Got back from the movie theater a few hours ago after taking in a Sunday Matinee ... Great, great film. Easily the best of the recent Marvel films, this one is a homerun. There was enough of the comic-book geek stuff to keep me happy, but it also wasn't like you had to read every one of the Iron Man comics, either. Good stuff, Favreau really did wonders with this one.

A very good film. Downey's got the role down to a T.

Downey Jr.: So how do I play this Tony Stark character?

    Favreau: Be yourself

Loved the little clip after the end credits. It's a shame everyone else left in the theater.

I agree. She looked almost 10 years younger.

#1 the movie is freaking awesome. I read comic books and honestly Ironman is one of my least favorite. I just never liked the character. Still, the movie is awesome.

#2 about 3 minutes ago I went on youtube and saw the scene after the credits. I still have chills running up and down my spine. That is too awesome.

I am actually proud of Marvel right now. I know it is silly. It is just the company has taken it on their own to make movies that actually represent their vision for the characters instead of some other guys like Elektra.

I didn't mind the first one. I'm just skeptical because I'm not sure where they are trying to go with the character. Is the new one picking up where the first one left off or is it just ignoring the first one?

It is going to sort of pick up where the first one left off in that Banner is already the Hulk and is on the run in South America (this is what I read, forgive me if the details have changed since then) but the actors are different as is the director, and it's going to be a new direction in the sense that the focus will be on action rather than introspection.

They are completely discounting the first one like it never existed.

Actually, the director has said that is exactly what he does NOT want to do, out of respect for Ang Lee.

Saw this Saturday with my brother and nephew. Saw it again Tuesday with the fiancee, knew she'd love it too. Easily the best cast to ever be in a comic book movie. Robert Downey Junior, Gwyneth Paltrow, Terrence Howard, and Jeff Bridges, all give great performances, elevating every scene that didn't include CGI to be just as thrilling.

I'm a weird comic book fan, I own like 20 scattered Batman's from the 70's and 80's and a Year One. So I don't really follow them, and never really did. But I still love comic books, love the iconic images of all the heroes that I never read a page of. And I hate when they screw them up in translating them to the screen. When they kill the Arch Nemesis in the first movie, it just ruins it for me. See Batman (1989)

It is really such a relief to finally see Hollywood figure out how to make comic book movies feel like comic book movies. And with the way this movie was setting things up that hint at a larger universe. SHIELD, Fury, etc.. With Marvel producing this themselves they are investing in a story that they hope will become a series, rather than a Hollywood studio caring just about one blockbuster at a time.

You should have read this thread before seeing the movie apparently...

What you missed was Samuel L Jackson as Nick Fury talking to Stark about the Avengers.

No, because he is playing Ultimate Nick Fury, a character that was patterned after Jackson with is express permission.

Is Captain America’s shield in Iron Man? /Film readers say yes, even though no screen-cap has yet been found. But, viewers swear the shield is there on Tony Stark’s work-table when Pepper finds him getting out of the banged up Iron Man suit.

Just saw the film. Loved it. Thought it needed a little more action, but big deal. Samuel L. Fury was great too. It's going to be a loooong wait for Iron Man 2...

Maybe it's just me, but I don't see the shield on that table.

Post of the day right there.

That actually gives me an idea. Ultimate Thor's old hammer was technology-based, before he got the "real" Mjolnir later on. I wonder if Stark Enterprises will build a techno-hammer for Thor at some point in the Thor movie.

I see the star (White) in the blue circle, then red and apprently white stripes in a circle (shield pattern). Clear as a bell to me in that picture. But then again I do have super magnified vision that see's through woman's clothing.
