IMO, he is far better than Spitler in coverage, and every other aspect of being an ILB. He is nowhere near as bad as you are making him out to be.

I saw Edds whiff on a tackle in the backfield in one of the last two games I believe. Just one play, granted. Hard to pass up on a gifted converage linebacker, hopefully it means that they see quite a bit in Spitler and Trusnic. Who knows.

If it were up to me, other than the 4 starters, he is the last LB I'd have cut. Yes, I am remembering who all that includes. The only possible exception to that would be if there is some lingering effects of the ACL that we fans do not know about. If there were, it sure wasn't obvious in his performance on the field.

The other issue is that it didn't have to come down to Edds versus Spitler. They could have kept both. They could have released another player. It will be especially frustrating if they wind up releasing some of these they have picked up (as they did last year - seemed like 10 transactions a week).

They may well have made a good decision on Edds. THe jury is obviously still out. Personally, I think they were wrong. Edds brings some features to the LB position that not many other LB's do. And, given that this has happened to the organization year after year with other FO's and with this FO, then it's very reasonable that fans would be extremely skeptical (especially of a player who performed decently in games).

And, evidently, it's not obvious to the Pats. Will be interesting, however, to see if he sticks and where he is 2 years from now. I really think Edds has "starter" written on him but who knows.

Its moves like this that make me want these two clowns out of Davie. Stupid moves every year by these bums. Its why I have no faith in this team, it was built by those bozo's.

I hate Bill Parcells and all of his minions.

Yeah but these guys evaluation talents haven't exactly been lighting the world on fire, or after 4 full off-seasons you wouldn't have this many questions entering what should be a year the team would be contending strongly for a wild card win in the 1st round.

Defensively they've been pretty good at it.

To me it's largely been QB and OL that they haven't been missing on. You get a QB and suddenly you're a LOT better. I mean, the Bucs went 10-6 last year.

This group got lucky with one in 2008 and we all saw what happened.

The last LB the Patriots signed who was cut from the Dolphins was, Rob Ninkovick. Ireland and Sparano didn't think Ninkovick was good enough to play for the Dolphins. All Ninkovick has done with the Patriots over the last two season is to become a starting LB on a team which went 14-2 last season. Ninkovick also had two interceptions last year when the Patriots played the Dolphins in Miami.

I have no doubt that under Belichick, Edds will become a very effective LB in the NFL. The difference between Belichick and Sparano is Belichick knows how to get the best out of each of his players. Sparano on the other hand, doesn't have a clue.

The Saints were in between though, as they were who signed him off our PS. Then the following summer the Saints cut him and Patriots signed him. Still the point is accurate, in that our coaches chose to waive Ninkovich, rather than Quentin Moses, to the surprise of many of us, then when he cleared waivers, Miami signed him to the PS, leaving him exposed to be poached by the Saints. They were not able to identify the better lb prospect between Ninkovich and Moses, who is currently a street free agent,, just like the could not correctly identify the better prospect between Edds and the rest of the lb reserves, but most especially Spitler, who I did not think deserved to make the the 53 man roster on the initial cutdown to that number.

Have they made mistakes, absolutely. But to insuinate they have been awful is false. Also I don't think there are as many question marks as you say.

Cut them all. There are no excuses at this point, they've had their chance. We can find another starting center. How hard could that be?

Look no farther than St Louis, Atlanta, Detroit, and Atlanta, to see teams that were as bad or have been worse than this team, since 2007 and 3 if not all 4 have surpassed the Dolphins and will have better records than us this year. The Detroit Lions went 0-16 a year AFTER we went 1-15, yet beat us on our HOME FIELD last year, and many people think will legitimately contend for a wildcard this year. Meanwhile here in Davie, we have Sparano and Ireland who if they don't get out to a good start probably will be gone, and we have to start YET AGAIN with another rebuild. Its infuriating ! :tantrum:

Aj wasn't a good 'fit' for this defense to begin with imo. I was hoping he might developed into that player, but obviously the feel he didn't....I mean he got easily out played by a LB we just pick up off waivers. Would I of kept him over spitler? Probably because I think spitler is an awful defensive player....but they obviously like spitler on STs a lot more. That is something your 4th string ILB needs to be able to do....

Dude, come on. You don't know that.

There are a lot of things we improved on this off season- team speed, 10 players returning on defense in year 2 of Nolan's system, an exciting offensive coordinator. I understand that you are down on this organization, but let them play the games. The team may surprise you.

The simple explanation for waiving Edds is that he was way down the depth chart and his development would take longer than it's worth.

    - ILB running situations - Trusnik, Spitler, Mitchell
    - ILB passing situations - Bell
    - Cover TE - Smith
    - Cover Backs - Nickel/dime to get snaps for DBs. Clemens, Jones, Wilson, and Davis can tackle as well as blitz.

Putting Edds on the field would hinder that development of the DBs. Moreover, Burnett offers an example of what Edds development might be as he had the same injury. The lesson learned from Burnett is that he hurt his team as he developed and this type of LB is easily obtained during free agency.

So you are stating that Ireland drafted Edds, knowing that he was not a good fit for the defense to begin with. If this is the case, perhaps that explains why Ireland needs to be replaced as GM of the Dolphins. Also by your own admission, Spitler is an, "awful defensive player", yet he is still a member of the Dolphins. Personally I have had enough over the last four years of players who either don't fit the scheme or are just plain awful. I look forward to the end of this regular season, so Ross can finally make the decision to get rid of Ireland and Sparano and we can finally get a GM and Coach who hopefully know how to bring a winning organization back to Miami.

since this thread is still around, i gotta say i don't like the move of cutting edds. i believe he is a better prospect than spitler, could be taught how to be better on special teams, and still needs a little more time to fully recover from season ending injury last fall. this is a move i just don't understand from the little we got to see of these guys in pre season, looked to me like edds clearly showed more upside, oh well i'm on the couch not in the front office.

To me, Edds is a better player than Ike, Trusnik, and about even with Mitchell, besides the obvious superiority over Spitler. As a long term prospect he was worth keeping more than JT too, but we probably will need the extra pass rush JT hopes to provide. The sad part is Edds will still be playing 8-10 yrs after JT has retired.

And I still say because of their DIVISIONS they have a better chance to improve their records. We have 3 legitimate teams in ours, and based on what I saw today in KC we could be really in trouble in this division if the Jets don't look horrible tonight.

This is the problem with keeping this regime, they are in a WIN NOW desperation mode. That move to cut Edds is based on what they feel they need to do NOW, and are not thinking about what is best based on the future of the organizaion. They are a detriment perhaps to their own future. Its very short sighted and usually costs people their jobs instead of keeping them.

There are a few of us on here who are actually able to see the reality of the situation. I love the Dolphins but I have absolutely no faith in Ireland, or Sparano, to put a playoff caliber team on the field. I lost confidence in these two men last year and I am not willing to support them, just because they happen to work for the Dolphins.

I am upset that after 40 years as a season tickets holder, I no longer have the desire to purchase these tickets because of my lack of faith in the owner and the individuals he has hired to run the organization.
I hate to see the other teams in our division pass the Dolphins by. I have vented my frustration with the Dolphin organization by refusing to purchase season tickets this year. I have advised the organization on the phone and in writing why I no longer can support them with my money.

It is my hope that after this season is finally over and the Dolphins once again fail to make the playoffs. Ross will finally see the light and get rid of Sparano and Ireland. Once this happens and I see that Ross really is interested in bringing a winner to the fans of Miami. I will gladly purchase season tickets again and I will be happy to stop writing negative comments about an organization I have loved and cheered for since 1966.

I think you two might be reading too much into what I said. We are in "trouble" regardless of how the Bills or Jets look today because we have a tough schedule (among other things). That doesn't mean we can't have a good season or make the playoffs, it just means it will be difficult (like always). The season isn't over already or even after Monday regardless of the outcome.

I have stated numerous times on this forum that I would love nothing more than to be totally wrong about this coming season. In fact if the Dolphins win tomorrow and next week against the Texans. I will gladly purchase tickets for the remaining six regular season games. It isn't that I don't want the players to prove me wrong. I would love it. I just don't have any confidence in the individuals I mentioned above and I have decided that it is now up to them to convince me that it is worth my time and money to actually attend games again.

This is the only option I have as a fan. So it is now up to the Dolphins to make me reconsider my decision to not purchase tickets this season. If the Dolphins do make the playoffs this season, I will have no difficulty admitting I was too negative and I will gladly acknowledge that I was wrong about Ireland, Sparano, and Ross. If on the other hand the Dolphins are once again the mediocre team I suspect they will be. I just have to wonder how many of the fans who are predicting success for the Dolphins this season, will finally admit that it is time for Ireland and Sparano to go.

It should be noted that over ten thousand season tickets did not renew their Dolphin tickets this year. The vast majority of them did it for the same reason I did. Because they were sick and tired of supporting an organization which seems happy to settle for being average. We expect more from this Dolphin organization and until they show us that they truly want to be one of the top organizations in the NFL again. I see season ticket sales continuing to drop.
