Florida and the New England teams and New York teams, there's a a lot of fans out here.

"They have a good fan base themselves. Somehow they make their way into our stadium."

    I believe you quoted Dafins..

He has handled this poor homefield advantage very well, I actually respect the hell out of him for going there and bringing some things to the forefront, and especially how he's gone about doing it...He has come up with the way to motivate his players in the worst environment from a players perspective in the NFL, which is something that he had to do..

''Were gonna win, with, or without you''..

    lol, it's fu%$in perfect..

show me proof. 1 example of him showing disrespect to this fanbase?.

    Truth hurts huh?

The actual truth here is the play of his teams have disrespected the fanbase. How many games did a Tony Sparano led team win last season?

Newsflash Tony! Season tickets were skyhigh until you lost them by losing at home so many times. You have a lot to prove for them to come back, and you only have one more shot at it.

I would take it a step further and hire a proffessional heckler. Just give him the mike and add deafening sporadic sounds to try and psyche out your team.

Come on OZ, 3 and a half years ago we were an overtime away of being 0 and 16..basically they put up an 8 and 8 season and a 7 and 9 season while they were rebuilding the whole freakin team..I don't count their first year because they went 11 and 5 with a division title with basically the same team that was lucky to go 1 and 15..

I agree with what Sparano has said, I think the approach is spot on, and I think the emotion behind it, is real..I feel the same way he does.

It's hard for me to get onboard because you make it personal. You hurl insults. Why is that necessary? Why do we have to go there?

And where did he blame the fans? How did you extrapolate that from the article?

I think there are irrational fans on both sides of the fence.

I like Sparano as a person but he has a lot to prove as a Head Coach. It is his team and by not winning more, the fans are going to be sceptical. His approach is not about wrong or right. He wins the fans will show up. He loses, like his team did last season, and the ticket sales will drop.

Has nothing to do with the fanbase. It's like that in almost every single venue....

I feel like this is gonna be a good season. So much negativity building up that this team just might be in shock the world mode all season.

Henne playing for his career. Sparano Coaching for his. Marshall erasing demons and proving hes worth his contract. Reggie Bush wants to be a real player and not just a gimmick. This defense wants to be a top five defense. VD and SS want to be the best CB duo in the league. Dansby wants to be an ALL Pro. Wake wants a big fat contract. Odricks back, Starks is still starks.

Say im wearing aqua and orange glasses all you want, im pumped to see this team.

Wish i lived in south florida so i could get some of these tickets.

Where did you come up with that? If you insist on ranting, which is totally your right, and even I rant from time to time, better to use some accuracy. Tony is a native of New Haven Connecticut. So it would be ok to call him Birthplace of GW Bush reject, but Jersey Shore reject comes across as ignorant.
BTW, I really like your self portrait avatar. Is that a recent photo?

sorry, just means that the fanbase is filled with fairweather fans. most cities are. but I can remember growing up and going to multiple Saints games. they didn't have a winning season for 20 years, but they still sold out every game and loud as hell at every game.

I'm usually a firm believer in the old saying that if you start listening to your fans, you're going to wind up sitting next to them (obviously excluding me; they really need to listen to me a lot more). In this case, however, the organization is walking a pretty thin line. You have to give your fans something, especially when you don't have the kind of fanbase Green Bay or Chicago or Kansas City have. Home field advantage is huge in the NFL; in terms of win/loss ratio, it should roughly be the equivalent of a playmaker on either offense or defense or, frankly, both. If you squander your home field advantage (like we've already successfully squandered our September advantage, thanks in part to Ross insisting on prime time event football) then that's a bit like drafting Heath Shuler over Marino - it'll cost you games, and plenty. We can talk all day about how spoiled, unappreciative or crappy our fanbase is ... it is what it is, and at some point, you have to cater to that. And while it's certainly nice that some clever brainiacs on a message board realize that they know a bit more about the game than the average Joe Seasonticketholder, the truth of the matter is that a franchise can do without the lot of us brainiacs. They can't, however, do without the Joes.

    2008 5 wins, 4 losses
    2009 4 wins, 4 losses
    2010 1 win, 7 losses

So DJ 10 wins and 15 losses is Sparano's home record. That is the truth of the matter DJ. Its not the fans fault he is 5 games UNDER at home, its because he didn't put together a team that could win home games.

And I guess you are too young or don't remember that the 2007 team, may have just been about the unluckiest team I have ever seen, because that team was 5 or 6 plays away from being 6-10 or 7-9 as they lost 7 games by 3 or less points. Hell had lucky bounces gone their way, they could have been 8-8. That's why in 2008 when a lot of those bounces DID go their way, along with the QB that fell into their laps, and stayed healthy for one of the 2 seasons he's ever done that (and the whole team stayed freakishly healthy) they won 11 games (along with the easiest schedule).

Trying to blame the fans, and put this on us, is just another slap in the face by Sparano.

WIN SOME DAMN HOME GAMES TONY AND THE FANS WILL BE THERE TO CHEER FOR YOUR TEAM !

The lack of season ticket and single game tickets being sold, just is further proof that a lot of those season tickets holders feel just like I do. I am one of the very few that will come on this board and tell the truth, and stick in the face of the rah-rah's that their little goody-goody world of Dolphin Bliss is just not reality. The perception is this team sucks, that Ross and Sparano are out of touch with the fanbase, don't listen to them, and now in ways are actually at war with them. Not a receipe for success.....

Muck, for me, IT IS PERSONAL. I have lived for years for my Dolphins football, and these guys have just about destroyed my fandom. From Ross to Sparano, they just don't get it, they think we are the enemy. We can be their biggest ally but to come out before the 1st game and give the opposition & their fans comfort is just asinine. NE fans who hear this will now be more motivated than ever to cheer louder, because they now KNOW that Tony is bothered by it, and by proxy Tony is giving those vibes possibly, and I reiterate, POSSIBLY to his team. Its another in the layers of bad karma they are building around this franchise.

Two years ago the Dolphins had 61,000 season tickets. Now its less than 45,000. That says just about everything. Those numbers should be reversed, but this franchise just when should be building momentum, seems to be losing it. That is why the national pundits have all predicted 3 or 4 wins, if you look at us from the outside you don't see much to be excited about. The local fans have not seen enough to excite them to plunk down their $ 125 a game or so. They did that the last two years and have been rewarded by Tony Sparano with 1 win in the last 10. People only can take it for so long until they say, "Prove it me 1st" and the season ticket holders, and the casual fans as well are telling that to the Dolphins.

You know what's funny about this? I live across the river from Detroit. I go to several Lions games a year because they're close, and it's an easy way to get my NFL fix without having to travel far. Funny thing though... as awful as the Lions have been... Ford Field is always packed, and it was always loud. Were the fans as disgruntled as you? Absolutely, did they still come out and support, in a city that's been beaten down by the economic climate worse than probably any other... yup. They did. They weren't happy, they booed during blowouts, they chanted fire millen amongst other things, but when the lions took the field, they cheered, when they scored (as rare as it was) they cheared, they were loud... they still filled the place. We're talkin about the lions here... the team that recently went 0-16... worse than our recent 1-15, the team who had several worse seasons then what we've had recently. So yeah... I do tend to blame the fans a bit on this one. Not much, but I do a bit.

Not to derail the thread too much, but bringing in season ticket sales really isn't an indication that we've "lost the fanbase". Season ticket sales are down dramatically for every single team, not just ours. The economy hits everyone hard, folks have less cash to fork over and are now more than willing to sit at home or not travel to games.

Could you imagine being a season ticket holder that lived in Orlando? Between the cost of gas for driving, or perhaps a hotel for the day, and the cost of tickets, it just financially doesn't make sense.

I watched those games too, and 1st if the Saints sold out, then why did so many of their fans not use their tickets, because I used to see thousands of empty seats in the Superdome. And 2nd a number of the few fans that did go, would wear bags on their heads, what was up with that ? Oh maybe many Saints fans felt like a lot of the Dolphins fans do these days about their team.

think you're way off on that one. comparing dolphins fans living in Miami to Saints fan in New Orleans isn't even worth doing. Sorry, but they DID NOT FILL THE OLD SILVERDOME ! The only reason they may NOW be filling Ford Field is because it is a much smaller stadium. And even at that I remember watching Detroit games on NFL Sunday ticket, and there again were thousands of ticket holders disgused as seats, I could swear to that.

Oh some crack research shows......this was the Lions attendance in 2007, 2008 and 2009....

So ending up 28th, 32nd and 31st in attendance is "packing the place" ? And and average attendance % of 85.1......that is packed ?

By the way, the Dolphins have had in the last 3 years, 90.1% (2010), 89.8% (2009) and 87.1 (2008). The home record in those three years got progressively worse, yet the average capacity attendance rose all three years, and you have people on this board calling our fans fairweather ? And mind you this comes from people that pass judgement of the citizens down here that many of them have NEVER lived here.

Dude I do know, and I did see thousands of empty seats in the Superdome for years. Pick another fight because this is one you won't win. According to attendance figures at ESPN.com the New Orleans Saints were # 10 in attendance percentage in 2001 (behind the Dolphins in actual attendance and also capacity % attendance) and didn't make the top 16 again until 2006 in either category. Meanwhile the Dolphins made the top 10 in total attendance in 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, and 2005.

Fact is many of the old DolFans no longer live here, many for reasons I think if I said it out loud would be very controversial and un-PC. That is also a HUGE factor in why the Dolphins attendance has dropped. Look at this board, and the majority of posters have either never lived here or have moved. When those people moved out, they were filled by people who either don't give two craps about American football or by people who at one time MAY have had (or their parents had) a reason to root for teams outside of So Fla. With the fan unfriendly ways of the Dolphins for many years (Huizenga had a directive that almost NO Dolphins events, outside of games were to be in Dade County) has alienated many potential fan recruits, especially in south Miami-Dade County. Many little kids in my neighborhood here in South Dade, have on Dallas, NE or (whatever team just won the Super Bowl) shirts on. Its less and less you see Dolphin gear being worn. Whose fault is that ? Its not the fans, it comes down to.....WIN SOME DAMN HOME GAMES TONY !

He isnt from Jersey, he is from West Haven in Conn.....what are you busting on Italians?

anyways I like what Tony is doing here, with this and what he said on the 1PM home field advantage issue....he is telling it like it is to Ross, and to the fans.....

I dont know if he thinks there is a good chance he is getting fired this year or at the end but I like it...

Wow, way to go back to the silverdome to make your point. Did I even mention anything prior to 2002? Not at all really. I'm talking about Ford Field. The Silverdome never sold out because it was way too big for the region. To expect 80,000 people to attend a football game in a stadium that is about an hour outside of the metropolitan detroit area is ridiculous. There was never enough population in the region to come close to filling that place. Since 2002, when the Lions moved into Ford field, that place has been packed, yes. Throw all the numbers you want, I've been there. I've seen it with my own eyes. Were there some empty seats up in the nosebleeds, sure, but that's to be expected when theyre that bad. Those lower levels, the 200, and 100, and the club seats, and most of the 300 level were jammed. I've sat in that place numerous times, listened to their fans cheer on their team, even in the 0-16 season, that place still got loud with LIONS fans, not 40% fans of the opposing team like our stadium. Their fans still supported that team. So, carry on about the old silverdome, a stadium built too large for its own uses all you want. Talk about people passing judgement of citizens of an area where one has never lived.
