He had a heckuva night tonight. No doubt about it. Chad Henne has always had this ability. Where he's struggled is the consistency. We've had this thread posted at least one time early in the season the past 2 seasons. But, he played great and looked unbelievably comfortable. Our personnel for short yardage sucks.
Yes it is. He played well, but we left some plays on the field. If we want to compete with the NEs, GBs, Houston's, Phillies, we need to do better on O. Hopefully he can at least maintain this type of performance. Clearly better than last year (pocket mobility, run ability for instance) but not an elite QB.
He does look pretty good. It's obvious we need a short yardage personnel set. I know the interior OL is weak, but yuck.
Alright, let's be FAIR here, ok? With 2:38 left in the game, Chad Henne's numbers are as follows: 28/44, 395 yards, 2 TD's and no INT's...AND he ran for a touchdown on a QB draw. Now. when it was 4th and inches and Daboll called a pass play, THAT was straw that broke the camel's back. Had we run a sweep, a draw and QB sneak and got that TD, it would have been 31-24, but we turned the ball over and Brady (may he die of syphillus) tosses a 99 yard TD pass, making it 38-17. Assume Miami holds New England, gets the ball back and scores another TD, now we're looking at a tie game. Even though we lost this game, Henne did indeed come into his own. Had a great game, put up some great numbers and showed that he's been given the green light to start lighting the field up. The only question I have...can Miami's defense bounce back and not let Houston repeat the Patriots performance.
No offense man, but did you watch this game? The Pats D was in this poor man's face ALL night, imagine what he could have done if had the protection Brady did. To say he wasn't good enough is quite disingenuous.
I have been one of his biggest critics on this forum. I have stated many times that I did not think Henne had what it takes to be a starting NFL QB. I will admit that I was totally impressed by his play tonight. He certainly showed vast improvement over his last two seasons as the Dolphins starting QB. He did everything he could tonight to lead the Dolphins to victory. Unfortunately the defensive players failed to show up for the game.
I would agree. 30/49, 416 yards, 2 passind TD's combined with 7 runs, 59 yards and a TD. Christ.. henne was our leading rusher He played great tonight. That's the Chad Henne I remember from being a Michigan fan.
He had a good game. He can make a strong case for staying with the new head coach who will replace Sparano after this season.
Yeah he had a great game. It looked like the Dolphins circa Marino! Except with less passing Touchdowns. But over 400 passing yards, bad defense and no running game. Funny...Henne plays an amazing game, yet the defense and O-Line sucked and Marshall dropped the big tough catch in the endzone that players like Calvin Johnson and Fitzgerald can make. Basically everyone except Henne, Fasano, Bess and Fields didn't look good. (I know Marshall had a big game in yards, but still, gotta make that tough catch. That's the difference.)
He played real well for sure, but we missed some chances near the GL. He'd have really shined if he was a little crisper down there (or had communication better with Marshall).
that mothergrabber also had 59 yards rushing, i hate that INT at the end, but if he keeps this up, we are playoff bound
Get real. Henne was PLENTY good enough to win the game. Our defense allowed several records to be broken on them. That's all there is to it.
Bull, Henne played great tonight, almost matching Brady with yards and leads our team in rushing. If our D had played well, I have no doubt we would have won.
Yeah if you read further, I said that he got no D. It is in those games that you want a QB to go out and win the game for you. He didn't. I am not placing the loss on Henne, this was a defensive breakdown. But he didn't win us the game. The score is evidence of that. But yes, he had a good game. People are looking at my comment in the wrong light. I am saying that he had a good game and did a good job. I hope he can do more for us in the coming games, because we may need it. At the end of this season, I want us to say "well ok, we are definitely set at QB, lets address a weakness."
Henne looked completely different then from any other time I seen him play. He took control of that game made the changes he saw fit. Hell of a job for Henne tonight, one brightspot from this game.
Henne showed tonight that he can lead a team. His offense played really well all night. He suffered from a few drops (Marshall again) one that would have been a TD. The man played his butt off tonight. Was it perfect, not the offense wasn't perfect. We left a lot of points on the goal line tonight. When big Paul came in to play FB I knew we were in trouble with short yardage plays. One area Henne needs to greatly improve on is that passing on the goal line. He almost threw that one pick because Marshall wanted the ball on the outside shoulder and Henne tried to lead him inside, outside shoulder would have been a TD. What we have to look forward to is the fact this is probably the best team that we are going to play this year. We get some kinks worked out and I think we can contend and beat anybody in the NFL. This is still going to be a good season.
I'm not so sure people are looking at your comment in the wrong light. You said Henne wasn't good enough, and that's just ridiculous imo.
He played well enough to win with support. He did not get that support, and did not win us the game on his own, in the way a truly elite QB can do from time to time. He took a big step, a huge step, I am happy for him, he has more to go and I hope he does.
Honestly, I have no idea how to respond to this, the offensive line was crap and the defense was worse but Henne didn't do enough, someone help here.
Imagine how good this offense would look with the improved Henne and a RB that can consistently run between the tackles.
Henne was great tonight. There were times when it looked like his guards were matadors, yet he gets 475 yards rushing and passing with 3 tds, and no turn overs when it mattered. He played great. Sent from my SGH-T959V using Tapatalk
He was good. I'd still like to be able to call a fade route without him throwing it 10 yards over the receiver's head. But it was a really encouraging game for him, nonetheless.
I suppose being a pessimist is easy, and playing devil's advocate is easy, but the Pats D wasn't great last year and they gave up plenty of yards and points to start this one too. I'll wait, because I remember this thread about how we should all eat crow from a prior year.
Henne was a 1/2 yard shy of getting his first NFL game with 3 passing TDs. I guess he'll settle for 3 total TDs, since he ran one in. FUN FACT: 4 QBs threw for 400 or more yards this week. 3 of them lost. Only Tom Brady won. (Cam Newton, Drew Brees, Chad Henne all lost)
Thought Marshall got owned in the end zone. It appeared Henne thought Marshall would get inside position on almost interception, but Marshall got stopped in his tracks. Next play Henne may have been a little off target but Marshall could have caught that one as well. Both could have been sharper on that play. The throw to Hartline on 4th at 1/2 yard line was a bad call and match up. Miami is going to need to work on play calling around goal line. Some play-action hitting TE or fake to Bush and then hit him on an out or something...anything other than the plays called tonight around the goal line.
Really. You're going to go there. 416 yds. passing and another 59 rushing, 2 TDs and a late pick. If you're going to compete with the NEs, GBs, Houston's, Phillies, you better damn sure bring some defense. The passrush was nonexistent and the coverage showed it.
He was great!! He played well on every level. Take away Welkers 99yrd rec and Henne had more yrds than Brady. Sucks we lost but I'm completely happy with Henne tonight!!
With support?!?! He put up nearly 475 yards of offence on his own. If the defence didn't take a dump in the middle of the field we win that game easily. To win that game on his own he would have needed to throw for 600 yards. You do realise Brady just had one the best games ever, right? Not even Marino in his prime would have won that game. Edit: correct yardage
